What's up with Denver's dispensaries?

I just got through browsing the new edition of Kush Magazine and I'm slightly disturbed by it. First of all, dispensaries sell medical marijuana intended for licensed patients. When looking at Kush, it is full of ads that use cheap skanks to try and draw business to their dispensaries. The ads are no different from ads for bars which promote getting fucked up. Is this really the intention of dispensaries? While the laws are making it legal for AIDS, cancer, and severe pain patients to use medical marijuana, the dispensaries are turning it into a cheap thrill by advertising as Hooters would. It's sickening...

Second of all, why is it that in every ad, every dispensary claims they have the best weed in Denver? It gets old fast. Recently, I have been to a few and was treated so rudely when I questioned the strains (mostly because they looked like shit) and was assured that they have the best growers around rather than the salesperson answering my questions...

Lastly, when I ask if the MMJ is hydro or organic, I WANT AN ANSWER!!! I do not need a lecture about how hydro is just a good as organic. I have an opinion and that opinion is that organic is much better. I do agree that hydro produces bigger buds and bigger yields but quality is what I'm interested in and organic produces the potency and taste I am looking for.

As a caregiver and organic grower, I am so dissapointed in Denver's dispensaries. I provide good MMJ and I thought that others did too. Maybe it is just the ones I have visited but I am highly dissapointed at the poor customer service, mediocre meds, and cheap looking women in the ads :(

so are you saying that it isnt possible to be organic in a hydro set up? i think the proper question would be is this organic or did the grower use chemical ferts! or is this hydro or soil grown?

it is sad that you are demanding answers to redonkulous questions!!!

Clubs have to meet payroll, lease payments and so on. If chicks make that happen then who cares. Also, if you are growing, why buy at a club?

Open your own club and make your own rules.

P.S. Women are only cheap untily you got one ;) Relax bro, it's just herb dude.

I am specifically asking dispensary customer service people if the strains I am looking at are grown in organic soil or in a hydro setup. I can't seem to get clear answers- Three people have avoided the question by answering that they have the best growers in the state. Either they don't know or they don't want to answer for some reason. Another person told me that they only sell the best: hydro, period. That person continued on to give me a list of reasons why hydro is the best. I didn't even hint about my own opinion on the matter. Since you did- I will strongly disagree that hydro can be organic. I know there are methods for 'organic hydro' but such methods involve splitting the roots and feeding organic nutes to the non hydro side of the setup. I am not an expert in hydro by any means, but I do read a lot. If there is a way to grow 100% organic and 100% hydro please enlighten me.

I go to the dispensaries to compare what I have to what they have. Additionally, it is a great way to try new strains to see what I want to grow next. I guess I am so upset because of the way MMJ is being marketed. In no way am I a feminist but I am a female and in my opinion the ads make the women look really cheap and in turn make the dispensaries look cheap too!

I feel ya. Art first i was like this is going to be awesome getting all these strains and all but the quality is definately not there. Everyone wants to start growing and cashing out and they all have the best meds just like every liquor store has the coldest beer and every toothpaste company has the #1 doctor recommended brand. I agree with the way they try to sell sex in every industry I really don't get it, sex sells but I'm not in the market for it you know? For the quality yes it sucks overall. Lately I have had to buy many products from many dispensaries like you looking for a keeper to buy clones but i gave up pretty fast. They sell the stuff at 50$ an 1/8 and I can get it on the streets cheaper for better stuff. They don't tell you what it is because they probably don't grow it themselves, they lowball growers and buy cheap as possible. if the grower says it's Blueberry than so it shall be told. I think it's bullcrap cause for all I know it's a random bagseed and I don't want to buy bull crap clones. I tried to get purples cause it would be pretty easy top see if it was purple or not and I have gotten probably 3 different "purple" strains that were not purple, tells me right there that they are probably full of shit. I prefer organic too I say just buy seeds until the quality is better but honestly with the new bill it sounds like all the dispensaries are going to stay and no new ones are going to be allowed allowing them, to keep the monopoly of their bussinesses and won't allow the best to rise to the top like a free market normally would. It's not just you seriously there is no love in these people's grows and that's why their bud sucks. Even the best buds I got from dispensaries were harsh and usually a little moist because they are more concerned with quantity, low prices and profits.

For organic in hydro check out ShrubsFirst grows, he is in Boulder and has a degree in horticulture, his grows are awesome

There are now more disp's in CO than there are liquor stores so the compitition is intense, hence the sex sells crap

The quality at most is crap, chopped early, improperly cured, and improperly stored, over time the public will decide which ones survive

only quality I have seen was at VIP federal & alameda, they have a great northernlights and jack herer

As a fellow organic grower, I have to say I take great pride in the careful creation of " living" soil. I had a hydro grower/dispensary owner tell me that his customers are only interested in hydro grown products. While I admit readily that I am a complete newb to indoor growing, I have in the neighborhood of 20 years experience growing outdoors. It has been my experience, and I invite anyone to refute, that you just can't get those huge donkey dick buds growing indoors, and even if you do get massive buds, they just can't compare to ones that have been enhanced by Colorado's hot days and cold nights. I also have found that even the nicest looking dispensary products often lack any real punch. I have developed, and am using, liquid organic fertilizer ( composed mostly of duck manure ) which I feel could be incorporated into a hydro system, but as I have never had much interest growing in anything but soil, I couldn't say for sure. My biggest reason for dedication to soil is that, in my experience, if you screw something up you can generally correct it without losing your crop, whereas I have friends doing hydro who have lost entire crops due to overfertilizing, power failure, etc., etc., etc. As I also organically raise vegetables, I feel too many people get way to wrapped up in all the technology, and forget about the careful, loving, and yes often lengthier process of growing as mother nature intended.

