Roger on the neem and organic raid bomb.

I'm also going overboard on the garage itself. I'm going to pull as much crap out of the garage as well, Scrub all the walls down and the ceiling with a mild bleach solution, as well as mop the floor. All the shelves will be dusted and wiped down, cabinets wiped down. Then I'll use a bug spray in all the corners and all garage vents. Then I'll put everything back in the garage before setting off the bomb killing any remaining eggs that may have missed my onslaught.

A bit past spring cleaning but is definitely necessary. Like a good soldier, I shall keep both feet moving forward!!!

You know this is a good point to give perspective. While reading through Daniels thread, I noticed he took one post to introduce himself and current life situation and it definitely made me appreciate who he is and what he's about.

I used to be purely a rec smoker and would have an 1/8 on hand here and there but nothing long term. In October 2009 I received my CAMMJ recommendation.

In 2004 I was diagnosed with clinical depression and take a medium dose of Zoloft for "mental balance". In June 2009 I was diagnosed with Seronegative Synovitus which has now been rediagnosed as Schleraderma (new Dr.). Within 1 month of receiving my recommendation and using mostly Indica strains, my CRP dropped from 23 to 9 (normal is 2 to 3). C-Reactive Protien is one of the measures of the level of inflamation in the body. MJ has also aleviated the irritation and itchiness of my skin (Schleraderma translates to "hard skin"). Over the long term the skin on my calves has "softened", isn't so shiny (think stretched balloon) and has hair growing again which I am attributing to MJ! Unfortunately, Indica strains wasn't all that great for my depression. But learning more about MJ, I've switched to using hybrids and like most of you, have figured out how it all works; Indicas at night before bed, hybrids in the morning and through the day, mix a bit of Sativa and Indica strains (in the bowl) for early evening. I actually find myself monitoring how much I smoke daily and know just how much to bring along during the day. Mostly I use .5 to .75 grams per day and mostly use a VaporGenie (my whip vaporizor bit the dust) portable vaporizer. I love the taste of the vapors over smoke! But every once in awhile, I pull out the bong to get a really good rip!!bongsmiliebongsmiliebongsmilie

So let me run through the "not so positives" of life starting with the most recent (not counting my woes with the plants):

* Kidney stone - went to ER for Extreme Pain and I am the proud father of a 6.7mm x 3mm stone which is now blocking my left kidney (hey God gave us two for a reason). The average kidney stone is 1 - 3mm and 5mm is where it becomes iffy whether you will pass it or not. Waiting for insurance to approve the surgical procedure before HMO will schedule surgury, probably a month away.
* The tip of my thumb - already showed you the pics of that
* House AC stopped working, do I spend $$'s to fix or $$'s to keep working on cab?
* Backyard being flooded daily. Discover it's the neighbors sprinkler busted under ground and flowing under my foundation! Took 2 weeks to figure it out and I thought I had a leak in my house. Yeah this one had a happy ending, but I still dug up 2 cubic yards of dirt trying to figure it all out!!
* Company switched Health Plans after being with the same Dr.s for 15 years. It's not very fun trying to get a new Psychiatrist all caught up with your life (I'm on my 3rd because I couldn't click with the first two). First one wanted me to stop taking "street drugs". UGH!! Also it took over two month to get my first appt with a Rheumatologist. SHEESH, the American Healthcare system is fucked. Kaiser was such a "happy" place and one stop shop!
* 6 All-nighters at work in the last 4 months managing a sick network.
* Up to 2 months ago, working 60 - 70 hours weeks. That had to stop!!
* Receive a 2 on my last review and put on 6 month probation!!! I've worked for this company for 20 years, built all of their systems from the ground up, work maddening hours, and WTF? There is no backup person for me at work and their motto of "doing more with less" is getting tiresome.
* I have teenage girls..........DRAMA CITY!!! I never knew there was so much stress with this age!!! Okay again not so bad 'cause I love them dearly!

I've been off my Zoloft for the past 2 months (while trying to get Dr's straight) so not only has certain parts of life actually "sucked" for me, they feel a bit more pronounced and I start getting that paranoid feeling. The worst part for me is the loss of motivation. To keep myself working on my cabinet, updating my journal has been more of a struggle. To know how I feel is to watch those commercials "Who does depression hurt...everybody." You know life sucks when you have to talk yourself into doing fun things, like 4th of July fireworks!

