There's a link to the cab in the original post.
alright I found the link...looks like its 30x30x16....so you can definitely get another potted plant in next to the res. the light may or may not be a good idea...depends on how much venting it will do for you...it could just turn it into a convection oven....just run the system for an hour without your plants in....and check the conditions. you can pick up a bunch of 2 foot fluorescents and line the inside with them vertically...but cost effective?...i dunno...and heat effective...maybe not...but I do know lining the walls with something reflective is gonna make a huge difference. hope all is well :blsmoke:

YAY!! I have Connie roots in my rockwool today after 48 hours. Unfortunately, no more Papayas seem to have cracked yet, even after two soaks, the paper towel method, the warmth of the stove, and the pH-adjusted rockwool...but I'm not giving up! Maybe in a few more days!! :)

I gave all my outdoor plants some water today, with a couple drops of Superthrive added. I also took a cutting from my rosebush and have it soaking in a glass of water with a drop of Superthrive -- I want to see if it works as a rooting hormone! We shall see...has anyone ever tried it?

Also, where's Seamaiden? We need her lovely presence! :)

I'm going to keep trying with the papayas a little longer...I have 5 in rockwool right now so I might as well give them another week. I did get one to germ, remember -- but I killed it putting it in the cab and letting it dry out. (This is because I suck.) I refuse to believe I can't get at least one more to crack!!!

How are you germing yours? We should plant on the same day if possible! Take pics of your setup for us please Hydro!! I didn't know you were also growing outdoors in soil, btw!

You have to do at least a couple of hydro connies so I have someone more experienced to watch!! As the bearer of the seeds I command it!! :)

Last night I realized I had 3 Connies in the rockwool with taproots, and in my total impatience, I put 'em on in the cab -- and two of the three have cracked the surface today!!! I have 2 in the hydro reservoir and one in soil. If I get a couple more to crack in the next few days my plan is to put those in little pots of soil and stick those in the cab too. Then I'll let 'em veg in there until they're as big as the ones outdoors, and move them outside. The goal is to get at least one more female out of the deal and finish it outside at the same time as the others, that would be ideal.

One of them went from a tiny taproot to its first set of leaves overnight! Hydroponics is RAD!!!!!!!! Rockwool is too; I'll be germing all my plants that way from now on. I can't wait to see how long it takes until they match the outdoor plants, which are now between 1.5 and 2 months old.

I put 1/8 tsp of GroAqua into the reservoir, with one drop of Superthrive. My reservoir holds about a gallon. So far so good...oh, and they're on 24 hour lighting, because the guy at the hydro store said he had always had better luck starting plants with 24 than 18/6, and I lined my cab with foil. This is so exciting!

Foil creates hot spots that will burn your plants. It is better to paint the inside white,or use mylar. There are several cheap sources for mylar. I've even seen people on this site use the inside of potato chip bags.:peace:

Something may be up with those fires up there!!!! Hope there ok!!!
Thanks for the consideration, hydro. So far we're fine. It's smoky as hell up here, and I can smell it slightly, but there has been zero ash-fall (my first indicator that it's time to start packing things up) and no breeze to push anything towards us. :)

I didn't know that! I've seen people here use foil and was told to use the underside so it's less shiny. I'll look for mylar next time I make a hardware store run. For now I'm not super worried since they're teeny little seedlings.

Holy shit dude did you really pay like 600 for that thing? Ummmm [trying to be polite] How do you feel about that now that it's all setup and running? Money well spent or would you build your own if you had a chance to do it again? Stimulus check burned a hole in your pocket huh?

Best of luck to you

Not sure where you got $600, given that I said I paid $300 plus $150 shipping. Also, did you miss all the comments where I said I felt, in retrospect, that I could do it better myself and that it wasn't worth the money? Apparently so, yeah. This has nothing to do with any stimulus checks (which I didn't get, incidentally), but rather to do with my wanting something compact and premade that someone else would carry up the four flights of stairs to my apartment. But at least my buying my cab gave you an opportunity to make a newbie feel stupid, huh? Hope that was fun for you.

I just found that three of my outdoor plants got chewed down to stalks by the squirrels last night. The dirt was all dug up around them and flung out all over the place. One of them was a plant that they had already chewed the top off of, and it had recovered and gotten two healthy tops, and today it has no leaves and is just a bitten-off stalk. The other two have a few scraggly half-leaves left. It rained last night and washed off the cayenne pepper, and they went nuts and attacked.

I doubt these three survive again. I doubt they have time to recover all the leaves they'd vegged if they do. I'm just sick. If the things aren't covered in pepper at all times they'll take the slightest opportunity to eat them. Every other plant on my terrace is untouched. I FUCKING HATE SQUIRRELS!!!!!!!!
