The big LED question...

Another thing to realize about LEDs is that the leading LED manufacturer is moving away from COBs and powerful chips, and they are focusing their efforts on light bulbs for your house and small chips, there's no manufacturer that has the skill and desire to make horticultural based chips, these LEDs are high bay street lights, basically they are where HPS started back in the 1980's.
No mate budmaster a uk based company use like 12 little osram cobs to get a better spec per lense

Bridgelux is el cheapo for LEDs, you want cree to be doing the R&D they are the big fish in the LED pond.
maybe cree sees that their is no future in horticultural LEDs. bridgelux led are cheap and inefficient but will continue to be used in cheap chinese grow lights because LEDS still have that "star wars appeal". the price of these lights is getting low enough on EBAY to be attractive to those who don't do their research.

Doesn't bridgelux make epistar and epiled's ? They are pretty much the worst quality LED on the market but like you said, people want those mars hydros and viparspecta lights for some reason...

I have a nice LED setup 2x area 51 RW150, and 1x home made CXA2590 x 4 with 660 + 680 + 730 diodes (all bridgelux) , still can't compete with my 600w hps cause the coverage sucks and the lack of intensity.
If your building it correctly you can cover whatever space you want.

No they dont. China suppliers like to lie alot to gain customers.
Completely different company.

like lumens PPFD or PPF are biased measurements. one photon at 400nm has 1.75 times the energy as a photon at 700nm so a light that produces a lot of red light is going to have a higher photon count than a light that produces blue light if the radiant energy is the same.tri band LEDs (450,630,660 nm) produce a high PPF rating but are not great for growing plants. spectrum and radiant power are the best way to compare plant lights and the absorption spectrum also needs to be considered
Par watts can be compared to any light as at Rahz stated.

There is no point in arguing with people who refuse to learn the basics of photosynthesis.
HPS work fine, Blurple work fine as well, but COB are the new kids and they are here and going no where.
I suggest you checout Greene Genes Garden or Gromau5 on youtube.
Evidence enough is there.
