Was planning a grow break over winter and start again after our holidays in April/May, but realised my stash wouldn't last my wife until August when a new grow would be ready, so popped a few seeds a month or so ago. Hence why I am sitting the new comparative out.

I was planning a cabinet upgrade of both lights and filters, so when I found out that @diyled is based only a couple of miles from me I got in touch, discussed what I wanted, and a week or so later drove up and had a brew, and came back with some sexy new lights. Bought 3x samsung H-INFLUX L09 strips on a hlg-120-48a driver which he kindly put together for me much better than I could do. The previous led light bulbs served me very well, but I get roughly 6" of extra height with the strips, and they are much more efficient.

I also got rid of the diy carbon filter and added a Red Scorpion 4" fan on a variable controller along with a red scorpion carbon filter. These are in a small cupboard at the side of the grow cupboard, but I don't have any pics at the moment on my phone.

Popped 2x Brooklyn sunrise, one broke after a couple of days, the other took over a week and when it broke looked really ill - yellow cotyledons and a very thin stem. I thought it would die so I popped a Blue dream'matic just in case. The bloody thing lived, so I somehow had to find space to get a third plant in my really small cupboard....it's a hard life.

Rather than my usual 11L pots I used 2x 10L distilled water containers from work and a 10L bin I got from poundstretcher. They JUST fit in, and are roughly the same height as my usual pots, so with the extra headroom I should be ok.

Started them under my old setup then swapped lights to the strips and started them at 90w on 24/0 and have slowly upped wattage over time. The left hand plant started to bleach on the tips at one point so I moved the lights to the very top of the cabinet and all is fine now. I can probably get rid of the radiator for more room as I am keeping them on 24/0 all grow and temps are mid 20's with extractor fan on barely ticking over, although I might keep it just in case the outside temps drop dramatically. Heat sinks are hardly warm at all.

New strips - pics taken during install so all wiring was still untidy. I put a pc fan on top to blow warm air towards the plants.

Days 18,13 & 05 - left plant in final pot, others in smaller pots but raised to same height.

DAYS 18-13-05.jpeg

days 31, 26, 20 - all in final pots. Lights at 90w

Days 39, 34 and 28. Plants loving the lights. On 125w and they go up to 158w so I am slowly upping the wattage if they seem ok.

Big difference in a week. Lights now on full whack, 158w on watt meter, possibly too much but plants look happy so far. Left plant looking Mag deficient so foliar fed with epsom and will add a bit to next feed.
Left plant (oldest) was one with tips burnt with too low lights, but no new damage.

plant on far right looks a darker green so I am backing off a bit with nutes. It also looks much more sativa biased, but it is a Blue Dream'matic not Brooklyn Sunrise.

Slowly fattening up. Looking at last times pics these seem to be a week or so behind, but are bigger plants.
Had to take radiator out to give more room, so relying on heat from leds to keep temps up. Lights are on 24/0 to help with keeping temps constant. Fan on tickover to help with heating, but in my small area that is still plenty of air turnover. Temps around 23c (74f) even on coldest night.
Thinned some of lower plant leaves to help with airflow.
What I thought was mag def on left plant also looks like possible K def now, as the leaf edges show signs of browning. Thoughts anyone? I must admit diagnosing deficiencies is the thing I struggle with more than anything. Hopefully that will come with experience.

Days 68,63,57.

Got a £20 voucher to spend at @diyleduk so bought another 2 foot double row h-influx Lm301b strip and he kindly added it to my existing 3 strip setup. No idea what the readings are now, seem to remember the old 3 strip was measured at 650 umol/m2 from about 15" away (think that is correct measurement, still getting into this side of stuff) but no idea what it is now. Still running a hlg-120h-48A at 158w according to watt meter. Hoping to swap it for a bigger driver when he has some in stock, to allow me to use more power if I ever get a tent.

Also took a pic of my red scorpion 4" fan / filter as it doesn't look like I have one. This small cupboard is joined to my grow cabinet and there is a hole between the two with a pc fan pushing air into the extract side. Working well so far, no odour whatsoever, and they reek like hell if I open the cabinet, so I know it is working.
Fan extracts to ducting at bottom (outside underneath cupboard). There is literally only a couple of mm to spare with the fan, so a perfect fit.

4 strips means fantastic coverage...

Buds are not as dense as the last grow, but still have a couple of weeks to go.

Two of these will probably be chopped in the next day or so, as I need the space to put 2 Colorado Cookies from the new comparative grow that are currently vegging in another cabinet in here.
I will probably give the right hand (Blue Dream'matic) plant a bit longer, as I can manage to fit it in with the others, and it is younger than the Sunrises.

Heads up guys, I am planning on launching the second half of the Comparative next week – the strain will be Candy Dawg Autos from Seeds Stockers – an up and coming new brand with some great breeders behind them.

I am planning on launching on Monday, but that might rollover to Tuesday or Wednesday as I am travelling a lot this week and next.
