Vero V2

Lately there have been Vero spec updates and price drops. Now Bridgelux has announced the new version of the Vero which is said to be shipping now, although I am not sure we could get the V2 from Digikey. If I recall they had almost 1000 Vero29 3000K in stock and it dropped down to 200 so maybe Bridgelux swapped them out.

The Vero13, 18 and 29 got slightly increased output and slightly decreased Vf due to a slight change in Coefficient of Forward Voltage. Overall, increased efficiency, with the exception of the 5000k Vero29 70CRi, for whatever reason no increase in output. The Vero10s were not updated, maybe because there are still too many in stock?

Another change, the 4000K 80CRi appears to have less blue/cyan/lblue-green and more of everything else, with a nice boost in orange/red/deep red.

So it looks like we may need a new LER for the 4K if any of the SPD wizzes are interested @alesh @stardustsailor @MrFlux @Richelsdorfite

And finally the new PDF shows an improved thermal resistance in the package, but they added a new note:

"Thermal resistance value was calculated using total electrical input power; optical power was not subtracted from input power"

So maybe in the earlier PDF optical power was subtracted, in which case there really is no change in thermal resistance.

Nice catch, I didn't notice that at all. It's gonna push LER up a little bit.
All Veros on Digikey are the old version. New version has different order code.

e: They probably did subtract optical power as they encouraged in an application note to do so.

Looks like some significant changes in the 3000K as well. Less blue, less cyan. Another way to look at it, an equal boost to green/yellow/red/deep red. I would think a change like that would have to make the color temp warmer.

Just curious, wonder if they will be a higher price point or not..... :joint:

Also surprising how close the spectrum between 3k and 4k are in the 1st version. The 3k V2 almost looks like 3K and 4k had a baby and then fed it steroids....

Yep I just used the current retail prices, but since Alesh pointed out they will have a different order code they may be priced higher.

Relative SPDs.

I actually calculated CCT of "4000K 80CRI" to be 3275K. I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly.
4000K 80CRI now has
- 15.7% in blue region (380-499 nm) (v1 had 20.6%)
- 43.6% in green region (500-599 nm) (v1 had 44.5%)
- 40.7% in red region (600-780 nm) (v1 had 34.9%)
Actually very close to CXA3070 3000K.
I am not really sure about the consensus what is which color. @SupraSPL what did you use as "borders"?

Vero 18, v1&v2, @25°C, test current, typical flux, absolute output (directly comparable).

All in one is pretty messy.

When you say no difference in 3000K do you mean in terms of LER? It looks like the blue peak is down from ~63% to 43% and the cyan dip is down from 18% to 13%. Is that reflected in the charts you posted? Also, if the 4000K is more like a 3275K, what does the new 3000K work out to in terms of CCT? I agree the 4000K Vero resembles the 3000K CXA.

Oops, a mistake.
The 3000K 80CRI curves of v1 are from original data sheet (included). It had been changed and I haven't noticed it and haven't updated my workbook. Now, v2 has the exact same SPD as v1 used to have.
Nothing dramatic, just a few lm/W more or less.

Calculated CCT of the new 3000K 80CRI (and the original one as well) is 2517K. I can't guarantee correctness, but seems to be working OK for everything except Vero warm whites - I am getting 2911K for 3000K CXA3070, 4935K for Vero 5000K, 2904K for Philips Crisp white 3000K.

For the sake of clarity, this thread targets the Vero Version two series and not a model number/name (because there are Vero 10s, 13s, 18s, 29s, V8s, V10s, etc. as you may just know :wink:

I initially thought of a Vero 2, like a really, really small version of the Vero 10 when I came across this thread.

Way to go Supra, once again hogging (more like clogging) up the LED forum sections with your countless threads :lol:

I'm just giving you grief, pal! I wish we users could manage and create subsections to threads, so that we had the ability to organize information in a better way.

In short, after reading through the data you so kindly shared, our donations to the Bridgelux foundation have enabled Bridgelux to expand and further upgrade their product lineup. But will this come with an unexpected price raise for future products?

Good info Alesh, I don't think there is anything wrong with your CCT conversions, it seems Bridgelux has an odd approach with their CCT method? That said, when I look at 3000K Vero29 Versus 3000K CXA, I can't tell the difference by eye.

Your right AP, I should have called it Vero 2.0 as Bridgelux does.
