Cant decide which direction I want to fill out the tent..

Probably Vero29's for the prices. Love cree, but $27 is tough to beat. Might have to scope Verical and see if some CXA'3070s are floating around.

I believe the 3.15 max might have been Version 1??
Maybe you can drop that link specificially?

I just picked up 4k versions of your 3k link^.....not as efficient as an low undriven CXB, but also less cost and rock solid. Evens out in my book.

I am probably going to being running them harder than the efficient point, so wasnt sure the CXB was best option

I was looking at chart and comparing them, most arent in stock, but it shows the max current for them deviating

I am guessing there is more to cob efficiency than just the Lm/W number specified by the MFG?
Otherwise I see the Vero 29 being way more efficient than the CXA3070

They are about the same actually., especially from 1400ma of current and below..the 29 [especially V.2] and CXA3070
Vero's can compete with the CXB's for Higher Current efficiency at less than HALF the cost...thats where Vero's have the best sweet spot imho....

but the CXB3590 trumped everybody with raw numbers...
However, the actual energy umol per joule [3k color temp], may favor the Vero's....but not by much...buts its enough to brag about it :joint:

Vero's are a plus when driven harder....2.1 amps and still 40% efficient. They are easy to cool and run like bulldogs. [ok bad analogy...probably, more like..."fight" like bulldogs, lol...]

I am having so much trouble deciding what to get...

Its been a long road myself...almost 2 years at just LED and learning more everyday...the method I gravitate towards is going for the best efficiency that I can afford...sometimes the scales are slightly out of balance maybe towards more OVerall output, or sometimes more efficiency...I look for achieving:15 Par watts/sq ft of power as a baseline...... especially if flowering over a foot or two in height, regardless of the amount of efficiency....If they are 50% efficient vs. 40%, then that might be a jump worth going for....My opinion is greater efficiency allows reduced wattage, if sticking by the 15 PAR watt "rule of thumb"....

I would say, the drivers are your heart first....Drivers tech has been around much longer than the COB, at least in production and wont improve much...not enough to warranty replacing every year...the Meanwells have 7 year? warranty's the HLG models at least...and I believe with good maintenance you will easily get to that time mark with out replacing a Driver.

The 3590 is the gem right now and the price has come down, so it isn't a bad time to buy. I bought CXA's about 14 months ago for $40 a pop and sometimes its tough to look, when the CXB's came out just a few months later...and now are sometimes less than $40 apiece....The COB's are the CPU of this decade I guess, they are changing fast and furious....but I am super stoked on my light and plan to run it for as long as I can....I can adapt it to ANY size space in reality...with enough cashola I guess :)

I forget which one is closer the 2 or the 4....but basically not everything is 3000K...in fact its probably rare to get a diode putting out 3000k right on the nose....so there are differences in the bin, minimal 1/100 to 1/1000 of a % in terms of color temp difference....3053K vs 3049K for example.

Which ever way it works either the 2 or 4 guarantee that the color temperature is "closer" to actually being 3000k....so you might score two that are the above K^ and maybe the other step process gives you a 3140K color temp diode....

Small imperceptible differences really especially to the Eye, only accurately measured with a spectrometer is my guess.

HLG-185H-C1400B is the driver I am going with and CXA3070s 3000K and AB bin are the cobs I am getting if the price comes back as I hope it will.
I think Jerry is off on the weekend as he hasnt emailed back.
Either that or he got tired of giving me quotes lol.

I guess if they change all the time and I am already a step behind thats not too good, but I think Ill still be 2 steps ahead of where I am.

I dont even have a real grow area right now.
I am just vegging on my weight bench in 3 gal cloth pots sitting in a cement mixing tub.
I am trying to think of a way to have walls around them that can be taken down in a hurry.
Maybe make a cabinet that doesnt look suspicious...

Looks like this is adjustable up to 38.5V
Tech at mouser says it is better choice than he HLG-240H-42

Buy he said something that seems to conflict with what I hear here, and that is that the cobs get mad with under-driving their current.
He was saying that the CXA3070 is rated at 38.5V @1.925A and they dont like to run under that current.
Basically dont drive 5 in parallel, but limit it 3 in parallel.

Does anyone have any rebuttal to this?
