I like to do this occasionally to remind me that it really isn't growing that slow :) pics are from 1/6, 1/12, 1/17. I flipped on 1/7

The "no-net-scrog" :)

Since I fed her good today, I predict pistils by Saturday. Stay tuned!

Can't rename the thread, but it should say manifold-ish or something. I just wanted to see how It behaves, and see if some creative pruning can get a more even yield. I think I'll still see bigger outside flowers, but I'm hoping it won't be as noticeable as last grow. this was just after trimming, and 6 of them still had the one inner sprout that I left on. This is what I mentioned earlier, where the 2 on the far left with no extra sprout dried out to almost the same weight as the big and little ones from another limb. The small ones still had nice tops and dense nugs, so that is why I tried this scrog-like technique.

This is my argument for quantum boards. This picture is of an ounce of Superskunk primo tops, and an ounce of GDP that hermied late. I chopped the hermie when I saw the signs, but it was 6 weeks into flower and had all milky trichomes with a few amber. The GDP that went full-term hasn't cured yet, but I tried the hermie stuff and it'll melt you into the couch.

As soon as I saw a definite seed attempt, I chopped her, and snipped every nug from every stem. I ran them through a spin-trimmer green, then let them dry. What could have been waste - but had density because of the QB's - turned into 3oz of larf and nugs with a kick :)

Since one clone was doing well and the other not, I called it quits for one and repotted the other.

But nothing goes to waste. This "learning tool" shows me why it was living, but not thriving. Only 3 main roots coming off the stem.

So here's the veg tent now, and if the one on the left doesn't show a little more effort, she's gone too :)

That flower looking thing on top looks new, looks like another just under it. Weird. :)
IMG_6514.JPG
I was looking close at the other one, and what looked like weird nute-burn just in the middle of a leaf (not the base or tip) was actually a bunch of dead amber/brown trichomes LOL

Pictures really help me grow. Above pic looks crowded, lots of tops barely seeing sunshine. About 15 leaves and 2 shaded shoots later,

Pruning, I like to leave a few of the old outer fanleaves that are not shading anything. Pretty good barometer of the overall health (for me) If they get damage, they don't get better, but they stop when you fix the problem. Since they are closer to the roots you'll usually see the effects of a nute issue on them first, also because they are older and circulate more water.

Loving this journal HAF

I was only planning to grow 2 plants next run, obviously all 3 seeds popped and are growing lol.

Think I might do a manifold-ish test run on one of the 3

Best trick I can offer it to wait until it gets 6-7 nodes before topping back to the third. Lets the roots get well established before you chop.

Right now I'm playing with light/heat changes. I pumped up the volume on the lights, and lowered them a bit (about 16" still) but had to bump my exhaust up to 4 (of 5) to keep the temp around 80. I prefer high 70's but 80-82 is OK with me if it's OK with the plants.

If you are really dialed in (I'm not) you can watch the humidity-drop/temp-rise as a sign to see if they need water.
Just for "how I think", I'd rather not put the exhaust on max, and I'd rather not raise the light or dim it. So my next action will be removing the "dust-sock" from the carbon filter. If there's any junk in my closet, (which there isn't) I'm not too worried about it clogging my carbon filter inside my grow room. I have a double set of that washable furnace filter before the air gets into the closet.

Seems to top out at 82 though.

Ok thanks, any other tips or advice you can offer, i am all eyes/ears

I have done a little reading this morning on nugbuckets tutorial and also nebulas tutorial, both over at growweedeasy

Trying to get the basics down, im excited to try this out

For sure, I waited to 6 nodes on my first two manifolds, but wish I would have waited for the third node to use, to be bigger. I think it struggled on mine with not enough leaf surfaces left to let the plant bounce back quickly. Right now I'm at 6 nodes on both of mine, with the 7th being very little still. I've chopped the 1st and 2nd on both, waiting for recovery. And also, when I chop the nodes above three, I'm waiting for those to be big enough for decent size clones. When they are, I will chop and mainline, and have clones.

I was thinking on removing my sock as well. I don't want my fan on high, but now my fan and filter sit on the floor outside my tent, and the sock isn't doing any good, it's just being a restriction. But, if you remove your sock, and you're worried about lint and dust and stuff, take a look at what I did for my incoming air to my tent. I made filters. Hope you or anyone reading can use this little trick.

EDIT: Right on, somehow I missed you did basically the same thing lol.

BINGO! We have a winner!

The 6-node thing is a guideline, but you have to watch the plant. The one above was under the small 135watt veg tent light for 60 days waiting on my last harvest, then another 2 weeks under the 260w before flipping. I didn't even count the upper nodes once it got past 6, and I have either the 3rd or 4th node depending on how you count. I count the first true-leaf set as the first "node", not the first set that pop out.

I also counted up to that node, and as soon as the shoots were big enough (about 1/4-1/2" of stem) I wrapped one of those rubber coated wires around where I would eventually snip. Not tight, but it was a reminder of which ones I was keeping, and it helped force them away from the stem a little.

Keeping an eye on those specific shoots, also reminds you that two nodes up, you can go ahead and ditch those fan leaves (or any other stuff) that shades your "target" shoots. I also snipped every shoot above that area on watering days. leaving all the fan leaves to build the roots. No wasted energy going to shoots you'll top off anyway.

edited: I'm stoned and forgot where I was going with it LOL - I had about 8 nodes before I topped, and it took a while, but she grew slow and healthy during that time, hoping it'll save headaches later.

i have read both nebula and nugbuckets tutorials on manifold/mainline, both were good reads.

i was thinking i would take the nugbuckets approach and top for 8 colas

BUT it looks like you have topped for 16? is that correct? pic at top of this page, that plant is a thing of beauty, i want one like that lol

the 6th node on mine is just showing growth now, so maybe another few days/week and ill be ready to begin

My next seed grow will be a Northern Lights fem. When I pop that seed I'll take pics of my process and document it better. With the transplant and shock delay on pone of the clones, I set the date for next Sunday to decide. I won't chop the clones, but I won't waste flower-closet room on free weed when I am counting on a reliable rotation :) They can visit the big lights again when the closet is still in veg mode. then back to the tent.

I only have one seed of that strain, so it'sgoing in a 5 gallon pot (which I know can fill my closet) and other than letting some lower shoots get big for clones, I am doing the precise V-8 manifold like I started on this grow. What I want to try is a longer veg to get some height, and the about 304 nodes up each stem top it again. for 16 cola, then keep it at that.