I love outdoor too...but there is a reason outdoor is $2000 a P and good indoor starts at $3200 and can hit $4500. Outdoor gets better every year though. You can easily grow gigantic donkey dicks indoors. Easily. Clubs here don't buy cola's necessarily. The prefer you trim from the bottom up and leave nice little nugs.

There are plenty of dispensaries in SoCal that suck. I don't frequent many of them but about half that I've been too have pretty good to average bud. Every now and then they get some really good stuff though.

Humboldt Care and Wellness Centers are having a pre-signing party for patients that sign on as primary for a one year period. They are only accepting 500. Once they hit those numbers the offer will end. What I do know at this point is that the offer will include a deeeeeep discount in price and the availibility of some exclusive strains. The pre-signing party will be in the westword and daily buds. Take a look and see if that might be something that interests you... VonDank

i dont really mind that when i go to dispencaries around denver, usually on the east side of town because i live in aurora, and all their product is reggy because you can walk in and say look i have actual bomb weed and make them pay more, i usually get about 9 a q which in my opinion isnt bad considering some of the bigger dispencaries like patients choice will only do like 2500 a p...but like that other guy said, if you know what your doing and you have good product you have nothing to worry about, theres always going to be a market for people like us who actually know what they are doing, once people stop going around tryinhg to get a free gram and free pre rolled and actually start thinking about whats going to help them with their ailment then they wont go to those ones with all the regs theyll go and look for the bombest weed they can get and when people start doing that then well see who the actual talented and caring growers are and whos just trying to make a quick buck cuz id say about 70% of people that i have seen growing dont know what theyre doing and only come out with horrible tasteing regs...theyre not gonna last much longer so if you can actually produce highly potent meds than id say dont worry about it cuz everyone else isnt going to lasy much longer...just an fyi i would say altitude on hampden and yosemite probably has the best selection of organics, indoor and out...and there is one on parker and dayton, dont remember the name but its owned by some russian dudes, go in and try the purple voodoo and let me know what you think...

Thank you for your recommendation on the organic hydro. I do love to read and learn about different grow techniques and so I will be checking it out! I love the potential yields that a hydro system can offer- plus it requires less of my time overall. Today, I felt that my post was a bit harsh (and it may be) but it's nice to know I am not the only person who feels that the quality is not there in most dispensaries. I will however be checking out VIP. Thanks again!

i'm in cali. i've had my card for 6 years. the first 3 i grew and went to the clubs. i was at the clubs a couple times a week sometimes. buying clones and testing strains. once i got over the glaze of being starry eyed i started seeing things for what they really were. one club i completely refuse to visit now, another i dread "having to" visit, under those desperate situations. and another i don't even know where they are anymore.

the ones who are in it for real get eaten by the sharks who are in it for the dollars. it's really kinda sad because there are 2 markets being piled together as one. to have "joe raver" competing with "brownie granny" can get pretty conflicting at times.

i'm bitter towards the clubs these days. i'm owed a lot of money by one of them and haven't heard from them in over 6 months.

You can spend a lot of time working on hydro. Soil is easier and less maitenance in my opinion. Veg times in Hydro veg times in hydro can't be beat though. You can have a two footer in two weeks. It takes over a month to do that in soil. I'm still deciding if I'm dumping hydro.

I saw a 4 page add for a "medical marijuana" dispensary called "Boulder Kush" and they were telling people to roll a tobacco and marijuana mixed joint and smoke it because it will last longer.... So, as a medical marijuana dispensary, selling herb, you want people to smoke more tobacco and spend less money on herb? :?

How "medicinal" is that?

Also, I heard that a dispensary called Dr.Reefer had topless butenders on 4/20. I'm not sure if it's true but I wouldn't be surprised.

*EDIT* So, Boulder Kush said they never placed that ad and wouldn't recommended it to MMJ patients so give thanks!!!!

its a shame that the legitimacy that people have been striving for will be ruined so quickly by a few bad apples. i have found one dispensary worth visiting since ive been a patient. even then they were charging 70 and 1/8 but the meds were awesome. ive been to some that didnt know the difference between indica and sativa. doesnt sit well with me when you are providing patients with medicine and cant even tell them which strain will help with their specific illness. ive been to one that closes for 20 minutes at a time for "smoke breaks". they leave patients standing on the sidewalk while they are inside with the doors locked. i never thought the day would come that i wanted to see med shops shut down but i think that day has come. something needs to happen and soon. just my opinion though.
