very interesting... Gwen's cotyledons haven't really opened yet (i helped bump her seed coat off this morning) she still has a bit of membrane from the seed holding them together. But, her first true leaves (baby serrated leaves) are poking out the sides... if you can imagine that.. Liza is still pushing upward, hopefully open up by the end of the day. My hope is to have these girls ready for transplant by tomorrow night. I might have to put a rush on Gwen, I picked up the seed starting tray and her root has made into the catch tray. Once i see her leaves open up she will be going into a pot! Hopefully Liza will catch up a bit by the end of the day so I can transplant both of them first thing tomorrow morning.

Looking good man. Im picking up some jiffy pellets tonight so I can start my next grow this weekend :) How long will they stay in the jiffy pellets? I know you are transplanting your now but I always thought they would get bigger than that before transplant.

Anyway, Good luck!

you have to go by the plant. the roots on mine need a larger place to grow, so i'm transplanting tomorrow. i was hoping to get a little bigger before transplant myself. your plant will tell what it wants just keep an eye on the roots.

getting pots ready today. i picked up a bag of perlite, i plan to put a piece of brown paper shopping bag in the bottom, with a 1/2" perlite on top of it, then a mix of 80% soil to 20% perlite for my growing medium.
i'll take pictures step by step and post later.

I can't wait until GWS gets so gigantic and you need to repot, because I'm gonna get real stoned, and come into this thread and type "Shack, we're gonna need a bigger pot" and laugh until I fall out of my chair. I probably will never even click Submit Reply.

Looks good broskie, keep up the good work.

(dammit!! i typed all this up earlier, and it never eff'ing posted)

As it turns out, Fox Farms Happy Frog soil has a pretty damn good soil-perlite ratio. lol Wish I would have known! I still made good use of the perlite, giving myself about 1/2" in the bottom of the pots (about the height of the drainage holes on the side) so I should have good drainage. Pictures are pretty self explanatory.

Also there are some pictures of the kids! Gwen is doing nicely her taproot is nice and long underneath, and her leaves look healthy, she does have a bit of a gangsta' lean. Liza is standing tall and straight, just hasn't lost her "helmet" (as DaCDaC put it) yet. I looked closely you can see healthy leaves under there waiting to push open, lets hope that happens soon!

I'm going to put off the transplant, for both girls until I see Liza ditch the helmet. That way I can keep the light even. So! they should be repotted by this evening or late afternoon with any luck!

About the first watering in the pots, do I want to go ahead and give the soil a good drench or just water the rooter/seedling?

haha I REFUSE!! to repot Gwen or Liza. Although, as vigorous as Gwen is, I have to. I really don't want to deal with that. I've once heard "rootbound is a state of mind"

Nice job on the transplant dude, did you read seemorebud's CFL book?

GUILTY!! haha i'm using his book as a reference since this is my first soil grow. kids haven't been transplanted. want to keep them moist in that starter tray and wait for Liza to open up. soon though, very soon!

Nice documentary Shack, and very well planned out grow. you are bound to have success.

i seen where you can use the packing peanuts in the bottom to help with drainage. so what i did is lined about 2 inches of packing peanuts in about a 2 gallon pot. then I mixed somewhere around 3 parts miracle grow potting soil with 1 part perlite. she seemed to be loving it so far. shes about 6 weeks old, no sign of sex yet.

and its GREEN too!! :)-

i laughed my ass of when i read this lmao!!
i could possibly see how this could cause problems though.

1- window screen (not just plain aluminum mesh) i would think has been treated with chemicals of some kind.

2- possibly the roots made it to the screen and it caused damage?

but if screen caused damage then everyone's hempy buckets wouldn't work.. hmm.. must have been something else.

i went ahead and placed the seedlings into the pots. whats the point in waiting in the starting tray? Liza will pop her helmet off when she's ready. Lemon Skunk is a VERY slow starter come to find out. Watered each pot with about 1/2 qt of water (roughly half a liter)..

:sigh: I'm growing again. Happy daze are here again :bigjoint:
