Whatever floats their boat so to speak and I've had no trouble with the water going bad, I think that was BKB molasses experiment that smelled

Hey RM... just did a flush kinda thing this afternoon. Take a look at my second thread and see the nugs I'm getting from makin' it rain!!! Thanks for all the great tips

First off, Riddlme, thank you so much for all the information and for responding. Much obliged. Respek.

My questions are: If you leave them in the light the whole time, do you change the time to start drowning them? How long does it take with them on? Do you mean 24/0 leave the lights on, or 12/12 still? Do you still start when you would normally cut, if you were not drowning (aka they are ready, not about to be ready)? How can you tell when they are finished drowning?

Also if you drown in the dark like I originally described, does it make a nice compromise of time and end product quality?

If you or others would answer any of my questions I'd really really appreciate it. The Time is drawing near.

I prefer amber couchlock buds, so I will typically go 9 weeks on an 8 week strain (not always but mostly) so I tend to start drowning in week 7 or begining of week 8, you know they are drowning once they stop wicking water, means they have given up, also why the dark speeds it up cause without the light they don't have the energy to wick the water and the difference is minimal at best I simply like that the buds keep gettin bigger if left in the light

I'm on day 5 of week 8, and they look almost perfect. I just fed them, prolly for the last time, with a lower ppm nute solution. I'm thinking it may be time to drown now.

So leaving the lights on 12/12 (not 24/0) let's them continue to soak up water, and also grow, even while they are drowning.

This is true and I continue feedin cause they keep growing

How manys days do you estimate this takes? 7-14 instead of 5? I'm not sure even if I start today, that they won't run too long since I'm almost halfway to week 9.

5 to 7 days in the dark, 10 to 14 days with lights on

After you see they have stopped wicking water, and are drowning, how long does it take/how can you tell when they have finished drowning?

I like to let em go a couple days after they quit wicking water to get a good ferment going

Riddle,
I just made it rain this evening. Had to improvise a little and went with plastic bags to drown them. Cant wait till there done. Gonna give it a full 12 hours to wick the water. Maybe even one more day of 12 hr light, but after that its lights out for about 7 days. How do we look? Miss anything?

Yes it was, the molasses made it smell really bad but the end result was THE MOST REFRESHING SMOKE!!!! Best cured bud I ever smoked!

@Ryder: looks very good, I kept my lights on 12/12 till mine was done, but I am open to trying new things and might try the Darken Drowning Technique...LOL Keep us posted on your drowning, VERY NICE SETUP!!!! Buds looks fabulous!!!

Well, I just drowned the ladies, they sleep now, we'll see how many days it takes them to stop uptaking water. I am going to go with the lights on method until my dry tent and fan arrive, then I'm going to reassess the timeframe and maybe turn the lights out for the last few days to speed up the process. And as a last resort I will dump boiling water on them if they refuse to drown. Wish them luck on their journey into infinity, may their remains remain in air tight jars.

I recommend 72 hours darkness BEFORE they stop wicking...let them stop in darkness....then you get the drowning and the 72 hours darkness before harvest

So wait, yer saying just drown, then turn off the lights til chop, which because of the decreased required time to drown comes nearer to 72 hours rather than 6-10 days, like when leaving the lights on?

I just drowned them this morning before the lights went off. Now they are soaking in the dark. I still need to kill time so my dry tent and duct fan can arrive, so I don't want them to need chopping til at least 6-9 days. So unless I'm missing something, I think I'll have to let the lights come back on this evening, to prolong the process. Plus RM3 said they'll keep growing if the lights are left on. They get fatter every 2 days it seems.

Its been about 36 hours since i drowned the ladies. They have mostly stopped wicking water. During the first 24 hours they each drank about 1/3 gallon of water. I topped them off a little this morning. Just a few more days to go. Ill post pics up later.

This is the 4th day mine have been drowning in 12/12, I have been topping up the trays by top feeding the coco root pots to keep them 100% wet. I am concerned that when the water runs down through the coco, it may be pulling air past the roots and defeating the purpose of drowning. Any input?

Got my SJ Dark Dryer tent and 4" duct booster fan today, threw the tent up and gorilla taped a homemade carbon filter on the fan, I'm hoping it'll finish smelling like new plastic before I need to load it up in a few days. And ( 2 ) more caliber iii hygrometers and ( 18 ) 64oz wide mouth ball jars are on the way. I am shooting for this Saturday the 21st, that's when I'm hoping they will be showing signs of being fully drowned. A few of the plants looks readier than the others, and it is now halfway through week 9.

Last night was harvest time. Me and some friends chopped down the 3 ladies.
About making it rain:
At time of harvest they had been drowning for just under a week. I didnt see any noticeable change in bud density. A good thing I guess cause none of the top colas became soft or airy. I hung up all of the decent buds and branches, then put all the under developed buds in a cardboard box I had from the mason jars I bought. All of the trimmings went into another container.
Hopefully I will jar them in a few days and get them down to the right rh levels. Should have a smoke report in a 2 weeks. I am hoping I will be able to taste the difference.

Drowning a plant does something! I have been growing only 4weeks i have four in the ground 1 in a pot...the potted plant is a week older than the rest. About a week ago it stormed 4 days off and on my entire back yard was flooded and my poor girls were submerged under about 4in of water keep in mind they were still seedlings, i had gotten the pot plant and put her in the house under a cfl...after the rain had dried up all of the ground plants where double the size of my pot plant, coincidence maybe but unlikely

drowning a plant is meant to be done pre-harvest as a way to start the curing process before the plant is chopped down...not meant to be done to seedlings...that will suffocate the roots and kill it...in most cases...if done too often...do some research on here about "making it rain" which is really what happened with your plants.
