You have only 28 days to veg in a 4 x 4 tent...............

What would YOU do to maximize yield?

Let's keep the lights, co2 and nutrients out of this discussion because of too many variables. Plant numbers are throw out the window. Also start from well rooted clones instead of seeds.

I guess you estimate how many tops you can grow in 28 days. In hydro you can most likely grow a lot more than soil so we have to take out the hydro method and make this a simple soil grow.

25 one gallon pots with 2 to 4 colas each
16 two gallon pots with 4 to 6 colas each
9 three gallon pots with 6 to 8 colas each
4 four gallon pots with 12 colas each

I don't think you can get 12 tops in 4 weeks but I'm no pro. I think I can max out 4 to 6 thick colas in a one gallon pot in 28 days. Not good but not bad.

I bet some of you can do 100 tops in that amount of time but the tent would be overcrowded right?

There are plenty of strains that would fill out a 4x4 after a month of veg with a single plant. That is assuming it's topped 2-3 times.

Okay,
So from what I'm reading is that you're starting from clone, you have 28 days until you flower. 28 days to top or mainline or any kind of training.

I usually veg for as long as I want, 2-4 months. That's overkill and I have a OCD problem lol

Clone you have the age of the mother so I'd get clones from a year or two old plant. I'd do 4 gal pots but you're not vegging for months to allow that root growth. But clones root faster and grow in my experience way faster than seed. I'd go with 3 gal.

Now you have options not just with topping but with hst. I'd FIM not top. You get 3-4 colas that way instead of 2.

I'd supercrop, make those branches as strong as they can be and maintain an even canopy, maybe sog.

28 days you can get a lot done with a healthy plant.

I'm excited to see others answers

I have vegged 2 plants from seed, topped twice, for ~month and completely filled a 4x4 with some LST. My 3x3 single plant scrogs I'd usually end up needing 5 to 6 weeks of veg. Never tried to fill my 4x4 with a single plant before. I see no real advantage to that when 2 will get you to the same place quite a bit faster.
Standard answer, if plant count is not a factor, always go SOG. Can't be beat for speed and yeild if done right.

When I first top I keep the first three strong new tops that are at the same, or close to same, height. That leaves three tops, not two.

The second topping happens when each of those three branches have three tops that are all growing towards the outside of the plant and all at about the same level. At that point you keep those three sets of three by topping each branch and removing wverytever that's growing towards the inside. That leaves nine main tops.

The third topping you do just the same but it's roughly 9x3 for a total of about 27 tops with no lower or inner growth to be left out of the light. With some strains you'll end up with either an almost flat canopy or an almost perfectly round bush. Of course it'll usually be somewhere in between.

However the plant shapes up it'll be low, wide, with a minimal apical dominance effect and no larf with a good free air gap in the understory for better air flow with 24-27 main tops.

Very possible with 1 gal square pots, no veg and no side branching. (36) 1/2 oz main colas = over 1 lb (18 oz's). Likely better than that if you have any experience. Plus its all tops and no bottom bush or larf.
If you have a strain that won't stretch much or develope any lateral branching. Even then you're looking at watering 36 containers probably every two days.

You cut the side branching off and force a single cola if it doesnt grow like that naturally. As for watering, in a perfect world EVERYONE would be in hydro... j/k :bigjoint:
Honestly though, I havent run into a strain yet I cant get to grow like this:

All grown in approx 8" 1 gallon pots with zero side branch trimming.

Damn some of you can grow shit fast. The best I ever managed was putting 16 plants transplanted to a 2 gallon pot with 6 thick tops each. I found that 96 tops was way too much. 16 plants with 4 huge tops seems to promote the best space for each cola to get enough light. So 64 tops but maybe a better grower could get more :blsmoke:

Now that's some nice thick colas :hump::blsmoke:

Thanks! Zero veg on most of those also. When I flower from clones instead of seeds I get big yields in a short period of time (no veg/8 wk flower) and I'm not even utilizing my 4x4 space as efficiently as i should either so theres plenty of folks on here that do SOG that will make my yields look like a first grow haha

Your colas are very nice. I would love to do 25 of those at once. Are those 1 gallon pots? They look very close to 1 ounce colas :blsmoke:

I think I'm having a problem with slow veg times because my clones never get monster roots. It always takes my clones 3 to 4 weeks to "finish" because that's all the time I will give them. My roots never get longer than an inch or 2. I've seen some people with 5 inch roots after only 2 weeks in a dome and my jaw drops. I wonder if its because I put them in those tight fitting 72 site trays for rapid rooters? It always takes my clones 5 to 7 days just to start taking off.
