"Sleeper" strains: Which cheap/ strains turned out to be unexpectedly good?

I am close to Yuma and I was getting very good brickweed a year and half ago before I started growing. It was not pressed as tight as usual and was very green. Looked like indoor weed.
OZ was 90, which is a great price. My connect is still getting it.

I was curious about what he was paying and where that stuff is coming from but he did not know.

Are they growing that indoors? The beans make short, quick finishing indicas. I also heard they are getting three outdoor crops a year now with quick finishers.
Obviously, I can't tell you where this stuff came from, but I'll make a few educated guesses/observations:

-If its seeded, its not being grown indoors. Growing indoors is too labor/space/cost intensive to waste space on males, which are easily culled indoors. Typically indoor commercial operations use plants grown from clones, not seeds, and the strains are chosen so they won't go hermie. Yes, indoor grown stuff may have an occasional seed, from hermies, but it should NOT have many nor be regularly seeded.

-If you're paying $90/oz for it, its not being grown indoors.

-If its being "bricked", that suggests its being grown with the intention of being smuggled in large quantity. . .either across an international border, or at the very least by individuals accustomed to smuggling across such borders (ie Mexican cartels). So again, indoor weed isn't grown on that scale. This is outdoor stuff, and the fact that its being bricked suggests that there is an organized crime element here.

-The low cost suggests there aren't many middlemen between the grower and the buyer. It also suggests that there may not be much of a geographic distance between the grow location and your location.

I'll decline to speculate further, but will only add that supposedly some of the Mexican growers are using autoflower genetics in outdoor grows both to increase the number of harvests per year, and also to rout the usual fall busts.

only one way to get mersh from an indoor grow.....on accident
By "mersh" I assume you mean seeds.

Its certainly possible to generate seeds intentionally on indoor grows, and people do this all the time either in breeding, or just to create more seeds for personal use.
Its just stuff that is grown this way typically doesn't end up in commercial sales, that's all.

Note that seeds found in indoor grown stuff are probably caused by hermies, and not only are they likely to be similar in quality to the weed they're found it, but they're also probably going to be "female" seeds.

blubonic from spice of life. they were free seeds with a order that were priced at something low like 20euros a pack (at the time price way higher like 78 last i saw) and they turned into massive plants. got 1.5 lbs from one grown in the shade! nice frosty as hell nugs too, not the most dense mind you but id say they were still not too fluffy either!

honestly iv had a lot of success with the free seeds, i always look them up and only plant the ones that impress me, but some of those free seeds are just testers of the next best thing..

not just seeds quality and the fact that he had said it was bricked and he wondered how it was grown or w/e and so i was kinda jp by saying the only way it was grown was by accident...i understand that many ppl (including myself) will collect their seeds if they wind up with a pollinated nug and that those seeds will be quality herb and i also know you can have a plant that has a normal amount of seeds and grown properly the weed is still way better than any mersh

I went cheap for my first Attitude order and got some Nirvana and Barney's gear. The Barney's underwhelmed me but the Nirvana Swiss Cheese was a very solid grower. 3 of 3 germed and popped, they finished in 62 days and were very consistent. That was my biggest surprise so far but I'm only a couple of grows in!

if you want cheap gear that's AWESOME, try mandala, or especially sannies. you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that hates on either of them, and mandala's temporarily out of print 8 miles high is my 4th favorite strain, but the one i'd want for 24/7 perfect for any occasion blazing.

Do they grow and flower in under 6 weeks HG?

I been growing for 30+ yrs and the biggest surprise out of beans I ever got was 1) G-13's Pineapple Express & 2) Barneys Farms Phatt Fruity......they can be compatibly be grown together as height, veg time, bloom time are all spot on within a day or two, the smoke was/is nothing over the top but it certainly was NOT bunk weed either but the yield was over the top, surprised the ever loving shit outta me...what a money maker. The Phatt dictated the nute intake as it couldn't handle the nutes as good as the PE but 4lbs 5.25oz of pruned, dried smoke-able bud out of 6 plants indoors caught my attention. I actually kept a photo journal it was so good.
I just harvested a G13 Pineapple Express at 10 weeks, and it was a beauty. The smell is awesome, it's not the strongest strain, but that's okay for certain occasions. Yield was great, over 4oz with a 25 day veg...one of 4 plants under a 600w. Healthy as hell, took nutes, pest resistant, and no complaints. Big dense buds, and did I mention the smell? There may be a lot of hype around this strain given the movie by the same name, but the strain itself is legit.

Buds the size of a 24oz Tecate? Yes please.

I've had really good luck with nirvana's AK48. Fast vigorous grower and flower. Rock hard nugs of sugary goodness, and the scent growing and curing is insane. A real powerhouse. I bought their indoor mix a couple years back, and got tall hemp looking plants that would just not flower. Would not recommend the mixed bag. That said everything else I've had from Nirvana has been above average.

Here are two Ak 48 keepers out of a 10 pack of seeds: The outdoor was a sweet, musky, skunky, dank flavor. The indoor was more garlic, spicy, skunky.

I was very impressed with Querkle, Jillybean and Silver Haze. If you're looking for inexpensive seeds i'd personally say go for G13 Labs Blueberry Gum, Delicious Seeds Northern Lights Blue, DinaFem Seeds RoadRunner#2, or EVA SEEDS Monster.

Took the words right out of my mouth. 350 a pound isn't uncommon and I've scored it at 40 an ounce. There was a good size bust just 5 miles down the road from me. About a 5 acre field the bacon found. Another month went by and they found another field almost the same size 20 miles from me.

They are growing it in the States hardcore and it is cutting down on the cost because they don't have to smuggle it across the line.

Also, the brick weed I see is lime green about 60% of the time. I've been smoking it so long that I know the time of the year to stop buying it cause it is the last of the crop. Usually from now til november.

When i had to buy my pot I was perfectly happy with low quality weed...but then I started growing and found out there are better weeds out there...Lots of them..and once you start in with them, you realize that you were smoking terribly terrible shit weed...

I was really impressed with Nirvana's Bubbalicious. Hardy, potent, and very sweat smelling. It was really easy to grow too. Some day I really want to try Mandala. I've been hearing good things about them for years.

pure power plant from nirvana can be hit or miss, depending on the phenotype.

It can be a high yielder of ridiculously frosty nugs, even in substandard growing conditions. We used to abuse that strain, and it still put out the best looking nugs I've ever grown. Mid size, 8 week flower, 16" plants with 10" colas. It was fantastic stuff.

Then again, some of the other beans in the same pack come out really lanky. Still huge buds, but no frost.

I'd still say it's worth buying a pack and searching for a good pheno.
