The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

That's wild. How's it possible to get an end product so clear without the trichomes indicating any maturity whatsoever? I respect his art but this is baffling. Never seen extracts that look actually like clear glass. Few if any of the trichomes are amber even milky, most appear CLEAR- I'm wondering if that particular bud was picked (really) early or there was some sort of possible color alteration in the extraction process- baffled

Can any of you oil or hash buffs shine a light on this?

at any rate- I've never seen anything quite like that, it's like a flat wafer of joined resin glands. I can say however when it comes to shatter his shards are highest quality shatter I've tried yet

Have you seen the Ice and Snow strains. Covered with white crystals. The resin levels in these designer plants are pushing the boundaries of what the Cannabis plant can produce.

This isn't your father's weed :)

Hi Frenchy

Hey Drgroove, thanks for sharing and where did you learn the french term "ca tabasse".
That is sooooooooooooooo French
I'm less than 600km from Grasse :)

You do not have the look but as I tell everybody it is not the look it is the taste.
Still have to work on both !

What is the strain.
A mix of chronic and this ( to me ) unknown stain :

I have a jar with pieces of scissor hash and other chunks of inactivated hash and of course I couldn't resist :

before the third press

and the cannoli

This is a little (5g) cannoli :)

I can see you point Mo, however ALL cannabis morphology will produce milky to amber trichomes at maturity. You CANNOT have a fully mature plant that has "just" clear crystals, regardless of strain. There is NO plant that is in the cannabis genome that is exempt from this-.

The production of THC in the gland head MUST turn milky to amber before it's fully psychoactive. You can smoke a "clear trichome'd" immature bud and feel psychoactive effects, but it will never yield the same results as a fully mature gland. The gland swells within the cell matrix with a milky consistency, then it turns amber as it matures- this is a universal trait encoding in the plants DNA in which no cannabis plant is exempt from.

After breeding for years, growing hundreds of varieties, and growing not just thousands of plants but producing THOUSANDS of pounds, I have yet to encounter a plant that is completely clear in the trichomes' morphology. 'Round here if we take a pound of your bud and it's still clear- it will always always be turned away. This is often the case in amsterdam as well, many clubs refuse copious amounts of produce solely because they are not fully mature.

I love you all, appreciate your input, but on this occasion I must vehemently disagree brother. cheers!

"Ca Tabasse" is really from the South, I am from Nice and you trip me out using home slang.
You do have a pretty nice hash my friend if it is scissor only and your unknown girl is gorgeous.
Hope the French treat you well

Thanks ! can't wait to have other cannolies to roll :)

Hope the French treat you well
when I'm there on holidays yes they do :) otherwise I'm the small country that makes chocolate and watches !

If you cross the ocean one of theses days ...

Have a nice day !

Some already smoked trichs :

I am not very knowledgeable on Matt process as long as experience and details go, we work at opposite end of the spectrum with different goal. However I was interested by the fact that his trichomes do not show oxidation when drying/freezing/micro-planning them. Oxidation is to be avoided or minimized as much as possible. It is true that trichomes color stay in the white when you "shave" them frozen but they get back to a "natural" color when they form a mass of resin even without any press just with the heat of the body or of a warm day. What does it means, I am not sure and I will have to play around a lot more with freezing trichomes and micro-planning before I can give you an answer. I think that you "hurt" the trichomes by freezing and "shaving" them to get the "ice wax" look, you also go against nature by keeping trichomes this way, resin glands are supposed to stick together.
He may have a point about drying in a fridge, I have been thinking about it to mimic Hindu Kush winter
Now concerning the pic, first the piece is really really small, second it is pressed so lightly that it is more a bounding operation that a press so it does not change the transparency and third I will have to go with CA, transparent is not ripe even if part of the color result come from Matt technique, those trichomes do not look ripe without a hint of milk or amber.
Anyway for those that want to know more about Ice Wax, the best would be to ask Matt on his forum.

