Hey I was out celebrating yesterday because my VA settlement came thru!! I went to the grow store to get a light. My buddy, who has never been a poor source of info, guided me to the xtreme nano dimmable. If this thing is all that, you can bet I will get another..I have problems with old school ballast "hum" so I figured what the heck.. I'm going for quiet.

Anyone used them yet? they are supossed to be made in US, really light..I have not plugged it in yet. If it works as cool as it looks It's gonna be awesome. I chose the 600 because I really do not need anything more right now, If it works as advertised, I can crank it down for germ/propagation, and back to 400/600 for bloom. I decided against a 1k for now. Im just not prepared..but you can bet there are some good things coming. Is it too cool to be true?

I have a buddy who has 3, they work great,BUT, if you set in on 400 watt, you use a 400 watt bulb, 600 watt, a 600 watt bulb, Don't turn a 600 down to 400 unless you want to buy bulbs a lot.

oh be prepared to buy more and more cool/expensive shit if you get into it. as for ballast you should have picked up a solis tek matrix. they'll do any lamp from 400-1000.

Awesome, yeah I was looking at some money stuff and though I have always prided my self sustaining op on low budget and garage sale finds.. I am going to clean it up a bit and support my retailer for a few thou down the road. He's a good kid and always is there to help. I did not think he would give me bad scoop. I was wondering about that on the dimmer and thought that might be the case. which is OK. I am laying out some low voltage stuff with contactors to flip my lights. I have an old Allen Bradley PLC to handle the programming. These looked like ideal candidates to stuff into my hurricane tested enclosure..I used to built power systems for cell towers.. These things are super light, I was concerned about durability, they seem to defy physics as far as heat dissipation goes.. If it works as advertised I will lay a few of them out in my power box. gonna be spiffy.

but I'm wondering just how you run lamps and dim, the dimming options don't add up. that nano at 1000 watts will dim to 75 percent, 50 percent , where do you find a 500 watt lamp at the 50 percent setting ,also where do you find a lamp at 75 percent or 750 watts?

I think it has to do with older digitals firing at the lower setting may not be good on the lamp, newer digital ballasts(at least some) are made to power up at full wattage and after 15 minute warm up they dim to the wattage you've set it to. of course with a lower wattage spectrum will be thrown off a bit I'm sure.

some come with a percentage, those are meant to turn down a single bulb, Which I wouldn't do. But others like lumatek have 400/600/1000 watt settings. You can use a 400 on 400 ect. you get 3 ballasts in 1.

Do those nano's have percentage settings? I thought they were like the lummies.

def not a lumatek fan, are they still using the rotary dimming switch? what happens if you put in a 400 and mistakenly have it set at 1000?

percentage....It also allows for just the right amount of light, giving you the ability to customize between 100%, 75% and 50% settings

this is why I like my solis tek matrix, you just screw in any lamp you want and it fires it up at full power.

Great info, a few of things I did not consider. I admit i got starry eyed, I was sold at the box level.. it was real shiney.. I was shopping high after just finding out and recieving my VA 100 percent rating. It was a good day.

I guess I'm thinking its versatility if I need to use it for specific set use. I am going for a 3x600 layout for bloom and a seperate 2x400 for the veg room. I have a really badass enclosure I want to mount and wire up with timers, contactors..relays for my CO2, fan timers..etc. It will be pretty trick. I would end up with a few more of these, I was particularly attracted to the size. Everything in the room will be able to be remotely monitered and operated via the PLC. I eventually want to have my h20 res for watering on a servo for timed waterings while I am away. I can really dial in my lights this way. Having the PLC might be over doing it but I thought it would give me something to do. I can do cool things like shift/phase the lighting times to simulate light movement. Just tons of possibilities.

Not to burst your bubble... but don't VA disability dudes get checked often? I have a friend who is 100% disability and he gets checked for weed every month.

no we do not. that is not va policy, I have been like this for six years and at 80 pct. but no, they don't...now if he is in a Substance abuse thing maybe..but you do not have to piss clean to get benefits. My bubble is fine. They would be piss testing millions for no reason.

Well, the new ballast and light has been in place for a cycle and seems to be working, I cannot believe how cool it runs.. I was going for quiet so the tiny fans are a little whiney but not bad It's all getting mounted in an enclosure so I guess the noise is livable for now. I thought I might regret not getting the 600/1000 but I am glad I didn't. Venting is inevitable and can be put off till summer when I add two more. The plants are happier. I have the 400 and 600 running side by side, when I measure the light it is all pretty consistent across the canopy, much brighter and consistent all the way around. I raised the lights a few inches, I try to keep eveything under 4 ft now. Seven in bloom now, 3 pair 2wks apart and a straggler.

Peace All!
