The longer you hold in the smoke the higher you get???

idk it always upsets me seeing someone not hold their hit in, seems wastefull. i think maybe the ones that say holding it in has no better effect are the wimps that cant hold it in. haaa. i caught myself not holding it in the other day and i was wondering why it was taking me 1 and 1/2 more puffs to get high.

hehe, I remember seeing on a smoke resin or not thread someone said:

"There are two types of stoners. The kind who smoke resin and the kind who don't."

I think the same applies here. If you are the kind of person to hold your hit in till its ghosted then I bet you smoke resin too, but if you're one of the people who think that resin is the bad shit and just throw it out I bet that you only hold your hit for the first few seconds because according to some people it only takes the first few seconds to absorb all the THC in the smoke then after that your just holding in the bad shit lol.

Personally I love to smoke resin from my little hash pipe and since I always smoke dank out of it the resin is pretty potent, it tastes good, gets you a different high too. Especially putting a drop on top of a bowl in the bong, Hell yea bongsmilie

i hate resin and end up with these big balls of resin when i scrape my pipes. and the resin usually just gets thrown away cause i would rather have the taste of green. but i do save the resin for if i ever run out of green, but thankfully i never run out. lol

I hold it in, but I no longer smoke resin, I did as a kid when I was out of bud, it gets you high, but imo taste like shit looks like shit, and now I prefer to smoke something that doesn't look like it's be processed by someone else

not gonna lie, i feel much higher holding it in a long time, im willing to try the shorter hold, but if it ain't that good ill take the risk

The killing brain cells thing is now debatable.
And it's been proven that the extra amount of THC ingested by holding in smoke is negligible compared to the extra damage its doing to your lungs.
In other words, the pros don't out weight the cons of holding it in.
I hold it for like two, three seconds tops but you can smoke weed like a cigarette and still get ripped

The present study examined the effects of systematic manipulation of breathhold duration (0 and 20 s) on the physiological and subjective response to active (M; 2.3% delta-9-THC) and placebo (P; 0.0% delta-9-THC) marijuana in a group of ten regular marijuana smokers. During the eight-session experiment, subjects were exposed twice to each of four experimental conditions (P0, P20, M0, M20), scheduled according to a randomized block design. A controlled smoking procedure was used in which the number of puffs and puff volume were held constant. Expired-air carbon monoxide (CO) levels were used to monitor smoke intake. Breathhold duration affected CO absorption; significantly more CO was absorbed from both P and M smoke after 20 s of breathholding (mean CO boost=6.9 ppm) than after no breathholding (mean=4.4 ppm). Heart rate was minimally affected by the breathhold manipulation. Effects of marijuana on mood were not consistently affected by breathhold duration. The results confirm previous findings that prolonged breathholding does not substantially enhance the effects of inhaled marijuana smoke.
CLIFFNOTES: They prove that simply inhaling the smoke will get you just as much THC as if you held it. Holding it in actually causes you to absorb more C0 than anything.

I would say no longer then 5 seconds, After that your just killing more brain cells.
Misinformation here, neither THC nor the other parts of the herb kill brain cells. You may kill brain cells if using a butane lighter or if you hold your breath 'til you pass out but that would be from oxygen deprivation not trees.

I agree that holding the hit in for as long as you can is the way to go. When I first started smoking I didn't think that it mattered, then later I researched it thoroughly and found out that it's best to hold it in until it makes you cough.. as this opens some kind of small ports in the lungs that absorb more thc. I first heard this from a dude I used to know who was a respiratory therapist at the local hospital... who also happened to be a mega stoner
Capilllaries are opened more when you cough so they absorb more, either smoke or thc so even if its a tiny amount you get it. The same for original question goes. If there is any amount of thc still in it I want it

I think got 6 pack abs from forcing the smoke to stay down as long as possible for years.
Now I have a nice layer of chub covering it though.
Now when I smoke I inhale and exhale very quickly because there is no weed famine
and I do not get all red eyed or sore lungs and I still get as high as I need.
When I was a little baby we would blow more expensive and addictive substances into a bread bag for a second round. Thank god I do not have to live like that any more. But it works

I've been holding it in for 5 secs each toke for as long as I can remember, I do it without even noticing. I will try to hold it in for 2-3 secs and see how it goes. But one of my boys holds it for 2 secs max and I am always higher then him, so I dunno.

According to studies (I don't know where they were done exactly) THC is only in the smoke for like 2-5 seconds. But I have held in hits longer than that, then blown them in my dogs face (he loves to smoke, he licks the smoke from your face) and he has still gotten high. So I think there HAS to be THC left. And if you think about it, unless you take a few extra breaths with each hit, you aren't even moving the smoke around enough for the entire surface area of it to touch your lungs. So if it all doesn't touch your lungs, it won't even all be attempted to be absorbed let alone fully absorbed.

Not sure why I thought this but I thought the act of coughing but not letting any air escape would force smoke into your lungs. No facts to back it up just what I thought

i bet 10 google ranks that the study doesn't exist and you are talking out of your ass.

This study is actually more along the lines of what I said...
http://www.drugscience.org/Petition/C2D.html
""A study by Azorlosa's team in 1995 addressed the effects of puff volume and breathhold duration on plasma levels. Changes in puff volume produced significant dose-related changes in plasma, carbon monoxide, and subjective effects whereas changes in breathhold duration changed plasma levels but neither carbon monoxide nor subjective effects. (50) The increases in plasma THC levels from breathholding are not statistically significant except at the lowest and highest doses."

"Thus, the plasma THC data suggest that the stereotypic behavior of marijuana smoking is useful for maximizing absorption; however, our study suggests there are diminishing returns with longer breathhold durations."(51)

"As Tashkin determined in 1991, longer breathhold durations increase exposure to tar and carbon monoxide. The diminishing returns Azorlosa has established provides a basis for persuading marijuana smokers to alter their smoking patterns to reduce the harmfulness produced by prolonged breathhold durations. This is additional evidence that the harmful effects of the tars and carbon monoxide can be reduced through use of greater filtration and change in smoking techniques. ""

I didn't find a study actually saying that it's not good to hold it in for long, but it is common knowledge (for some reason every does think that) and if you Google search, most of what you find says exactly what I said before.

I think people read these studies and believe it's not worth the tar and carbon monoxide vs THC, since there is less and less and it comes in your bloodstream slower and slower as your puff of smoke runs out of THC.

ok people, lets think about this a second... ... ... when u drink water from a piblic water source do u spit some of it back out cause u dont want the "bad shit" like fecal matter? and the answer is no, do you know why you dont spit any out? cause it doesnt mater how mouch u drink u still get the same ratio of good shit to bad shit no matter how much you drink. to say the longer you hold your hit in the more bad shit u get is ludacrsis. how does your body say " ok for the first 5 seconds im only going to absorb the thc but if he holds it any longer im gonna teach him and take in all the tar and other shit thats in it oh yeah ill teach him"... listen to yourself! the make up of thc to other inredients is the same throughout the smoke your lungs will take it all in no matter what you do unless u filter it b4 it inters your body. In short, hold that shit in and stop wastin smoke you ass, i paid good money for it!!!

I've also read that after x amount of seconds you've absorbed all you're going to absorb.

But practical experience tells me different