I will say that MJ helps a LOT, but it's not 100%. Everything has to stay in balance including sleep, nutrition, excercise. But even then, I still need medication.

Anyways, I hope after reading this that none of you need to go out and take a few Paxils. Like my last therapist kept telling me, "Only worry about the things that you have control over...the rest of the shit is just noise so let it go."

Peace and good feeling everybody!!

Life has it's ups and downs. I suffer from depression also... don't think my medicine is working though and I can't smoke because of an arrest I had last summer for having a pipe in my car. I'll be liberated in November thoughbongsmilie You will get through this ruff patch... seems to me once you get the bug problem under control you will be able to get some plants into your flowering chamber. Those clones you had looked like they were pretty healthy before the mites took over.

Keep your head up! Peace!

Okay went out and got some Neem concentrate and a box of HotShot "clean" foggers. I couldn't find any organic foggers, but I figure I'm not smoking any of these plants so might as well get them as well. That Neem oil smells good, like the Orange Oil cleaner we use around the house!

So last night, found a few more mites that survived my first onslaught with Insecticidal Soap. I mixed the Neem at the recommended does and then sprayed EVERYTHING so it was WET, trunks, stems, tops and bottoms of leaves, etc.

I woke up this morning, and most of my clones are standing much taller again!! It's almost like a Discovery Channel documentary "Life always finds a way to survive". My mums have lot's of new growth overnight! Keeping hopeful. I sprayed everything down again with plain water. I've read spider mites don't like it wet!!

I won't be able to get to a full garage clean and bomb until this weekend so I'll have to fight them off at the cab level for now.

peace

Yes it's 2:30am!! Had to do a water change and figured I'd attack the mum cabinet while I was at it.

Started by taking the plants to the kitchen. Then mixed up a solution of bleach and Dawn and hot water. I have two spare totes so I went ahead and washed them up real good in the solution then let them air dry and then rinsed them again to make sure all the bleach was gone. Then I got my second set of air stones and ran them in the solution for about 10 minutes. Then I ran them in clear water again until bleach was gone.

While all the stuff was drying, I went ahead and washed down the interior of the cabinet.

Back in the kitchen, I did an inspection of the root balls. KK's root still had a slimy feel. I've read at least 5 posts on root rot where the advise what to vigorously remove any brown material. One thing I discovered is that white healthy roots are quite difficult to break, even the little white hairs. The browner roots pretty much wash away as you lightly roll the roots through your hand under running water. I actually went down each major and semi-major root path and made sure as much as the brown root material was removed. Some parts I used a scissors to cut some of the thicker (1-2mm) roots that looke iffy.

Then started checking out Larry's "impacted" root ball. The thing was wound tight but still had a bit of a funky smell and the brown tinge. I decided to poke my finger in and realized the inside was starting to die. I guess oxygenated water wasn't getting all the way inside the tightly wound root ball! So I ended up performing a pretty extenive "root-ectomy" on Larry as well.

KK survived her last one pretty well. I figured everyone is stressed after the bugs so I might as well get as much stuff done to them and get it over with. I just couldn't stop there with the torture. I took each plant and ran the entire plant under the kithen sprayer, getting all the node nooks (where the spider mites were building their webs), gingerly scrubbing the stems as well as the tops and bottoms of the leaves. All in all it was probably equivalent to them surviving a tropical depression. :D

Lastly for the mums, I trimmed up all the dead leaves, dead leaf tips, green/yellow spotted leaves, green crispy leaves, leaving only healthy tissue behind.

As for the clones, I plucked out three of them and did the same type of leaf trimming as the mums. Then I ran them under the sprayer, being much more gentle!! :)

I think the issue with the roots has to do with the level of water in the rez. I've seen many posts talk about leaving 3"-4" from top of water to bottom of pot, to get sort of a DWC/Aero type of process going. This puts the roots into roughly 4.5" water which probably isn't enough water to keep the water stable (nute or temp wise). This time the water is just under 1" below the pots.

Mum nutes are at 1/3 strength with only the BC Boost and BC Grow components. Clone nutes are at 1/4 strength. All water temps brought down to 68*

So hopefully I didn't kill everything. Time to go to bed so I can wake up and find out!!

