My wife & i are hoping we can finish paying both our sons homes off in another year or so,with the cash free'd up were thinking of putting together a small house & jardin in Costa Rica where we can go for my wife to finish out her time on earth in a beautiful place.

We put a big ass dent in both of their mortgages this year so were getting real close.

This time next year I should be one scruffy-lookin', rugged as rags mofo hopefully having already reached Mount Katahdin after a few months on the Appalachian Trail... I'll then post about the journey here on RIU.

If I don't, well then I probably died along the way and will be here smoking with you all in spirit!

Wow ! No fukin shit !

You got some ass behind you my friend & my hats off to ya,its not the average man who walks the Appalachian trail.

If your gonna walk the entire trail isnt it imperative you walk like 25 or 30 miles a day in order not to cross a mountain in dead winter or some shit like that ?

When i was younger i had a friend who spoke of him wanting to walk the trail & i only remember bits n peices why he said you had to walk a certian number of miles,i do remember him telling me that there were familys along the trail who'd open their homes to all hikers to eat, sleep, resupply & clean up before they went on their way.

It would be sweet if you took a smart phone & updated us every evening of the events of the day's journey, good luck man.

This time next year I will be hiding on a catamaran with lots of guns somewhere in the French Polynesian Islands. Waiting out 2012. Hoping to set out soon, before martial law kicks in and all because of the protests that are getting bigger, and bigger. Only a matter of time before someone gets payed big bucks to incite riot or something along those lines. Then it will be martial law all the way. Hopfeully be off mainland by then. HAHA

I do plan on averaging 18-20 miles a day to finish the hike within 5 months and planning to start the trail in mid April... dropping back to 12 miles a day would put it at about a 6 month some odd day journey.

I have hiked parts of it before while in the Boy Scouts and can't wait to get back to it... closest I came to seeing it again was when I went to Boone, NC last year for Christmas... I love the terrain the trail offers and the people along the trail too of course.

The "Foxfire" books really opened my eyes to the Appalachian culture, and I'm hoping that with what I've learned from them I can make a few friends along the way... instead of being just another thru-hiker.

Tsunamis don't travel open ocean. They rise from the depths at the shore. Unless its one cause by a comet or meteor, but then I don't think anyone who isn't a multi-millionaire is for sure going to die. Last ice age was triggered by comet, true fact.
