yup the gh lucas based formula is an awesome one...the hard water micro is a must for people not wanting to get r/o.....latly i've been testing out a mix of half coco half perlite for my hempy mix an it's working the best of all the medium combo's i;ve tried so far in the bucket...peace az
Can you elaborate? What benefits did you see? fast growth, health, yeild, etc. Also, is coco equivalent in cost to perlite or vermiculite? And did you use coco-specific nutes (I hear there is such a thing).

coco is cheaper then perlite around here....14-18$ for a brick of coco that breaks down to the same amount as a big green ag of perlite....less watering's is one thing i've found....it's good to water till's there at least 10% runoff as coco builds up salt rather quickly....defently faster happier growth an the best yeilds i've seen in my buckets come from the perlite/coco mix....as for nutes still run that lucas formula without problems just add everyother feeding is some cal/mag as the coco feeds off of it as-well an can depleate the rootzone of it thus robbing the plant of cal-mag.....peace az

Okay, I did it. I took the plunge. I have to say that I was skeptical at first. I have always grown in soil. This is the first transplant I did with the first of the hempy clones. The first batch was done in blue plastic tumblers from the dollar store. Drilled a small hole. no screen. I had no problems with any clogging or blowout. Clones were rooted in 2"x2" peat pots and then transferred to 100% perlite party cup. When I turned over the first cup and smacked it on the bottom, out came this beautiful white root system. I have been reading this thread for weeks now and have been concerned about the plants falling over and the vermiculite deal. I decided that when I transplanted I would try 2 parts perlite and 1 part vermiculite. I tansferred the clones to 5 gal Homer buckets. I drilled a 1/2" hole 2 inches up and siliconed in fiberglass screens. I am enjoying this experiment and will stay tuned in as I veg these girls out for a while. Clones were three weeks under T-5's and then 400 watt MH. Probably veg to 24" and then off to the flower room.

The look pretty sweet so far.

Guys,

I just started some cracked seeds in mini Hempy buckets. It's been a few days and I expected them to break through the surface by now. Should I just chill out and be a bit more patient or is something wrong? I'm using the traditional mix (75% pearlite and 25% vermiculite). I'm keeping them moist and have them under a few CFLs.

Here's my hempy bucket.

Coco coir is the primary medium used, but the bottom 2" inch rez is all hydroton rocks. 3 gallon bucket.

This plant is still in veg under a 150w HPS and will be turned to flower soon with a 400w HPS. Strain is Blue Venom by G13.

Thank God for this thread, i was thinking of tons of complicated things i could do from aero to onw of the million diy bubblers, with the need of pumps and bubbles n maintenance, then i stumbled across this! once again, thanks..

that being said, i started them in rw cubes and put them into... hmm probably 16oz party cups, dont know for sure that might seem dumb but ive never been into measuring glass sizes before! my question is, how long should i wait before bogging them to the bigger containers, gonna be 5gal, 100% perlite, im gonna try it this way before i feel a need to starting trying othre mixes etc.. this is how theyre lookin up until today, thanks again! :bigjoint:

i would suggest a minimum of 20% vermiculite for higher moisture and better root growth
i'd suggest coco over vermiculite if your trying to opp out the 100%perlite..expecially if worried about moisture..peace az

vermiculite holds moisture very well mixes easy and is inert with no salts in it. either way but having used both i prefer vermiculite in hempy. either way works though i would not do pure perlite.

im sure there are 100 different combinations i could use, each with its own set of pros n cons, but i choose to stidk with 100% so i know how that goes and go from there you know? my next question is, is it normal for my ph to vary by 1 from runoff and fresh water?
i put it in at aboyt ph6, and runoff measures about ph7 all the time... shouldnt it stay more or less the same?? why is it going up and should i worry?

thanks!

not sure on that possibly o2 is added as it traverses the medium but only theory. from experience i will say that root growth will be diminished by pure perlite i really recommend at least a touch of vermiculite or other moisture wicking medium. or at least next grow do a comparison.

well, possibly when i bog them ill change it up a bit and see, but i think i will more than likely do exactly that, a comparison, thats REALLY the best way to find out what works for me, thanks for your help though! happy growin

and AZ, are you saying the ph of the perlite is that much becaus eyou think the water absorbs ph from it and thats why it comes out higher? didnt really get what you meant, and if thats the case, should i soak it in ph'd water overnight like it were a rw cube? or does it not matter that the runoff ends up being higher in ph (also, i get the point that a ph change isnt so bad, since different nutes are taken up at different ph's... ) so maybe its better to leave as is?

no the perlite doesn't need to be pre-soaked..what im saying is that unlike other other mediums that shift ph up an down..perlite holds a ph of 6.5-7.0 so when using ph adjuster nutes such as gh flora series micro that will get your nuterient soulution to about 5.7-5.9...now when you give this to the plants it's readily avaible to the plants an since the medium wont drop below 5.7 an above 7.0 the micro an macro nutes wont be locked out unless your overferting...peace az

Hey Azgrow, hope u dont mind me posting for help. I'm totally new to the whole growing game, a complete 100% novice, this is my first attempt at a grow. I've done a good bit of reading on various sites, read a good few of ur posts, u know your stuff man and you seem really helpfull which is great
anyways as i said im just starting out. I came across a few posts about the Hempy Bucket, I'm just looking for a wee bit of advice, well to be honest I'm really looking for a big bit of help lol if you could answer me a few questions it would be very much appreciated. I got myself a grow tent (
165cm W x 65cm D x 160cm H) a 600w light, a desktop fan n some plants n seedlings. The seedlings are currently in soil. Do you think i would be able to replant them stright into perlite in a 14ltr bucket? I've attatched a few pics for you to see what you think man. The plants in the big black pots (14ltr bucket) where originally in soil, but i replanted them in 100% perlite for a hempy grow. n the other plants have a mix of soil n perlite. Do you think this will be ok?

This way sounds amazingly effective with great results, n best of all, fool proof, exactly what im after lol.
I got myself general hydro nutes (flora n bloom) Ive read tht i dont need the flora grow, do u think i will need to get some?
All the info on growing using the hempy method seems to be out there, but how much nutes do i mix in with my water n how often to i water a 15ltr tub? n how much water n nutes do i put in a 15 ltr tub filled with just perlite? I've seen a few posts but to be honest when guys start talking about ppm n stuff like that i get lost, i have read up on it but i'd just like it to be kept simple!
Theres so much i wana ask n find out, but i dnt wana be a pain in the ass! But i really wana get started n need sum major help!
I think the main thing i really wana know is how often to water and how much to water? how much nutes to mix in etc..

Any replies would be greatly apprecited

Just dnt wna fuck up, wna grow sum good stuff, n a promise to keep u updated n post pics

Sorry about writing a fucking book lol but i really do need the help!
Over n out,

Hello I was wondering what you guys thought about my nutrients for hempy using 4 2ft flourescent bulbs "grow lights" and R/O water with 5/1 perlite/vermiculite. I am using 16 OZ cups and feeding every other day with 1/4 strength nutrients. So far the growth is very impressive and the Super Skunk plant is looking amazing.
