Tesla New Model Unveil...

Gas tax, no. Such are generally regressive. Not until there is coast to coast carbon-free infrastructure.
There could be rebates for folks who have off road vehicles. We farmed when I was a kid and bought untaxed gas straight from the local oil company. Then at tax time we paid road tax on the portion we used in our road cars.

The high gas tax in EU countries have led to tons of cars that get 40-50 mpg. If we can tax tobacco, beer and lottery at higher rates, we can learn to live with more gas tax.

LOL ya nazi’s fucked up, seems their not that bright even today ;). Just watched a doc about it and they used, what was basically, rocket fuel for the skin :o!
There was a Nova about it recently. Or I saw it recently anyway. The mooring line down to the ground created a ground, then the rain caused the static electricity in the air to arc across the gap between the frame and skin. Plus they had a leak in one of the gas bags and didn't stop to vent it before trying to dock. Without the leaking bag they would have been fine even with the sparks.

I am the incarnation of the ideal customer for a high-efficiency car that runs on chemical fuel. I want to touch 100 mpg hydrocarbon.

I don't think I could trust a electric car as my only one with above ground power lines. Our power goes out a couple times a year and being stranded because of it seems like too much of a possibility for me to be comfy with it.

I am excited by the Aptera. It looks like it could operate when shit fails.

lol you haven't been to Michigan much I'm guessing (this might be naive on my part, I am not sure that solar tech doesn't work with thick cloud cover or not), it is grey as shit here about 2/3 of the year. Solar is fun, but not sure how reliable it is for us either.

We will need to micro target what we use a lot better I think will be the real revolution. The mass production stuff was great and all, but it is incredibly inefficient in a lot of ways. Same with how we build houses near identical across the states.

Tesla truck factory in Texas is almost complete....Tesla trucks coming soon

I'm all for converting all trucking to electric. I'm not a fan of Tesla but if they can make some progress then that's a good thing but if history is any clue they'll have a tremendous amount of setbacks and delays before they reach any form of steady production. In the meantime others are already in production mode with trucks on the road. Tesla has missed so many target dates that you really can't pay any attention to anything they say. Right now all they have is some buildings. And that photo is just from one angle. They still have a bunch of work to do before that will be a functioning manufacturing facility. I think they just spruced up that one end for a photo op.

Another thing is their service infrastructure. It doesn't exist. Trucking companies are not going to wait months for repairs like current Tesla car owners do.

Tesla was ahead for awhile with electric car technology but the others have caught up. Tesla may have better battery technology but the others have other advantages. Tesla did get things moving so if anything they were the catalyst. Competition leads to better products so it's great we have every auto and truck manufacturer trying to beat each other. That can only speed up improvements and new advances in technology that will start to get the 2 million diesel trucks off our roadways.

They might have had a ten year head start but others are already launching commercial trucks. Volvo and Freightliner are already in production. Ford's electric F-150 will be on the road this spring.

I want them all to succeed.

At least the F150 looks like a truck. Tesla not so much :(.
