Congresswoman on Palin's "Hit List" shot

So this shooter was an excessive pot smoker. I wonder if this had any bearing on his atrocious actions. Since this is a pot smoking site, I'm pretty sure it would be hard to find an unbiased opinion, but I'm also sure there are opinions on this. I wonder if any of you smokers would consider venturing an opinion?

I think most people who are familiar with guns could cause as much damage with a bolt action rifle as a pistol. What steps did Texas take that might of prevented this?

Much harder. Most bolt actions only hold up to 5 rounds. Working the bolt takes a little time, and reloading takes much more time allowing bystanders much more leeway in taking him out
Pot had nothing to do with it...in fact if he was smoking up that day, it may not of happened...
"I am going to kill her" PUFF PUFF "Yea man, I am really going get her" PUFF PUFF. "Um, yea fuck it, I am ordering a pizza...", "shit man, I ain't going anywhere"...

At least he didn't show up with a short barrel pump or semi-auto shot gun. The spread pattern would be devastating and you can pop in a shell between each shot so the shotgun doesn't go empty. He could of used pipe bombs. When someone decides to kill another, there isn't much to get in the way when they are committed to do it. Could of plowed through the group in a car.
Gun or no gun, if he was committed to the act, he would of found a way.
Oh yea, a bolt action took out Kennedy, and the shooter was a marine trained sharp shooter. A single shot weapon in trained hands can be as effective as an semi auto.

Most common hunting rifles are accurate enough to hit a pie plate at 200 yards over and over. You cannot react to a shooter you can't see or reach. I can hit human sized objects at 500 yards repeatedly with a rifle. *edit* In fact, Id wager that I could get 20+ accurate rounds off in 2 minutes at 200+ yards with a bolt action 5 round rifle that costs around 100 dollars. (WW2 russian mosin nagant) Thats a clunky old rifle that isn't the easiest to shoot and load.

You are absolutely correct. He either wanted to get caught or wanted to be killed. He could of had a high power rifle with scope on a near by roof or from inside a building back set from a open facing window just like snipers prefer.

Are we sure? Have they tested this whackjob for drugs? I used to believe that people on pot were peaceful, do-no-harm individuals. Over the years I have changed my opinion. Many violent gang activities are fueled by pot, or at least pot smoking has been part of the head attitude while committing these violent acts. I hope for the future of pot liberation they find no traces of pot intoxication, but we cannot unequivocally rule it out. It may have set this psycho off. Paranoia has been associated with extensive pot overload for years. I quit smoking pot because it now makes me paranoid, I used to be a heavy pot smoker, 35+ years, doesn't work for me anymore. I am also a pro pot voter, so please don't shoot the messenger.

Gang activities are fueled by the money of illegal sales and turf wars. If it wasn't illegal, there would be no underground marked, no illegal flow of cash to the gangs, and no turf wars over pot. Most gangs in the pot business are also into the hard drugs and the money makes the violence just another day at the office for them.

Yes, I agree. I was talking if he were in the same position. Of course if he were 200 meters away, he would have plenty of time to reload and get the fuck out, but still, the people would have caught on and started running, you must admit it is pretty hard to hit 19 running people from 200 yards.

this is the one of the first post that I have to disagree with you on...

I have to agree that, as with most things, pot effects everyone differently. If you insane to begin with, pot ain't going to help the situation. I would have to believe that pot, just as alcohol or other drugs, deepened his dementia. All drugs (alcohol included) tend to fan the flames of insanity if it is there to begin with...

Yea I can really kill as efficiently with my 5 round storage in a bolt action, meaning I would have to reload about 6 times during this incident, and pull back the bolt off of every shot, compared to the fast, easy to handle, semi-automatic glock 9. Yes a .308 round is an elephant dick compared to it, but much slower and bulkier to handle and manage than a glock. That is why police carry glocks and not rifles. Secondly, a taxi driver might be worried if I got in with a .308 mauser and asked for a ride to a grocery store parking lot with a crowd in it. The taxi driver had no idea Jared had a handgun.

Texas handgun requirements:
The applicant must submit:
  • A completed application form.
  • Two Recent Color Passport Photographs.
  • Fingerprints.
  • Proof of age (at least 21).
  • Proof of residency in Texas.
  • A handgun proficiency certificate from a qualified handgun instructor.
  • An affidavit stating that applicant has read and understands the law concerning a license to carry and the laws on use of deadly force and that the applicant fulfills all eligibility requirements.
  • And an authorization to access records.

I think most people who are familiar with guns could cause as much damage with a bolt action rifle as a pistol. What steps did Texas take that might of prevented this?

Now it's looking like this apolitical nut-job had some sort of personal grievance against Congresswoman Giffords because he was removed from one of her political events.

He ain't no Teabagger. Not even close. And those who wished Teabag sensibilities onto this Uncle Fester-looking motherfucker are starting to come off as a pack of partisan idiots who will attack Palin and/or the Teabaggers at the slightest provocation.

LOL!

so johnny, if there was nothing wrong with crosshairs next to the names of 20 democrats and it was just this perfectly innocent pile of unicorn farts you make it out to be, why did palin take it down right away?
She probably did it because she was mortified.

Perhaps she did it out for respect for the gravity of the situation.

Some on the Left, such as yourself it seems, believe she did it our of a sense of guilt.

For whatever reason she did it, I don't think she should have pulled it. Her PAC published it originally.

She should now have the balls to stand by it.

See, I'm using the word 'balls' metaphorically.

Palin actually does not have balls; any more than she intended for her followers to gun down the opposition.

and you are wrong. i don't wish this was connected to the right.
I wholeheartedly disagree. But I do believe YOU believe that.

i wish the insinuations of violence towards elected officials never happened.
Even the ones made by Democrats?

where did you read that he was "removed out of one of her events". Link please
I did not read it, I HEARD it. I cannot always link to something I heard. What IS clear is that she embarrassed him at a public event and he held a grudge against her.

I HEARD that when I lose my tooth a magic fairy comes into my bedroom, takes the tooth, and leaves behind money in its place.

I guess here say and conjecture are fair game...
Seems fitting that johnny thinks that facts are secondary to discourse manipulation. (Oh wait didn't he blame us for that??)

Actually It was my Momma. I was having lunch with my parents when she repeated it.

I don't fact check my Momma.

So when it turns out to be correct will you give me me SIX WEEKS to draw a crowd for when you kiss my ass?

I won't hold my breath.

OK, the facts. I provided links which prove he had a grievance against the Congresswoman.

How do you like those facts?

Should I time your response?

Okay. I took my little spanking for taking London's bait. Have your fun.

But it does not detract from the fact that this guy had a personal grievance against Giffords.

Refute that.

Then prove how it links him to the Teabaggers.

A source would be nice. :-P

Okay then.

I accept my spanking. Well played.

I'll never take what my Mom says at face value again.

And the Old Man is paying for lunch next time. :-P

But rest assured I'll be returning to this if it turns out true.

Count on it.