I've just been catching up on your thread man, sounds like you really did give those girls the works so they better thank you for it by growing big and strong overnight for you :bigjoint: u do deserve it

I've heard of people putting H202 in their res to help with that kind of stuff (as far as your roots go)
Man, it was late. I did add 5ml/gal 3% H202 last night. I've heard that you want around 500ppm. The TechnaFlora Forum says it should be 5ml/gal 35% H202. That sounds like the right figure because I only bumped the ppm by 8!! :D That was all the H202 we had around the house. I'm gonna go get more at the pharmacy today to have on hand. If it works well like I hope then I may go invest in the 35% stuff from the hydro store. The nice thing about H202, from what I read, is it breaks down within a few days to water and an extra Oxygen molecule which increases the DO of the water.

Did a quick peak on the girls today. All standing tall and green! Water temps were up to 71* so threw in another ice bottle. Mum res pH was 6.03, Clone res was 6.23 so bumped it down to 5.92.

I have to say, the nice thing about Hydro and smaller plants is you can literally man-handle the entire plant from root tips to the top of the plant. Try doing that with soil!! ;) I think most of you would have freaked watching me hang Larry OG upside down over the sink getting blasted by the sprayer. If there is even one egg left on that plant, I'd be hard pressed to find it!!

Today is suppsed to hit 102*! Hopefully the garage stands tall, this is gonna be it's toughest test yet!!

No hits on any of the AC units on CL. Gotta go looks some more.

Cheers all!

Good luck on the AC hunt! You may want to see if you have a Habitat for Humanity Re-Store around your area. The have a lot of items for cheap, some close to new. Worth a look. But they go through items quick, and it could be there one day and gone the next.

I've gotten a ton of my gear there. Squirrel cage fan $25, 150W M.V. ballast $10, PVC $1, and some galv. venting for a few I can think of. I've seen A/C's there too. Good Luck.

GB, that was a great idea! In Orange County we have two Restores within 5 miles of each other. Unfortunately neither had any portable units (but I did look at the 4-ton unit for a few seconds wondering how I could "mod it" and "make it fit" ). There is a lot of cool stuff to get there so I'll keep those places in my back pocket!!

Sub'd. Good luck with these sexy babies man! You get any in the flowering chamber yet?
Not yet. :( Between Temps and Bugs I've got my hands full.

Good news is I finally worked on getting the flower chamber light-proofed!! Ended up doing a bit of a rebuild on the cabinet doors. 1/4" plywood just doesn't make for good cab doors. A bit flimsy and they cup a bit so they didn't close properly. But paying $50 for a sheet and a half of 1/2" plywood wasn't appealing in order to redo all 3 chambers. Instead I ended up buying 1"x4"x10' ($4.50) pine to install center door stop in each cab. Then bought six 1"x3"x10' ($2.40 ea) to construct door frames. Then I used the existing plywood to sheeth to the frame. The doors are now stiff, true and have a bit more weight to keep themselves closed properly!

Man in So Cal, things don't stay up for long. If you don't call within 5 minutes of the add going up you are screwed!!! I now have a Craigslist App on my Droid phone that alerts me the moment a portable AC unit hits the board!! Even then I've missed by just minutes!!! It's exactly like trying to call into a radio station to win tickets!!!

How are things coming? Any good news?
Lost a couple more clones but the mums are doing fine. I found a couple more spider mites a few days ago and took care of them which means the problem is still present. Right now the bug bomb is going off so I can't go into the garage for 3 hours. I had to turn off all fans which means the light had to go off as well. I let the air pump keep going though.

My garage ambient temps over the past 4 days has been 85* with our last heat wave. It's been hard keeping my mums under 87* since the cab draws from from the garage air. In addition to getting AC, I still need to rig up my garage vent exhaust.

On a side note, yesterday was a great day!! I've been trying to find a way to stay "connected" with my 15 yr old daughter. For those not aware, teenage girls stop wanting to hang out with Dad. I keep thinking I only have 3 good years left with her before she goes off into the big world and it makes me sad. About a month ago Mom helped us plan to take yesterday and go to Magic Mountain to do some "roller coaster bonding", just the two of us.

What an amazing day! I'll remember yesterday for a long time. We hung out in lines and ran from coaster to coaster without anything else to worry about. We talked a whole bunch and I felt like a kid again! She was so awesome to hang out with and friendly with everyone we met. I'm so proud of her!! :D :D :D
