Are LED's That Good?

To be honest, LED is the most practical lighting system, due to being able to put them pretty much anywhere without a lot of heat removal, but whether or not it produces the best quality product is debatable. Here's a video comparing LED, CMH and HPS. The CMH produced THC of over 22% while the other two lights produced in the 18% range. Why the difference is unknown. Could be UV or could be something else. Their efficiency is close to LED, at least average grade LED. The only problem being that it's a point source so requires special reflectors.

This was a single experiment though so it could just have been random variation for whatever reason. Might be worth trying out though, see if you can tell any difference. That was over 20% higher potency, which should be pretty noticeable.

i don't know what everyone fights about, theres room for both out there, and more tech that's coming.
leds produce good high quality bud, but they don't produce the mass that h.i.d. does. that's not an argument, that's a fact.
when you're growing on a commercial scale, you need that mass. it doesn't matter that the quality is slightly (yes, slightly) lower. the advantages of led shine in a smaller scale setting, lower power costs, less heat to deal with (unless you run the same wattage as you did h.i.d.),

if these look airy hairy with no trichs to you, i'm going to have to start questioning your judgement.

Heat is based on watts used , not lighting type. HID lights do not produce any more or less heat than an LED with the same wattage.
Yeah, I know. What I was saying is you get more light with less watts. Great for closets, and tents. Basically, an equivalent PAR setup with LED will be cooler. That's all I'm saying.

To the rest of you, it's very sad that we can't have an actual debate here without name-calling and insults.

Yep i get you, less watts used for the same outcome, you can use like 350-450 watts to replace a 600w hps if you use top quality LEDs. One issue is there's so much misinformation i'd suggest all new growers stay away from LEDs until they get their grow situation figured out.

Welp with this wonderful reading I just did, I've came to the decision that I'm just gonna keep working on my grow setup and stay with my cfls....lol

Y fix something that isn't broken in the first place....
