The Great Pheno Hunt - Vertical Grow

How long do you keep mixing in the Veg nutes? I usually go 1 to 2 weeks (depending on how lazy I am changing my rez.

You can run the DG grow solution the entire run. It's 7-9-6 I believe off hand. But I don't. I usually run it in veg for a couple weeks then I'll flip to bloom. I started them off with Canna's lineup. Gradually working them towards flower now.

Fed tonight:

250ppm Calmag
300ppm DG Grow
100ppm Liquid Karma

No rhizo/potassium silicate this time.

Fed with the same solution this afternoon (a little off schedule but I'm out for the night!).

I always feed @ 5.7-5.9 pH also.

The above mix brings it down to 5.8 everytime. I should also mention that my city water is 10ppm. They carbon filter it all and then treat it with UV I believe. Anyway, it's probably some of the best water around.

No pics tonight. Tomorrow perhaps. Depends on how busy I am, nothing showing sex just yet. Any day now they will show themselves - I have a bunch of clones in rockwool I want to put into bigger pots, but don't want to waste the coco on males.

And yeah man, my city water is outstanding. If it weren't fluoridated it would probably be the best in North America. It reads 10ppm or 0ppm on my Bluelab. Tastes great too. It's also got chloramine in it, but I don't care about that so much. Someone who is organic probably would though.

Also found a neat little desk fan that I'm hoping has the juice to push air on my lights - could replace my larger honeywell with something that has slightly less draw.

Starting to verge on having to plug in the dehumidifier as well. It's been very humid around these parts lately.

I think the solution is to run like 7 lights all different gear in a SOG setup... except for the fact it would be mostly illegal (and I operate 100% legally in every way shape and form).

So I fed tonight with:

30ppm Potassium Silicate
250ppm Calmag
300ppm DG Grow
100ppm Liquid Karma
There was also approximately 70ppm phosphorous from the Phosphoric acid I used for pH down.

Black Widow's #11, 14, 18 - all female. A few looking like males, but I will give them another few days. Most haven't shown anything yet - and this gives me some optimism for my ratio's as I've found males usually show themselves early.

When they are all definitive I will do some individual shots to see what we're dealing with.

One of my Skunks literally doesn't branch at all and I'm pretty sure is going to end up about 6 or 7 ft tall at least. There are no side branches to take clones from. Well, there are tiny tiny tiny tiny little side branches, but man... pathetic. It's untopped. This pheno from what I've read doesn't start branching even if you top so topping it might be a good idea in vertical if it's female.

Just blathering, going to need to do a huge amount of canopy management....

pH 5.9

BW#17 is a female - she's a vigorous one too. Some of my female seeds are showing sex too but of course they are females at this point. Watching the Extrema closely for male flowers. So far so good.

Found a few males, but they aren't getting pulled until they have at least a couple of premature balls - just to be certain. Sometimes other growth can appear a bit like pistils/pollen sacks when they first appear until they mature a bit.

BW #1 and #4 are likely females as well.

Culled most of the males, some plants still not quite all the way sure. Will have some new pics here pretty soon. Moved some rooted clones into bigger pots. Hit around 50% female ratio, more BW females, fewer SS - some of those are goners unfortunately. Not surprising though.

20ppm potassium silicate
60ppm from phosphoric acid
250ppm calmag
350ppm Dynagrow grow
100ppm Liquid Karma

Some of those BW girls are verrrrrry vigorous. We'll have some pics of each individual plant once all is said and done, but there's still males to be pulled I suspect.

Unfortunately it was a boy. There is another similar specimen with slightly more branching that might be a female (fingers crossed). The small very sativa leaf pheno that I suspected was a female was a female - very excited about this one. It's not as vigorous though (could be a good sign as far as potency goes).

The bottom pots are simply the males that were culled watered with Cannazyme.

As you can see, the Canopy has thinned. Still, quite a few BW females. Not as many Peakseeds females. Still a few which haven't shown for sure yet.

My ghetto cloning/mom veg setup. There's 125w light on 2 shelves plus the lamp for clones.

75mL Cannazyme
50mL Rhizotonic (pH up)

pH 6.0

As you can see I prefer to feed lightly and constantly.

Fed with the remains of last nights mix. Nothing major to report, pulled one more Skunk male. Looks like I only scored 1 female out of 6 beans. 1 female KB out of 5. 3 NL females out of 6. Somewhat bad luck

Then on the flip side though it looks like well over 50% of the BW are female.

I 'liked' the second part of the post. 50% on the NL's ain't bad either. Unless of course they were supposed to be fems. Next grow you'll have too many females.

Nah, they're all regs except for Sannies gear which is all female. I'm a little over 50% females total from all my regs I think.

Only downside here? Now I'm tempted to pop more beans.

Update: One of the big single cola skunk plants is a female. I waited an extra day to see if a little hair would develop.... good call on my part. Typically they seem to form together, but I reallly wanted this one to be female. It would appear it is (no balls either).
