sponge in soil mix

I'm just wondering if you could cut up a kitchen sponge to add to your soil mix. would it work similar to pearlite/sponge rok or is it a waste of a sponge?

i think it's probably an invitation for fungus and would eventually just break down in the soil. If you want something inert with the same effect, just use vermiculite. It's probably cheaper too.

perlite is used to aerate the soil, a sponge would just hold the water in and get all nasty
