Which grow light(LED, HPS ect) should I go with?

Just pricing out at the moment so any input would would helpful. Sooo basically 3X3' or possibly 4x4' grow tent, had my eyes on a couple LED panels such as viparspectra, Mars 600w or 2 300s due to energy savings but mainly thinking less heat and not possibly needing a bunch of duct fans ect. Could I get away with a 250w-400w HPS in 3X3' or 4x4' tent witout heat issues? Probably other options I'm not aware so let me know what you'd suggest.

no matter the light, duct fans are not optional. both for heat as well as fresh air (co2). 2 mars 300s will put out about the same amount of heat as 250w hps. it sounds like you want a smaller sized grow, the right tent size for you would be the 3x3. something like this:

Yield up to 1/2 to 3/4 pound every 9 weeks or so, assuming you have somewhere else to veg.

Yeah I was planning on getting a decent inline duct fan regardless and I have been looking into the cob lights from timber as well but what would you suggest for a mount for the 4 lights? That whole package looks interesting also but yes, just a few plants.

Sorry, having problems with posting. I've found these guys most helpful on their vids. So much conflicting info on lighting out there but these guys seem to condense it well. Hope it works out for you.

Steer clear of the chinese lights.

COBS are the way to go. Timber has some good deals.

If you want no muss, no fuss, no assembly and are willing to pay a bit more for individually powered lights, I'll post the link to where to get 'em. You can raise/lower, add/remove, and move each light as you see fit. They even come with ratchet hangers. I couldn't go back to a single large light after running these for 3 months.


Otherwise, 3x3 400w HPS, 4x4 you'd want 600w for the larger spread.

I live in Canada and these guys(grow lights ca) offer free shipping so I'm intrigued by this being its a complete kit plus can upgrade to 600w HID for like 30 bucks BUT very interest in the cobs on hangers to move around as I see fit.

Do NOT buy Mars! I'm going to give you a site to look at. He's in Hamilton, Ontario too. Par-Horta. c o m. He builds really nice COB LED units.

That's why I bought from him. No shipping charges or duty/conversion charges. Right here in Canada and if there is a problem it's easy to get repairs. He has an amazing warranty. 5 year warranty parts and labour. 10 years on the meanwell drivers and 7 years on the COB themselves.

All depends on what your grow tent size is. A 3x3 or 4x4?

Probably a 3X3 would work for me.

Message him on his chat function on the website. He will build you exactly what you want. For a 4x4 tent, you'd want a 600-650 watt unit. A 3x3 you'd want about 300-350 watts

He has linear 400 watt unit for $750, tax and shipping is included. You could just ask him to build it as a square unit. These units have dials to dial down the wattage too.

You can get his 300 watt for $675 tax and shipping are included. That'd give you 33 watts per square foot in your tent. That is plenty.

Yea little pricey but I think for just a few plants I'd be okay for now just with a entire kit with inline fan, tent, 400w-600w HPS for about 500 and down the line go for a cob kit since I'm still a novice. Thanks for the link tho, much appreciated.

You really can't go wrong with HPS. It's a good bang for your buck. You'd be fine with a 400 watt in a 3x3.

Might go with the 4x4 and 600w since it's like 30 bucks difference.. Unrealated but I was thinking using coco coir as my medium with some CalMag. Have a recommendation for a good veg/flower trio/kit nutritrents?

You'll get good results with 600w. I ran 400w for my 1st grow and wouldn't recommend it unless money was dire.

I went with Canna Coco nutes just to make my life easier switching to coco. Again, there are less costly options but, made for coco, can't go wrong, right? Right. Spectacular results at less than 50% of their "light feed schedule", watered/fed daily to 20% runoff from week 3 on.

Many choices for nutes out there. Too many.