I was just making an observation that some of the new strains seem to be very prolific resin producers. The Mr Goo actually produced a few clear drops of resin. Those experimental botanists are making some remarkable little monsters :)

The whole clear/milky/amber resin debate is beyond my experience level. My Sativa plants never reached maturity before the weather took its toll and the Mr Goo was harvested a bit early due to budworms.

This years crop should present some interesting challenges :

I am building a large (40x20) greenhouse to extend the growing season.

As for how Matt got that glass...he is an amazing artist and he is pushing the boundaries of his craft. First he gave us beach sand and now he is taking it a step further.

Cheers,
Mo

Since I have had experience in a few hashish producing countries I can "witness" the fact that the new strains created in the states, Spain and Holland produce the most amazing trichomes with a potency not even dreamed off less than 15-20 years ago.
Timewreck is a pretty good example of that.
As long as I know all resin glands are clear before maturity but I do not think that the transparency is coming for the original color of the trichomes but due to Matt technique mostly and the small amount of trichomes "holding" together.
As Mo is saying, Matt and Beatrice are amazing artists and I have a lot of respect for them because our quest is the same, I totally disagree with their goal but appreciate what they are offering to the community.

Last time I pressed my hash it was too wet and I kind of ruined it ... it worked great the first time. Eventually I will be using both style, Matt's way of drying and then cannoli pressing a la francaise!

that's right! I was too impatient. the story of my life. That's why I like Matt's method, quick and effective way to dry the resin. I did notice the difference with the first hash I pressed. A folk told me he used to put the patty in his shoes and walk around for half hour ... ever tried this?

How could you not be impatient, it is a hard fight for me too and it happens every time especially with new strains.
Yes I have practiced the "shoe press" technique, quite effective with small quantity and higher quality trichomes. Only problem is not being able to see and control what is happening and the potential smell that could be added to the pressed hash (happen more often than you would believe).

hehe I double bagged when I tried it ! unfortunately the trichs were too wet and that's when it didnt work. I will try again!

Also I got another question regarding bubble hash. I never really wanted to spend money and I have been doing gumbo method with gravity. Only I was always loosing so many trichs! So now I finally got a new screen. I used to have the 190 microns only, to remove the bulk of the green matter, and then I would wait for the trichs to fall at the bottom of the jar. My trichs were wet longer with this method as well.

Anyway, I finally ordered a new tool http://www.dudadiesel.com/choose_item.php?id=fs5 ... it's 75 microns and 6$.

So my question is, how many trichs do I lose by not having a smaller catcher than 75 microns? like the average strains, what's the percentage of trichs below 75 microns? I hope this works for me.

Hey Cousin, you cannot beat the price but I would not use those screens if only because of the plastic quality if not food grade. You do loose a lot of trichomes by using only the 75 microns and it is easy to show you how much:

The cannoli on the bottom is the 73 microns first wash, the third from the bottom is the 73 microns second wash, the second cannoli from the bottom is the 45 microns with 3 wash.
Another good example are the pics from the Black Label were you can see how much you get in the 45 bag. Please note that you will always have more in your 73 than in your 45. If it is not the case it is because you have a lot of unripe trichomes.

THANKS! What was your next bag above 73? and could you estimate what percentage of trichs are less than 73?

If all you used was the 73 and the 45 then I can estimate myself from looking at the picture and indeed I would be losing a LOT! hehe. The screen is nylon by the way, I am guessing the same stuff used for hash bags... I will probably endup buying the right gear but it's only for personal consumption and I have been making my hash without any bags for quite some time!

.
Does anybody else look at these and just want to eat them? nom nom nom---ahhhhh When curing Frenchy's hash in my jars, I often open the jars and the thought always crosses my mind "dude, you know you want to stuff a whole one in your mouth and start mackin' down on one....(momentary pause)...maybe next time (jar closes)"

Is there a science behind 73 microns ... like who came up with that? Anyway, I think I will get my ez strainer today ... I will let you guys know how it works. The one thing I like too is that I won't have to stretch the nylon on a plate to scoop the hash out.
