window AC unit in closet

Anybody used a inexpensive window AC unit mounted in a 4x3x6 closet sized space?

It seems they go for as little as $80 and I was thinking of trying to get set up so that I did not have to shut down my grow op in the summer.

One concern is that these units are designed to have the back sticking out the window, in my case it will be inside the house sticking out of a closet, and maybe the condensation on the back will cause problems. I was intending on putting a partial plywood face to my closet and mounting the AC close to the floor. Another option would be to build a separate AC box and use ducting and blowers to get the cold air in to the grow space.

Anyone have experience they want to share with me?

yea but portable ac units are very expensive!!! I was wondering the same thing about using a window unit... Just trying to figure out if it will work and how to hook it up also..

stays relevant.
Well how would you vent the heat out? Window AC only exhaust air, they don't move the air away from the unit. If you were to set up a window AC, you would also want to put an inline fan on the exhaust line to move the heat away from the unit, otherwise- what's the point of using a window AC over a portable?

Rule #476: Some things are justifiably expensive, and shouldn't be skimped on.

Check craigslist for a used portable a/c if anything. I find them going for $150 all day every day bitch. :D

a portable a/c would be a better way to go so i agree however make sure you buy a condensation pump so that you dont have to drain every3 or 4 hours. you can buy a small condensation pump from home depot for like $30.00 and all you have to do is a attach a hose from the a/c to the pump and another from the pump to outside.

I found a portable A/C at Goodwill a couple days ago. $29 can't beat that! Go portable like growtech said if you look it the right places you will find a cheap one.

Yeah its just a matter of running a duct. The nice part is you don't need to vent it out the window I just connected it to my current exhaust point, it runs up to the attic and out the eves.

yeah well central coolin is part of dehumidifying so it's not a bonus they just list it as a feature to sell off more [marketing]
