You have only 28 days to veg in a 4 x 4 tent...............

the soil bed is superior to pots, faster growth, less temp issues and way less watering, the roots love the room to spread out

make a 4x4'x15" bed out of 2x2's and plywood, line with vapor barrier or thick, non toxic plastic, put rollers on the bottom so you can roll it in and out of your tent

Your colas are very nice. I would love to do 25 of those at once. Are those 1 gallon pots? They look very close to 1 ounce colas :blsmoke:

I think I'm having a problem with slow veg times because my clones never get monster roots. It always takes my clones 3 to 4 weeks to "finish" because that's all the time I will give them. My roots never get longer than an inch or 2. I've seen some people with 5 inch roots after only 2 weeks in a dome and my jaw drops. I wonder if its because I put them in those tight fitting 72 site trays for rapid rooters? It always takes my clones 5 to 7 days just to start taking off.
Correct, 1 gal pots with hydroton in Flood & Drain. I was just saying 1/2 oz per 36 plants as a low end benchmark meaning that should be the lowest you should get if grown even entry level. Basically in a nutshell a newb could get 36 plants to give 1/2 oz each under a 1K by following feed directions on a bottle and letting the plants do all the work. @llnknth has the right idea if you are going soil and want weight though.

im a soil guy,ive never run hydro before, just hempys a few times...i throw all my used soil in my veg garden
id like to try flood and drain though....
in my set up i use time release dagda nutes so i just water....its sooo easy...ive done this organically twice, the results were stellar, but composting the soil stinks my house up,id do organic all the time if i didnt have to deal with the smell

its so hard to keep 1 gallon pots soil moist, you literally have to water every day,and if a pot dries out even once to the point of plants wilting the stress drastically effects yield, ive never had a bed dry out before

When i was growing in a 5x5x8 box with t5s
I made a six inch tall waterproof box.

The same size as my lights foot print
I fit the square pots in there with coco and flood and drained to waste.

I aslo filled it and did a coco bed.

Both work great especially since you could slam a t5 set up right on top of them (led strips nowadays)

I prefers the pots though cause i like to be able to move stuff :)

I was never one for growing the big colas but rather a carpet of buds.....now that im in a stand up room i want the bigger buds for ease of trim.

I think im going to be going to short veg sogs vs scrogs

Just my 2

You cut the side branching off and force a single cola if it doesnt grow like that naturally. As for watering, in a perfect world EVERYONE would be in hydro... j/k :bigjoint:
Honestly though, I havent run into a strain yet I cant get to grow like this:
Kosher Kush (Reserva Privada)

Ace High (GPS)

2 Plaza Boss in front & 2 Roadkill Master in back (Shoreline OG)

Mothers Milk (Bodhi)

California Cannon (GPS)

Solo's Stash (Bodhi)

All grown in approx 8" 1 gallon pots with zero side branch trimming.
Yeah, you'd just have to print selectively.

I love the look of those dense colas. How long are the cuttings when you take them? How many nodes do you leave when you pop it in a plug to root?

With the clones, I usually cut off about 3 nodes (cut at bottom of third node from the top) then peel everything from the bottom node to promote rooting. They usually end up anywhere from 5"-8" at flip to 12/12. No veg time other than 1-3 days for them to harden off and acclimate to the transplant. Welcome to RIU!

I usually go max 6 weeks with 4 to 6 and fill a 4 x 4. You can do 12 or 16 and flip at 28 days no problem. The stretch will fill it.

Get lots of airflow or you will have issues.

I do the peel from the bottom node on my cuttings too. It's so much easier and faster than scraping and I get much better and more consistent results that way.
