I finally managed to find a Master Gardener Kit without ordering online.

(It was of course where I found everything else useful, the local hydroponic shop. If you're lucky enough to have one in your area, I HIGHLY recommend you drop in, and take a look around. Seems I learn something every time just by overhearing a conversation, if not by getting into one myself. Not to mention the shop has stacks on stacks of free reading material, Urban Garden Magazine(.com) as well as others, that just happens to be the one I enjoy the most.)

So it was everything I expected, packaged a little differently maybe.. The nute tabs came in long packing strips, opposed to the two zip-top bags I expected, large and small tabs, respectively. Also the grow sponges were not I expected to find. Instead I found brown plugs, looked similar to Rapid Rooter plugs, slightly thinner and more elongated than the RR plugs, but similar material. Not the gray, foamy sponge I had expected. (can post photos, if anyone is interested)

I also picked up a small bottle of SuperThrive for a side project I have going on right now. I'm testing my ability to "clone" I took some cuttings from a lantana bush out front, if you don't know what that looks like its a low lying, trailing annual. As well as one nearly on its last leg wildflower, which I actually managed to pull up roots and all.

For the lantana i trimmed backed some of the leaf, and shaved a top layer off exposing the inner, fibrous part of the stem, and it in half down the length about 1/4 - 1/2" in length. I left the roots attached to the wildflower, and placed them in a decorative vase filled halfway with water. I then added a few drops of the SuperThrive to encourage root development on the lantana as well strengthen those of the wildflower. (I did not measure, I poured the equivalent of a few drops, just a quick pour, if it works, AWESOME, if not, oh well... it was worth the experience) After adding the superthrive, I dropped one of the air stones I originally purchased for the AG tank, the 1" cylindrical shaped, in the vase and connected to the smaller of the two air pumps I own. This was to aerate the water, as the lower stems, and roots of the wildflower are completely submerged. If it begins to do anything interesting I may post some photos.

To sum it up... a question... Does the product SuperThrive have any place in the AG tank during germination... sprouting... seedling... duration of veg? I would like to use it as a root stimulator early on. Leave the AG pump off, as my air stones create a good, splashing almost DWC bubble like action. Your thoughts??

Finally made up my mind on seeds/seedbank/online store... etc.

I ordered from Attitude Seed store, Greenhouse Seed Co. for seed bank, and opted to get two of their Colored Seed "souvenir" disks, for added stealth hopefully?

Indica Mixes "G" and "H"

The G

The H

The seeds I'm after are the Lemon Skunk, White Widow, and White Rhino... All 3 strains caught my attention. Anyone have any words of wisdom about those, or the others?? Now to wait for the delivery... what's the worst that could happen ordering seeds this way to a non-medicinal state??

lol... I dunno... Let me know what happens when the cops bang your door down..

LMAO!!!

Im just fuckin with you... It seemed hilarious in my head. I pictured you all happy and shit.. tracking your package on line and what not.... You even call in from work when you see your package is in "Out for delivery" status that morning....and then... around 11am.... BANG!!! "DEA - GET ON THE GROWND NOW!!!!"

lol.. wow im funny....

man im high.....

I'm sure you'll be fine....

BUT SERIOUSLY, LET ME KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.... BECAUSE I AM IN A SIMILAR STATE.

haha thanks for the comforting words mr alex!! i was a bit more curious about the superthrive and whether or not i should add that to the res in the early germ stages. ALSO! am i going to run into problems since i dont have the standard foam sponges that fit the AG cages?

Naw man those are the sponges i have, i personally think they wor better then the gray ones. Thats what im currently using for my set up, just like rapid rooters, they work great. not too sure on the super thrive, gonna have to be like 1/4 strength, this other guys used some in his AG and fried his plants, its just a lil harder with the AG rez since its barely a gallon.

SWEET! so what is all this talk about cutting a slit into the grow sponges? is that in the end opposite the dot in the sponge for the seed? I figure thats for the taproot, right? I hate asking so many questions when i already figure i have the answer... but then what would be the point of this forum, without questions? Ah... a question about questions.... Pre-soak the sponges in pH'd water.. yes? Or load them in dry? and finally with a flute up his nose Ralph Wiggum

I'm hoping to grow as many as possible. (haha) The air stone hose takes up on pod site, so I'm left with six. I plan to fill all 6, and go to 12/12 2 weeks after sprouting, or as soon as i see large fan leaves. (possibly some LST along the way to make room) Everything I hear is 3 is the way to go in one AG, but since I don't plan to let grow very tall, I don't think this will be a concern? Thanks for dropping in and the comment. Seeds should be here in about a week, and then the fun begins!!

Yea man, jus poke a hole through the sponge, and cut it almost in half, but leave the bottom intact if that makes sense, so you can sandwich the taproot with the sponge, and usually when you make the hole, there will be grooves on each half, that the root can follow down into the water. dont need to pre soak them, i loaded mine dry, they will soak up with the AG drip system, and the bubbles from the airstones.

The AeroGarden has been modified...
The lights have been chosen...
The master gardener kit is in my cabinet...
The seeds are in the mail...
(^Should be here soon :weed:)

Time to make another decision...
I've been posting around on others threads, asking about nutrients they used and how well they liked them. I have a good understanding of the GH 3 part Flora Series, used it on my first grow and LOVED the results. Its almost natural for me measuring them, mixing, pH'ing etc. BUT!! I also have the GH FloraNova 2 part, Grow and Bloom.

I avoided the Nova because I use the GH pH test kit, the drops, and couldn't pH the water with the Nova nutrients, because they so deeply changed the color of the water that I couldn't see the color change after adding the drops. If anyone has any advice as to what to do about that, AWESOME! By the way, buying a test pen isn't option, too expensive for me, I'm just a personal use grower. I hope to use them in the AG for simplicity's sake. (that and I hear they are pretty flipping sweet)

Anyone use the FloraNova yet?? How do you like it?? How do you pH??

Hey Shack...

I guess we are all waiting on this one eh?!?!?!

Just a thought... NO ONE likes the "cops will bust you" jokes... especially the people that have something to loose... just a thought...

anyways....

I thought I'd share my experience with the AG...

I modified it with more lights, but here is what I ended up with...

I love my AG...

Cheers...:joint::peace:

yeah that was definitely an inspiration. you posted those on my waterfarm thread early on, among your first posts. i'm hoping to do something similar with this AG grow. opting for only a few weeks of veg under 18/6 and then switching to 12/12. i looked for strains known for being compact and shrubby, so i plant to LST to keep them nice and low, and not have a need for the lamp hood extension arm. also plan to toss in some left over CFLs from the waterfarm grow. thanks for dropping in gypsy! along with all the other AG growers, i look forward to and hope for your advice and guidance.

:peace: and :hump:

I found this on ebay yesterday. Seems decent enough... any thoughts anyone??
(by the way, it was But It Now.. haha so it should be here soon..) the seller also has a reasonably priced TDS/EC meter I'm considering, scroll to the bottom of that page, you'll see it, it's blue.

Yeah I'm looking forward to getting started myself. I purposely started this thread ahead of time, so I could gather as much information as possible. I really want this grow to be successful, my Waterfarm grow (link in sig) seems to be at a bit of a stand still..
