Pics would help but if the plant is still spitting off white pistils it’s def not ripe. Trichs matter but don’t think the plant doesn’t need to be ripe first. I’ve had some long running autos that are just about to finish up. They’ve had mostly cloudy trichs for 3 weeks.
Once all your pistils turn and recede, then look at your trichs. You’ll have a decent window to let the trichs amber up more or harvest with mainly cloudy.
During the last couple weeks the calyces will swell and produce more pistils….let this process run its course and your buds will reach maximum density and weight.
Trust me, most grows are cut short well before the buds are truly ripe. They’ll still smoke ok and will def get u high…..but the taste and the affect will pale in comparison.
Good luck. Post some pics and you’ll hear the same from more than just me.

I prefer looking at the bud structure as a whole. Colour of pistils doesn't mean much as I've had plants that brown at week five, but dont recede and swell until week 10. I'd wait for the pistils to loop back into the calyx and wait for the calyx to swell soon after.

Assessing trichome colour, bud structure and pistil receding/calyx swell as a whole is more reliable.

You will also notice a ripe bud has a milky, silver haze from a distance. I find that overall colouring more reliable than a close up of trichs strangely.
