life is getting way too expensive

I am not as convinced that "resources running scarce" is the hinge. They just "found" an oilfield in Australia that apparently outdoes Saudi. What was it doing, hiding?? I think the people are being fleeced by a plutarchy that never stopped reaching into the cookie jar. This sort of unchecked inequality (illustrated by the undeclared inflation this thread discusses) is just the sort of trend that eventually sparked revolutions. The plutarchy, this time, has emarkably powerful tools for gathering and processing information; one could argue that they see it coming. i am living in a colossal laboratory of human nature: what will win, instinct or foresight? Shame the stakes are so very high.
I look at it from an efficiency point of view. If they find huge oil deposits in AU the problem is they will spend an incommensurable amount of energy (therefore resources) to ship it worldwide, even if it costs($$) a lot. Money adds value where there is naught. We just pay more but the environment gets the toll.

Down here, prices for everything goes up, but hey, we cannot blame the government, after all everything was privatized decades ago.(water, light, gas, you name it). We only have shit corporations and greedy fucktards to hold responsible, government's taxes are the least to worry.

Hey guys Firstly thanks for reading my rant I really need to get this off my chest.
A bit about myself I'm in my late 20's living with my fiancé in our mortgaged house. Nothing too flash a 300k mortgage a 3 bedroom house in the suburbs. We have been here for 5 years and the last year all our bills have gone up at least 50-100%. We have a combined income of 100k and are really struggling to live.

For example 5 years ago our quarterly elec bill was $200 give or take. Today our bill is $900 a qtr. Water bill was $100-200 5 years ago and our last bill was $477.

I just can't believe how expensive things are these day its almost not affordable to live. Take groceries for instance. Weekly food bill has gone from $100 to now $200.

Thank god I don't have to pay for weed these days.

Anyone else feel like they are getting ripped off?

End of rant

Thanks for reading (if you made it this far lol)
100k and can't pay the bills? damn man! I make 13k a year, 15k if I get overtime. Try living off those numbers lol. I know people in even worse spots than me. Fuck I could probably live like a king in most parts of Africa lol.

Some times you gotta do a little dirt to survive. Play it calm and methodical and you will be alright.

If your electric bill went from 200 to 900, with no other changes in behavior, you have an issue with you're house. No State has seen 450% increases in electricity rates over the last 5 years.

And you may be paying more for food but that has nothing to do with the cost of food.

Inflation has been very low the past 5 years, some things may be more expensive, but most goods aren't.

It will cost less shipping oil from AUS to USA using supertankers than from the Middle East. What such a deposit promises is another decade or so before we play the game of diminishing returns. And with the way energy prices have doubled to tripled over the last few years, the profit margin is ... fulsome.

we have plenty of oil in the US.Only we are to stubborn to capitalize on it

OK, no problem.

Looks like basket of food in AUS is down half a percent from Sept 2012 to Sept 2013. Overall inflation, YOY, is 2.3%.

Too lazy to look for electricity but can all but guarantee that rates aren't up 450%, if they were that economy would be in crisis.

I live outside of one of the most expensive cities in the world (1.2MM median single family home) so I get the sentiment. These homes 25 years ago were 300K and my wife and I have strong income but can't afford to live in the city. But it is what it is and you realize how lucky you are to have what you have and you try to live within your means.

Unlikely since they're Aussie's. The federal reserve isn't doing QE because they want to, they're doing it to prevent deflation.

Why save if interest rates are below inflation? Wouldn't teaching them to adjust as the situation presents itself be better?

A decade old but I doubt things have improved

I sure hope schools are not teaching what I call the inflation formula. Basically it states it is a randomized result of certain economic conditions...and it's bullshit.

Inflation is and always has been hidden taxation.

What's changed is the greed of certain individuals and the enormous amounts of money it takes to satiate their thirst for what seems to be unlimited power. We have never mattered in the greater scheme, we are but fodder to the true players of this game. The money which we all strive to own, even for a short time, is the deadliest drug known and it's worth is predicated on ones own ideals. I've known happy beggars and woeful aristocrats but when they die it is only then that true equality shows it's self.

Same way we are taught that our paper money has any real meaning or any backing other than a fire starter.

Lots of doom and gloom in this thread from folks that live quite comfortable first world lives. If you have internet access and enough power and time to grow weed you are doing just fine in the grand scheme of things. Always good to keep some perspective.

That's a good thing to remember that although you live in the richest country in the history of the world with a greater inequality than ancient Rome. You're doing better than Djbouti because he can't Skype and has internal parasites.

well that was 5 years ago...
chances are minimum wage has gone up

If you said 1 to 2 years id be shocked but 5 years? im not remotely shocked,

you need to learn to learn to cut your spending,

to get back into a comfortable bank account setting.
- use coupons, depending where you live you may not be able to use a million coupons at once but i generally use coupons for random expensive things.
Coffee is usually my main one i think coffee is stupid pricey i dunno maybe its just me, anywho 3$ off coupon makes coffee 3$ woot

-Budget groceries on whats on sale . never buy anything off sale (unless seriously needed )
look at your local flyers and go through, plan your meals accordingly
so say you found 20 chicken breasts for 7.99$ , and oyu found a family pack of steaks for 5.99$
take those than add, a bag of potatoes which is like 2$, and some fresh vegetables (cheaper than you think) you could also buy a frozen vegetable medly.
get home take all chicken out of the package and reput it into ziplock bags according to your family size so if its just the two of you only put 2 chickens or 2 steaksinto ziplock bag and freeze to ensure they are sealed.

Buy BULK GRAINS, Quinoa, couscous, pasta , bulgar, these things stretch fucking far.
quinoa i highly suggest as its amazing in nutritional content. buy a shit ton 1 cup dry is like 4 cups cooked.
add some tomato cucumber salt pepper and lemon juice and you got yourself a quick lunch idea that is so packed in protein you will stay full

-reduce your footprint you dont need lysol wipes, paper towles, ect ect. - buy one or the other.
-make your own laundry detergent- you can find really eco friendly awesome recipes online a huge bucket costs maybe 5$ and lasts a very long time, and still cleans just as well as regular laundry detergents

-buy REAL shampoo and conditioner, i know this sounds odd but go to a real beauty supply place and buy real shampoo and conditioner not walmart brand, i know the inital investment seems steep , but 1l bottles will cost about 10$ , however you only need like 1 pump of shampoo and a dime size of conditioner out of real professional products rather than giant handfuls of the other stuff.

-garden in the summer, create your own veggie patch, much cheaper cuts your food bill on fresh fruit and veg

keep 1 envolope for "entertainment" if you and your fiance have date night , every payday put a little aside for date night or entertainment like going to a bar with friends, (depending on your age whatever) each pay put away 20 bucks or so eventually youll have money to do things or activities together and be creative do a movie night do dinner night whatever but only spend whatever is in that little entertainment fund
and last
dont buy frugal things. you dont need that 2$ coffee at dunkin donuts you dont need the sandwhich at mcdonalds pack your meals carry your coffee ina travel mug ect
keep any change in a change bin and
thats my helpful tips
