Oh no America needs driverless semi's and that's what they're placing at least one bet on since so many licenses are unclaimed 40k.
Electric trucks will bring them, no gears to shift and the driver can climb in at the city limits and out again on the way back and never leave home. An example of automation and technology replacing people and reducing costs, if ya want paradise, this is how it is made, by using machines to do the work. What happens with all the money and extra time is up to us, we will either be useless mouths to feed, overseen by an elite, or people will live lives of leisure and recreation in liberal democratic societies is up to us. When work becomes a privilege and not a task, things will have to change, since only a small minority might actually work. Getting there will be painful however, all change is painful for some folks.

They should make a friendly port call in Russia and give public tours, while explaining to the TV camera that one of these could reduce Russia down to 16 million radiation sickened souls, just this one submarine! We have several, while the UK and France have them too, then there is the US air force and the ICBMs. Enough to nuke Russia many times over from three different countries, so loose talk about nukes is kinda stupid, the US Navy officer who speaks perfect Russian would say to the TV camera!
The news footage was the tour; why waste the energy? In the Atlantic but won't confirm where (of course).

They said same about replacing horses; humans will always be needed until a certain point. The moment you have anything in your body like pacemaker? You're a Cyborg.

A couple of examples of new battery technologies about to enter the market and there are many more in the offing and other breakthroughs can be combined to produce even better batteries.

Liquefied Gas Electrolyte Li-Ion Batteries Move Toward Commercialization

Lithium-Sulfur Batteries May See First Commercial Production Later in 2022

I think this breakthrough will make a difference, it is similar to other lithium sulphur battery chemistries that are approaching production and would most likely be incorporated into them. We could see this used in batteries in a few years and if it works as promised, it will make a huge difference in RV's, grid storage and many other applications including aviation.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lithium-sulfur batteries can be cheaper to produce and up to three times more energy-dense than lithium-ion batteries.

But what they found instead was something incredible: a chemical phase of sulfur that basically stops battery degradation! They were so shocked by this discovery that they had to check 100 times to ensure they weren’t misreading it.

This chemical phase is known as monoclinic gamma-phase sulfur but had only ever been observed in the lab at high temperatures — upwards of 95°C (203°F). This is the first time it has been seen at room temperature.

In the battery, this phase completely stops the reaction that creates polysulfides. This was so effective that the scientists sent the battery through 4,000 charge cycles without a drop in capacity, meaning it lasts at least twice as long as lithium-ion.

It is also worth noting that their battery was three times as energy-dense as lithium-ion and could charge just as fast!

These batteries will weigh a third of the equivalent lithium-ion batteries and have twice their lifespan.

To say this is a remarkable discovery is a massive understatement. But this new phase of sulfur also has other benefits, like reducing battery expansion and increased safety margins. In other words, this battery has all of the hallmarks of the ultimate mass-market battery, and these scientists found it purely by accident.

That means much faster, more efficient EVs with ranges of thousands miles will be commercially viable at a similar cost to today’s EVs. What’s more, they would actually still be useful in 10 years time, dramatically reducing waste and increasing the rate of EV adoption.

Furthermore, short-haul flights, cargo vessels, and passenger ferries will have a technology that will allow them to go fully electric. The weight-saving, long life, and competitive price will mean these sectors can finally achieve their low-carbon goals.

In short, lithium-sulfur batteries could allow a huge range of activities to go electric, making net-zero emissions far more feasible.

Well they still vote for climate change denying Republicans and Trump did roll back or eliminate many environmental protections. Yet another example of their "greater cause of bigotry" got in the way and became more important than the cause they should be caring about, the one that will drive them off their land! Jesus won't help them and the brown folks didn't do it, they fucked themselves. Maybe if someone told them that all that arsenic dust in the air is probably bad for the unborn it could make a difference, but sacrifices have to be made for the greater cause in a cold civil war and making yourself a climate refugee is just another one of them.

Let's talk about the Great Salt Lake, Utah, and climate....

I just found a wonderful euphemism from one of my net stockpiles of bigotry and general no.

“Go away in a reproductive manner!”
Anti abortion laws disproportionately affect black women and cause far more black children to be born. On the other hand they are worried about being replaced, because most immigrants these days are brown or black, white Europeans live pretty good these days and don't come much. So it's Hispanics, Muslims, Asians and Africans on offer for immigration, with some recent Russians and a few Ukrainians thrown into the mix. The birthrate is falling in western countries and we depend on immigration to maintain our populations. Already this is being felt in America's service sector and businesses are having trouble finding people. Where I live in Canada many of the fast food places and others have young people from Asia working there, it feels strange because this was always an area of high unemployment for decades and many of the younger generations had to move away. Even here in rural Cape Breton, business people in some communities were holding meetings about the shortage of employees.

these monsters contributed to the current supply chain debacle, all so some shipping company owner could tell another "mine's bigger than yours!"....
https://www.freightwaves.com/news/big-boats-are-ruining-everything
and after all this wasted money and materials, they're going back to the same size boats they used before their mid life crises' made them all invest in the largest penis substitutes ever made....so far.... :o

I got an idea, since the republicans lack a platform, they should adopt the Ferengi rules of acquisition! Trump would love it and fully endorse it. I mean they don't have much more than hate and fear to run on and haven't had a platform, other than the whim of Trump.

They are against everything, for nothing but bullshit and have no ideas other than how to harm other Americans who they view as enemies. The fact that they also hurt themselves, states and country doing this, escapes them and the constitution is just in the way, as is the rule of law.

I find it completely embarrassing that they are going that route. Just damn guys, have a bit of pride and self respect. How can you say you should be in charge if you refuse to say what you want to do and refuse to defend any sort of record/idea/etc.

It does make me think of a post from earlier today, I don't know how to respond to something like this without coming across as an asshole.

Well...OK, that sounds good I guess. Enjoy your boat parties.

If they refuse to have a platform beyond argument, well then fie and harumph.
