l.e.ds vs hps

I was just trying to give you some pointers. You said you are not a good gardener.
I travel a few months every year. While my plants are vegging someone watches my spot. I enjoy only 4
Runs a year . And my strains go 70 days mostly so I would only be able to get 5 runs anyways . And wet trimming takes longer to get the room cleaned out. and I have a small crew . I don't like to over stress about things and be rushing. If my plants need to veg an extra week or two i am not worried about it as long as I get my 2 per, 4 times a year .

first another cycle a year isn't going to break your limit on top of that it's so easy to get your limit upped and again if your growing for profit you might want to think about it
With my veg and moms I am close to limit. If I don't take little time off in between I get burnt out and start slacking . One more run equals shorter veg time means more plants. I run a large size canopy, no walk ways . I figure the extra weight I get from packing the isles each run more than pays for the profit from one more run. Plus I can still get vacation time like a normal person . I work 7 days a week when a run is going. I need some time off

I do appreciate the ideas though . I've thought about a dry room.. But I don't like trimming nugs when they are dry I don't like the way they come out. And you have a short window of time to get them trimmed. Trimming usually takes me at LEAST a week

Wow. I'm late to the party.

@patrickkawi37 is doing it all right. Playing by the rules and running a solid grow from everything I can see/read.
Top of the line led's are better than hps. But they are not exactly cost effective...specially the commercial panel route and/or a commercial setup. Then to expect a full time facility to make DIY for it is asking too much. Would it be better...ya...but will it outweigh the cost of doing it all?...idk. I have been saying it all for a while when the led crew gets too cocky...who has pulled 2lbs off 600w+ led?...no one I know of. Most of the led guys are very smart and correct in general concept...but they cannot relate to the industry of growing. It is work and investment to run a facility of any decent size, and unless one has done it...they never will understand what it takes on a true level. You sound legits man, and have played very nice throughout this thread. Respect.

But in defense of that, I do not agree it is easy to get to 1g/w with hps on my scale. I have come close when running my biggest facility. And I know where my faults were there. But now days on my hobby scale, I can not get over ~800g/1000hps, most 700-750g. Now with led's I have been getting equal results with less wattage. My room is smaller now days too. It's a full built out room, but I only have 7" high to work with. The side by side was decent...not record breaking by any means in yield. But was a very potent grow, over 27%. It was a proof of concept that went well for a one single light situation grow. Many people just hang on that one yield number like it's all led's can ever possibly do. I'm an average grower overall. And at my scale, am doing what I need. But will take any more I can squeeze out it...and am always trying for more. Constructive tips are welcomed.

Hopefully soon people will step up to the plate and show some good and big led grows.

Ok how old are the plants in that video? I'm right now starting week 2 on Monday of flower. I'm using HPS killas and will be posting videos every week.
They're past a month......

Why do you led guys defend your lights the way you do? I could pull five or six pounds w the space that guys using ...... Most of what he's growing would get ate by my trimmer

You really have no clue. What I'm doing right now is killing HPS at half the power and no disco lights.

It's not a matter of defending LEDs, it's a matter of people not really knowing what they're talking about. You have this idea that I'm somehow in love with LEDs, but the reason I sound so defensive is because people are trying to say this bright ass white light is a dim purple light, and can't penetrate... when it's 160lm/W at it's operating point, according to the datasheet! I don't know about the one real posted in that video... That one is NOT a cxb2530 U2 bin driven at 500mA. The efficiency of LED arrays can range between 5-70% so "growing with leds" means absolutely nothing when you realize that. DE HPS is around 42% efficient when fresh. This DIY build, according to specs, is 49% efficient. (at converting electricity to light power).

Whether it's cost effective is not what I've been arguing... but to say an HPS lamp can penetrate better than an equal amount of input power of my DIY cxb2530 is simply false. If you look past a superficial level, you'd see that I usually recommend HPS lamps over LED, even over DIY with cxb. The main reason is because HPS is a great balance between fantastic results, high efficiency, and low startup cost... but you're fooling yourself if you think that HPS lamps are brighter. Realstyles DIY panels are the 2nd or 3rd most efficient lamps on RIU.. (when dimmed, it's between 50-60% efficiency).. and they are totally overkill!! lol. They are more powerful than you think.

Nailed it, IMO. Cheers.
