just wondering if one of you less technically challenged folks might be able to confirm something for me, I've ordered some lights from China and they're using MW 240h-c1400b drivers, I mentioned sonoff switches to the seller and they said 'can't apply to our lights'.. I'm not sure if that is the case or just miscommunication!

So would appreciate it if anyone could confrim that I can use one with these drivers? Thanks in advance!

That's hooked up directly to a hlg-480h-24B. You can use Sonoffs with Meanwell drivers.
Cheers

Biggest issue with sonoff that I found is I can't use it because it doesn't connect to 5ghz wifi :/
Any way to work around that without changing the router ?

i have a dual 2.4/5 router that these wouldnt hook up to. i had to turn my phone to a wireless hotspot with the exact same name and PW as the router. connect it at 2.4g on the phone router then turned off the phone router and it connected to my xfinity router.

I have a Motorola surfboard from Walmart. Paid 29 bucks for it. I only use it for my sonoffs. I have 12 total connected. Not only do I use them for my runs. I have them for my house lights and pretty much everything. We've pretty much automated our entire house. The ol lady loads the washer n dryer, dish washer. And had them all set to run n ready. Then they come on while we are at work/not home. We've cut down on our electric bill almost 40 bucks a month less. Just by using them. We have everything run through Alexa and raspberry pi. I bought motion sensors. And put them in the kids room. That way the lights, TV, DVD players, nightlights, and pretty much every kids toy that plugs in. After 3 minutes of no movement in the rooms. It shuts everything off. But I run mine through the breaker panel. Instead of running so many sonoffs throughout the entire house. They are all in a box next to my breaker panel.

Yupp! That's an issue!
Get a repeater with both 2,4 and 5ghz wifi, connect it to the router using 5ghz and set the repeater to use both. I need a repeater because my router is to far away from where my tent is.
That way you can still use 5ghz for your mobiles but have the Sonoff's on a separate 2,4ghz network.
Such a repeater only needs a wall plug and since I use it I've no issues anymore. I got mine from am4zon, ~12$.
You could also connect it via "network/ethernet/patch/CAT cable" or what ever it's called and use it as access point.
Both should work and there is no need to create a hotspot via smartphone. Repeater/access points can run all the time, extends the router range and allows you to use both frequencies.

I've heard they block installing of alternative firmwares like Tasmota with their latest releases.
Can someone confirm this step?

Are you/they referring to the dimming function of the driver? or just the AC side?

was referring to the AC side which I assumed would be fine considering they're rated up to 250v and 16 amps etc, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something but I was curious about dimming, as there is a sonoff with dimming capability apparently..!?

I'm new in the world of led and a bit of a novice with electronics, so I'm still trying to take it all in, apparently some know it alls believe it should be common knowledge lol, considering I wasn't taught a single thing about electrical currents/circuits etc during my school years, I think I'm doing ok

There is absolutely no reason you can not use a sonoff. It's no different than a switch. You can't dim with it. But you can control your.light schedule with it.

If you upgrade to version 1.6 or higher you can't flash over the air but you still can flash with a physical device, forget what that's called though. All the ones I've bought, as recently as 2 month ago, came with firmware less than 1.6 so it's been no problem. I'm not sure they are actively trying to "block" the 3rd party firmware though, might just be incompatible.

Thanks, bro!
That's what I wanted to know! Good to hear that it continues to work. Such a flash device is cheap to get. Mainthing is it still works! Thanks!
My Sonoff's lost their app settings 3 times this run and had to be paired again. It's frustrating!
Either I flash them to run Tasmota or I get an Amelech controller + hub.
As it is now, it annoys me too often!

Yeah after I couldn't connect to the Itead servers for several days, I decided to go custom. In a recent release of Tasmota they added a scheduler / timer feature so you can set the schedule and not have to worry about wifi going in and out.
