Upside-down tomatoe planters, work w/ mj?

I love to garden edibles, chiefly cherry tomatoes. Last summer I grew some tomato plants in a 5 gal bucket, but they were suspended in the air, growing downwards/upside down out from the bottom of bucket (intentionally). I'm sure you've seen this kinda thing advertised b4 & it works great. My question is, has anyone tried growing weed like that? Just to satisfy my curiosity. I don't plan on attempting it till cultivating weed is no longer a crime. Just wondered if pot would work the same way? and I thought, that way, indoor growers in cali or canada could possibly maximize their light efficiency. I'm environmentalist and hate to see wasted energy, even if i'm not the one participating

ive seen pics of a grow that did, never did it myself though.

This is a good question...My father in law has one of those toppsy turvey things and I think that I am going to give it a try...Ill give it back to him with some swagger seed in it...Ill tell him I put some kind of killer tomato in there. lol this guy is a idiot...he would believe it lol. No for real though I think that I am going to snagg it and see what would happen.

I grew like this last year. got about a half ounce of of the plant and it tasted like dirt. The sister clone to it that was grown right below it in the ground made nine ounces with the same dirt, light and nutes. The plant never really seemed to be very healthy looking always kinda light green compared to her sisters. I think i have some pics of her ill try to post up later( gotta dig through a couple thousand pics).

very interesting. Thats a pretty conclusive and controlled experiment then. Wonder if certain strains would respond better to growing upside down? If i lived in amsterdam, or even cali maybe, I would breed a plant that did well upside down, calling it "gravity" or something clever. And keep breeding the one that did the best, until I had a stable plant that produced effectively. Thanks again.

im sure some strains would respond better. I think alot of it is that the main root ball is at the wettest part of the pot and the main stem seems to stay a little too wet. Im gonna try a few things to help it this year and I think im going to try one in the top and one in the bottom kinda like a ball of bud.

Yes they work a guy has them going in his trailer and it was very productive so i would say give it a try and let us see how it goes

those things are all over socal on balconies i have seen some pumping out tomatoes so worth a shot why not.

I had six of them last summer, five with tomatoes and one lemmon cucumber. Nothing grew very well but that's probably my fault, I didn't give them a lot of TLC. But here's an important consideration.....they're supposed to be made of UV resistant plastic........NOT! By the end of September the plastic began to shred, three of them broke and dumped soil all over my pristine river rock landscaping after a heavy rainstorm in early October. Outdoors they won't last more than one season.

i am currently doing this and am thinking about starting a journal about it. it just got into the upside down planter. this is only day 2 of its life. i started it upside down early.

interesting, are you gonna make a grow journal or just update it here? I am interested in how it goes for you.

could someone help me understand the benafits of growing upside down? why would it help, the only differnce i see is gravity, right? so what, less resistance on it to grow??

that and the plant doesnt need to work as hard to get nutes and that to the plant since it doesnt have to pump them upward.....supposedly. lol

naw its to save room and for people that dont have a yard to grow in thats all

Unless you are going to put the light at the bottom i dont think it will be effiecient. Those planters are great for people who only have a balcony to grow on. Ive seen alot of people try growin tomatoes out of them & it is hard to grow 30lbs tomatoes in the damn ground. They advertise to grow 30lbs upside down but the plants are stretching upwards towards the light. I live in the mountains with the redneck folk who couldve easily put them in ground but tried these out of curiousity. Not worth tryin in my opion but each his own.

Just like people say you have to hang mj upside down so the thc runs into the buds which is not true. When there done there done Hangin upside down is just a convient way to get the curing process started.

thats the theory, you missed part of what i said when you quoted me though-the *supposedly* part meant i was skeptical and think its probally bs. lol.
