Apache AT600 led vs 1000w HPS Blue Dream Grow

I'd be very interested to see the long term results of using LED lighting. LED performance degrades over time. In many cases high output LEDs degrade faster. So I wonder if the extra cost of the LEDs, coupled with degradation in output and slightly reduced yield is worth the energy savings.. both in terms of reduced wattage used by the lamps and reduced cooling costs. Its a curious puzzle that will ultimately take time to figure out.

LEDs are given an hour rating. That rating is usually an L70 rating. It means that at the hour rating specified, the LED has 70% of its light output remaining. Presumably the slight degradation also results in a slight reduction in yield.

All things to factor into the equation.

Yep. LED magazine compared same WW chips one new, one with ~ 5000hrs

Amazing how much it had degraded (> 30%) BUT...

It was likely a multichip.

I see COBs as stable game changers + better interface materials- sink pads, etc should resolve hot spots and eliminate cheap chinese thermal grease

Wow those LEDs Ayer crazy expensive. I thought plasma was high priced. And the heat that must displace. I'll keep the plasma so cool to run

Led's are not a short term investment. If he has 5 1K's...then he can replace them with at600's and save over time...despite the upfront cost. If he has a 5K setup he also could afford some things...allot a little from each harvest...plus the savings. Adds up quick. And the heat savings on that size of a room would be a good chunk too. Let's not hate for the way people spend their money. Specially if it's a worthy investment.
Yeah tell me im running 180 watt led with 600 hps and i have to run a portable ac unit in the next room and blow air into the closet to cool it down. No way can i run that light this summer. the 1000 you running must really put out 2x the heat my 600 does.

i run a 600 hps so i would not save money on electricity to run it but would on ac which is around 1200 watts an hr in 1 year that would save me $1600.00 - $2000 the price of the light almost.

That reminds me exactly of Soma's lavender..........purple buds which had a distinct licorice smell/taste IMO, if I remember correctly. Great strain anyways http://somaseeds.nl/products-page/lavender/

didn't grow it, but was a memorable smoke and looked fantastic back in the day......
just taken down some lavender smoking it now
all the plants looked very similar but made slightly different buds
one of the phenos was very much on the skunk side of flavors
this one had leafy buds overall poor bud structure but lots of smell
and i quite like this taste
the rest of them made tighter little rocket shaped nugs no colas lowish yielding
good resin the taste is like the description its hash/afghan taste
with varying degrees of sweet skunk taste in the background
finding the right pheno or right mix of this afghan/skunk taste
and it would be a great plant imo for taste anyway
for yield its shit and its not that vigorous either .. nothing special :)

Any hints of licorice/anisette at all ????? how about the purple pheno????........nothing "special"! yikes, well that's opinionated not fact:P

maybe we can get some more feedback of recent lavender growers......Don't want Coca to waste time/$$ on the wrong strain-pheno hunt.

Nice dog.....^^

Nice dog:P
dog has been replaced by popular request

i can kind of see how someone might find the spicy hashy afghan taste a little like rootbeer or aniseed or something like the brown cough syrup if they were not so familiar with the taste of afghan/ oily spicy black imported hash and had not so much to compare it to ?

i cant really taste any of those flavours directly myself i would say the flavour is standard afghan
and if you grew afghan#1 it would taste very similar
or maybe afghan#1 x skunk#1 you could find a very similar taste and much better yield

the skunk taste in the phenos i got were mostly in the background apart from the one that was skunk only tasting
i did not have a pheno that blended both flavours of the afghan and the skunk equally that would of made a more satisfying complex flavour imo

no purple at all with what i got few pics of lavender this was the fem seed version

Last night I started MOAB at about 25% strength. Literally a density and size boost over night. Not sure if it was the moab or just the time in their development, but I will increase the dosage to full by the next 3 feedings or end use of moab by day 54 which ever comes first. Then aggressively flush.

Here is pics from lights on day 44. The best and biggest I have seen both sides. Starting to swell, not just newer buds. I get a bigger smile each day.

I dont think the led started later at all, the led was about a week ahead in the beginning if you remember correctly and the hid caught up and pulled ahead, led veg to led flower is nothing, led veg to 1000 hid flower is another, that slowed the hid down a bit but no biggie, the hid will start swelling a lot next week and the differences will start becoming much more visible. I think the led will be done 1st because of the lighting switch on the hid side, but not by much. Next weeks video will be a good one.

Oh man, I got a smile when you said this was the starting to swell, guess I have not seen Blue Dream done to its full potential. And wow those pics look like twin buds but it def shows the difference in frost favoring the LED.
Definitely a swelling going on. The plant mass bulking. I would say frost is still ahead on led...but the size catch up was the biggest difference since the last update.

I have some science for the next update on why and how this development has gone how it has gone so far.
Light change happen all the time from lower wattage MH to HPS, or T5 to HPS. But the red boost and similar white could have helped get them going I guess.
Like you say, next update will be a good one.
I see the LED side is just starting to fade now....is the HPS side fading now aswell?
Just ever so slightly on the led side. They just needed a little boost a week or so ago.
The hps has been struggling with staying green. I have it back on track now, but they started a little early.

@Greengenes707 watching the side by side shows me apache is the leader in led. even to replace my 600 hps it will easy. Heat oh man heat costs allot to cool. So i need to save 2k form my next 4 plants and buy at600. I could run that in summer easy.

MOAB rocks! I can attest to its ability to add some bud size and frostiness :) I am feeding it to the Blue Dream also. The fan leaves are a bit lighter than the other plants but I grow sativas and they tend towards the "Gold" coloring. The flowers seem to have a more blueish tint to them. I tried to capture it in this picture:

Cheers,
Mo
