Are LED's That Good?

Maybe for some my friend but to be honest I've honestly had very good luck with them and for what they produce for me personally. Don't get me wrong always looking for something better, maybe led.bulbs with the diffusers off. Its something I'm gonna test out. I've good luck, so why fix something that isn't broken in the first place.

Yep i get you, less watts used for the same outcome, you can use like 350-450 watts to replace a 600w hps if you use top quality LEDs. One issue is there's so much misinformation i'd suggest all new growers stay away from LEDs until they get their grow situation figured out.
Honestly, I like the fact that I can keep my setup cool. I'm using a tent, so a cheap wall A.C. isn't an option, with LED I can keep things cooler when the get waves hit. I've yet to flower though, so we'll see what i get for good quality bud. Mid to late veg was AWESOME under my "shitty" LED.

Welp with this wonderful reading I just did, I've came to the decision that I'm just gonna keep working on my grow setup and stay with my cfls....lol

Y fix something that isn't broken in the first place....
You fix something that's not broken because you discover that you can do much better.

I like CFLs for winter vegging. I've got a bunch of 100 actual watt 5500k bulbs that I rigged up very thriftily.

However, a plant that might yield 30 -60 gms under that cfl rig will yield 4-5x as much under the cobs.. The Watts difference is just <200 but the efficacy difference is probably close to 50%. I'm running cxb @56% efficiency.

I have been growing the same two clones for years and have been through all types of lighting systems. The best I have used so far is the cob cxb3590 cd. I am running 5 cobs at 170 watts i could go up to 320 but I am getting the same lumens as i would from my older 400 watt metal halide and i am also getting the same yield if not more. Depends how you set up your system but if you did it right you can position the cobs anywhere on the plant. Plants also look healthy from day one unlike they were from my older light "mars400". They even look healthier when compared to 400 metal halide. The color of the light from the cob is also awesome, looks pretty much like a normal light. No glare or weird effects on the eyes, I would compare it to home lighting. Makes the plants look awesome

Lights I have used

250 hps/mh
400 mh/hps == 32,000 lumens "spikes then suddenly drops to around 28 then slowly goes down from there"
mars reflector 144x5
mars 400
cxb3590 x5 at 170 watts = 30,000 lumens "stays at a constant 30k"

I said that circumstance/strain has led to 10'-15' plants. I also said that I generally finish around 5'-8', strain dependent (e.g. M4~5', GG4/Gelato/OG's/etc~6'-8'). Take a look at the Gelato pic, in the background is a Can-Filter 150 (5' tall) with a 12' blower on top. I'm 6'2 and was standing when I took that. Also note the 6'+ (Don't remember exactly how long they are) plastic "rebar" supporting them (red "poles"). I also have some 10' plastic "rebar" for those instances that they get out of control. Anything over 10' has had to get "bent" (trained) and tied down. That picture of the M4 was from it's seed run. That plant finished ~5'6". I use plastic "rebar" because bamboo (~1/2" diameter) cannot support their weight and snaps (in the middle or at the soil) between weeks 7-9.

M6/7/10 are my shortest plants. These finish around 4'-5'.

What's with all the shit heads lately?

All you LED/COB weirdos that are desperately/feverishly attempting to defend your shitty lighting by attacking anyone posting anything short of praise only make yourselves, as well as your "cause", look bad.

Not knocking everyone using LEDs/COBs, just the fanatics that fuck up any "which is better" thread.

This thread went from a decent debate to a kindergarten classroom.
he's yet to post a pic of those monster trees he grows, went from not having time for small plants and growing 12 ft trees then he got talked down to 8 and now they are 4-6

you partially right in that statement. I can. I do have certain restraints that i have to work within though.

1: $$$$ and thats a big one for me cause i'm on a limited budget, like most small growers are.
2: space, i would love to get a bigger space for my grows, but unfortunately as to number 1 i can't
3: right now i'm running 8 26watt bulbs and 6 13 watt bulbs, with the math that i did i'm pushing 275watts and i'm hitting close the the 30k lumens without it dropping
4: updates to my closet is basically a new paint job, cheep, and a couple of small fans, might update the walls with milar when finances are available

trust me when i say this, i would love to update to and HID, or an HPS, or even COB, LED systems like you and the compadres in debate. But for some like me, money is always a constraint, especially with me.

keep it real, keep it growing beautiful

i am interested in trying the COB setup... seems a little pricey right now for me. I'll stick with my shitty chinese manufactured LED lights while i take pictures with my chinese manufactured iPhone and eat my chinese food. fuckin A man God Bless America... and china too. hold on while i flop out my dick i wanna join the measuring contest with you fuckers. from my personal opinon which matters little... LED is great in tents for newbs because heat is something you don't have to worry about. seems like it would be more challenging to do on a commercial scale but it is possible, clearly. 400 bucks of LED lights in a 4x4 tent scrog setup can get you a pound of weed and you don't have to worry about burning your house down. it is easy, i like it, my weed tastes and smokes fantastic and it works for me. When i get more space i will probably try HPS. because i like to change things up but i think my next step (one at a time) is gonna be getting some DWC buckets and trying that out.

I get greenhouse 1k's by the case for less then $23 apiece. If I buy more then 1 case, price goes down even more... I don't understand the idea that $100 1K bulbs do better - Hype and marketing.....

I agree that the argument is stupid! Each has their place and LED is not a good "commercial grower" choice. AT THIS TIME!

If I grew in tents or a closet or simply a small personal grow......I would choose COBB's......hard to beat for that purpose!

That's about the bottom line......period.
I was about
I'm not growing under LED's, not looking to waste time/space/money.

I prefer 5'-8' (strain dependent), but I've had them "run amuck", and have had to deal with 15' behemoths. "Technical difficulties" have held up a current run, many are over 6' after transplant into their final (bloom) pots. If I gave them the week that I generally do to "stretch their legs" (root), they would finish well over 12'. They're only getting 48 hours, will still finish around 9'-10' (some of the shorter Animal Cookies crosses will finish around 5'-7').

Who grows plants larger than "a few feet" indoors? I'll tell you "who", anyone that knows what they are doing (and has the room to do so).

Now that the cat is "somewhat" out of the bag...
naw, just forget that I said anything.
Can you explain how that part is done ?another guy using1000watters was telling me the same thing .he's like no veg just st8 to final pots and a week later there huge and then buds them . blew my mind.got to be some credit to this cause his bud waxes anyone elses in my town and weed is legal in Alaska so everyone is growing it.

how is a 19 dollar Citi 1812 cob expensive,, or an 18 dollar meanwell driver?,, a 3 dollar cob holder, an 18 dollar heat sink,, seems pretty cheap to me?
Where do yo find meanwell drivers that cheap or does that only power the one cob from what I was trying to look in to I think it'll take 6 cobs 20$ a piece plus 2 drivers 50$ so 220 then need to buy 6 heatsinks, cooling fans, framework wiring um wait what else no seriously I'd like to know where I can get this stuff I wanna try build a veg room light

yes, that is to power 1 cob,, many guys are building single cob units now,, self contained,,
