Bluelabs pH Truncheon

How many times would you clean your ec meters and how do you do it?

My bluelab truncheon isn't working correctly.
I cleaned it with a sponge and Cif cream, rinsed the probes thoroughly under a running tap for 5 mins, shook access water off then tried the truncheon and its still giving drifting readings.
I then contacted Bluelabs.
They said " make up a baking soda paste and clean probes. Rinse under tap thoroughly and test the truncheon in ec calibration fluid 2.77." I bought a new bottle of it.

Still not reading correctly. Reading 1.6 ec 1.8 ec 2.0 ec there is also a very dim flashing at 2.4 ec

Anyhow they have now suggested soaking it in pH down for 30 mins then clean it a few more times.
Has anyone tried the pH down cleaning method before?

I think you are both correct. Lol
I did soak it in pH down and recleaned it but no joy. Reading 2.2 - 24 ec in 2.76 solution.
Bluelabs must want me to try all the options before issuing a new truncheon.
There's a 5 year warranty. This one is ~ 3 years old.
I'm gonna do the pH down method one more time to be sure then contact them again.
There is a member on here who building a couple of EC meters and is hopefully going to send me one :D

While still in "talks" with boo labs I got an inkbird ec meter, thankfully on Amazon.
I unboxed the inkbird ec meter, put in new batteries and tested it straight away in a new bottle of Growth Technology 2.76 ec solution. The inkbird read 2.2 ec. It was put back in the box and I'm getting refunded.
You'd have thought they'd have been factory calibrated?
I gave Amazon and inkbird bad reviews.
I'm waiting on a very cheap £2.02p one, cheapest out there, from Amazon to try now. Amazon's great for free returns.
After that I gonna test a Milwaukee lol

Blulabia now have asked me to use 1000 grit sandpaper and soda paste to clean it!
I haven't told them I soaked it in lemon juice overnight before scrubbing it with an electric toothbrush, fairy liquid dish soap and baking soda powder ........ lol

How is Amazon responsible for your EC meter not meeting your specifications? I'm no Amazon fan, but it seems ridiculous to slight them for a meter not meeting your expectations.

The EC meter being off out of the box is not an immediate cause for concern. It would be if it couldn't be calibrated.

The ultra-cheap EC meters are junk btw.

The HM Digital Com-80 is probably the best bang for buck; it's ~ $25 and is quite reliable. After months of use, it's quite accurate as confirmed by calibration fluid; it's usually within a few percent before calibration.
