The longer you hold in the smoke the higher you get???

I don't hold in at all, inhale, exhale immediately. I always thought the longer you keep that smoke in the more carcinogens you are allowing to collect in your lungs. still get plenty baked. though... vaporizing or dabbing is the way to go. much safer since you aren't smoking as much plant matter

longer you hold your breath, the more likely you will encounter cancer of the lungs. some people genetically are predisposed to this behavior, as such they are more likely to get cancer, luckily cannabis stops tumors from forming.

I don't know that that is true. Smoke in the lungs is smoke in the lungs. Whether you take four hits and let them out within five seconds, or take two hits and hold for ten seconds, your amount of smoke exposure should be the same. Plus you aren't using as much weed by holding it in longer

i'm talking about duration of how long you hold your hit in. if you hold your breath for 10 sec every hit, then you are absorbing likely more thc and other byproducts that would have been exhaled had you held the hit in for only 3 seconds. its a behavior that increases the likelyhood for lung cancer for smokers of cigarettes in studies, and since cannabis has the effect of blocking tumors from spreading they stay in the lungs and usually don't progress.

OH FFS! I take a giant hit from a pipe, holding the flame just far enough away to melt the THC without burning it off, before I shove the flame into the bowl and smoke the rest. I breathe in like it's my last breath before exiting a sunken submarine 200' below the surface. While I'm holding it, I punch myself in the genitalia a few times (try it, you'll see why). Then I blow the smoke into a paper bag, then suck it back down and repeat 2 more times to make sure I didn't miss anything. Works like a champ. Either you get cancer or you don't. Don;t fuck up your enjoyment of the weed by trying to figure out how long to hold it in vs your health. If you're that worried about it, don't smoke weed. A meteorite could fall on your head tomorrow.

This study is actually more along the lines of what I said...
http://www.drugscience.org/Petition/C2D.html
""A study by Azorlosa's team in 1995 addressed the effects of puff volume and breathhold duration on plasma levels. Changes in puff volume produced significant dose-related changes in plasma, carbon monoxide, and subjective effects whereas changes in breathhold duration changed plasma levels but neither carbon monoxide nor subjective effects. (50) The increases in plasma THC levels from breathholding are not statistically significant except at the lowest and highest doses."

"Thus, the plasma THC data suggest that the stereotypic behavior of marijuana smoking is useful for maximizing absorption; however, our study suggests there are diminishing returns with longer breathhold durations."(51)

"As Tashkin determined in 1991, longer breathhold durations increase exposure to tar and carbon monoxide. The diminishing returns Azorlosa has established provides a basis for persuading marijuana smokers to alter their smoking patterns to reduce the harmfulness produced by prolonged breathhold durations. This is additional evidence that the harmful effects of the tars and carbon monoxide can be reduced through use of greater filtration and change in smoking techniques. ""

I didn't find a study actually saying that it's not good to hold it in for long, but it is common knowledge (for some reason every does think that) and if you Google search, most of what you find says exactly what I said before.

I think people read these studies and believe it's not worth the tar and carbon monoxide vs THC, since there is less and less and it comes in your bloodstream slower and slower as your puff of smoke runs out of THC.
Everyone READ THIS POST^^^^^ There have been studies done. And you can still absorb more THC after 10 or whatever seconds. Hold in your hits to get higher :D
