The big LED question...

Hello all!
So I've been really thinking about switching over to LED's. My plan is to switch to 2 600 watt LED for flowering for 6-8 plants.
Anyone have experience with a complete run with LED lighting? Does the output still create buds to their full potential?

no mars is not better

the best led set ups are normally built with the grow being used in mind

2 options are 100w to 300 cob type chips running at 70% of max or less lots of people running 100 to 150w rated chips @ 50w each but you`ll need 12 to make up 600w`s

option 2 is use big chips and super fans and over drive them

Like I`m making an smd unit based around a 1000w chip the guys I got it off had a 1500w chip

so far I`d say using 900w to 1200w with one chip it looks like it`ll kill a 1000w hps on super, obviously you wanna her it`ll kill 2 x 1000w hps`s but I`ve not finished it yet

the 600/700w 3 cob chip unit I made is making a great side light during the winter, its matching a 600-super hps and I slung that together on a budget it might be beating a hps, all I know is when you unplug it you notice a lot of light is gone and since I put it in had faster flowering and sticker plants

best thing about leds is they stay pretty cool you can normally get away with touching the emitters when they are on

2nd is they are easy to aim as the lights emits 180" or 90" or less so easy to aim where as hps`s are great for flooding a large area but can be tricky to aim.

There`s some good lights out there normally 3000k and 5000k whites are the best unless your looking for a bargain

A lot of people say white leds bud up better but also new coloured leds cost more than whites normally do

So you have to pay more to get more with coloured leds and that`s why few people bother 2000k to 4000k leds kinda match up with hps 5000k is what a lot of people are using as the extra blues seem to give you riper trichomes faster

but being from the uk I find 3000k is better unless its the middle of summer

but I do use a 5000k induction lamp in my finishing area where we finish up plants and normally start the new ones for their 1st 2 weeks of bloom, kinda like it for the 1st 2 weeks (that is if they are tall enough if they are short I start them under the redder lights) and last 2 weeks

Good luck and get a test light before buying the whole lot unless its a mega deal on a well known light that produces

To the members who think led will out grow Hps - BULLSHIT!!!!!
i never compare bulbs to led,,, I often recommend bulbs to new people,, because it is cheaper up front and because bulbs do and will grow awesome weed,, especially compared to CFL and cheapy blurple leds,,,
cobs and bulbs are a win win in my book,, i wish the 2 sides would have a treaty ,, and sit down and smoke a bowl,, maybe in a tee pee,,, " Hey pass me the peace pipe" LOL

I never said leds were crap but many are touting them as better than hps. No one wants a treaty with led growers who have benn claiming this crap for longer than ive been on this site. , how about they actually wait till leds are better than hps and then come back and flood this site with their hype.

They are differently are not better than HPS, but they save enough Elect over time, to do two grows for what it cost to do one with HPS, and HPS couldn't even better than that. I have use HPS myself for years, and they are as good as they get. lol

I pay 17pence (roughly 20 cents) a kilowatt hour, cheaper than this at night. If i run a 600watt for a 12 hour cycle i pay about £1.22 a night (somewhere around a buck fifty US). Ten weeks of that and i pay £85.40 for 500grams or so, over 600 if your good.

Even if i factor in the fans im lucky if a flowered crop cost me £100 in cold hard electricity. Low street price here is £160 (and thats being generous) an Oz and 500grams is close enough to 18 Oz so i sell up and hey presto i have £2880 sitting in my hand of which that £100 pounds represents a few percent of my grow profits.

What you save in electricity and loose to hps in yeild arent worth it, saving electricity is marketing hype at todays weed prices.

Agreed electric and nutes cost means dick I want yield and quality I've seen quality with led but yield is lacking as of now till I see different. Cobs are best bet but again hps is cheap effective and easy to replace
