I'm going to attempt at building and growing in my own little ghetto hydro setup. no this will not be as ghetto as my cardboard creations, this will actually be ok. i finally got most of my stuff intoday and put some shit together, tested the water pump and the lines and everything works pretty well, i just need to get my medium and what i havent decided on as some type of tray.

as of yet the specifications are:

18 Gal resivor

1500 something air pump.

12 inch air stone (heavier than those light ones for fish tanks)

79 GPH submersible pump

i have run a 1/2" tube from the pump, and have 4 1/4" tubes that will be going to plants, i may add 3-4 more for coverage, not quite sure yet. these pics are not of it put together but just the components, when i get more together i will set it up and get pics of it working. i will be growing 4 plants with this sytem, they will be vegged in 4 inch cubes dunk style and put in this for flowering.

I'm going to set this system up in the flower room, to hold my water that i will be watering my soil plants with, and to see if this system will run without failing on me. there will be fresh water in this, no nutes. i may use this to slow water some of my soil plants before i put the hydro system to use, but this will be the test, as i add what i need to this system. while it's in there, i'm going to run the air pump all the time, and have the timer set to what it would be if i was growing, but will just flow straight back into the resivor. i will get pics up after i do this, in a few hours if im still awake.

Russ0r,
keep in mind when purchasing a tray, that if you use a rubbermaid container you will eventually have to buy a new tray because the plastic will break down. If possible get a food grade plastic tray. They are a little more expensive but they will last much longer.

What size pots did you decide on using?

i may end up testing this theory in the 3' planter that my soil ladies arei n now, 2 harvested, the last two in it will harvest soon. it's about 7.3 gallons, i'm going to put 4 plants in it.

Goodluck with this grow. I know you did really good on your last one. Happy growing.

Need to go and get a chair and popcorn so I can watch this grow all the way though...

Well the power went out for 24 hours and it got around 30 degrees, while the plants i have left could still survive - they arent doing well. I'm going to scrap my op for a while, ill have all the equip when it's the right time again, things have changed in a way for which i must stop growing now. It was nice while it lasted, and i might still hang around :D

it's sad to see a successful grower stop. maybe we will see you once you are through that pound and change you got. either way, i wish you the very best russ0r.

I believe that russ will return and stronger and bigger than before, those ounces are only gonna last him so long then he'll be back.

Like the old saying he'll come home when he gets hungry, excepty he'll be back when he's sober

very well said. and hopefully by then - i can start again... it really sucks having all this equip and not being able to use it. not to mention having to brutally murder 8 girls into an icey grave... even if they got half frozen the day before because the power went out

Looks like a simple set us. Can you post the cost and the reason you chose medium etc.. Watering times you may run, etc. Thanx VV

very simple, very basic, should work just as good, though, i like it simple. always have.

i chose the medium because it was easiest to get besides perlite which is messy. big reason i went hydro was laziness. and the dirt, this is my first expierence with the pebbles, i was reccomended to use them, they seem ok, little bit of clay resdue inside the bag but that's expected, probobly have to rinse the pebbles before i actually use them so i dont have clay in my resivor.

As of right now i am planning on feeding 4-5 times a day, 15 minutes each time.

In the beginning this was going to cost me about 40 bucks. i've spent about 100-150 now i think, because of over ordering, cant order everything to specfics, and shipping is a bitch. here are my figures before i stopped logging what i was buying:

79 GPH Fountain Pump Submersible - $5.00
3x 1/2" grommets($.70 each) - $2.10
Bag of 10 1/4" Barbed Elbows - $1.95
Bag of 10 1/4" Tube support Stakes - $1.95
5x feet 1/2" Poly Tubing ($.30 per foot) - $1.50
50 feet black 1/4" vinly tubing - $5.95
bag of 10 1/4" hole plugs - $1.95
2x 1/2" end plug($1.95 each) - $3.90
1x 12" air stones - $2.95
18 Gal Sterlite Tub (resivor) - $7.99
15 min. interval timer - $6.99
AG-1500 air pump - $14.99
Black Silicone glue - $7.99

TOTAL $68.16
SHIPPING $19.86
GRAND TOTAL $88.02

the hydroton+ship was a little expensive, so was the PPM pen i just bought, $1 each on the square pots. i didnt even need 1/4th of the 50L bag of hydroton, but it's cool.

I think i've devised my feedling plan, any feedback on this would be great.

I will be using Fox Farms: Grow big, Big bloom, Tiger Bloom.

PH will be 5.5-6.3 throughout this of course.

I will be soaking my 1 inch cubes for the germinated seeds(oh yeah, i will be growing white widow), 100 ppm of Grow Big and 100 ppm of Big Bloom.

When i see the first sign of roots on the sides, they go directly into 4 inch cubes, soaking in 200ppm of grow big, and 200 ppm of big bloom, and put into the hydro system, the resivor will also have the same ppm's.

FEEDING: 4 times a light cycle, 15 minutes each time.

so, at this point im guessing we will be 1 week into out period of vegging, i will raise my solution 50 ppm of grow big, and 50 ppm of big bloom per week, up to 800, until i flower. probobly will not change out the res until i flower.

So, flower week one and two i will be using 200 ppm of grow big, 200 ppm of big bloom, and 300 ppm of tiger bloom. for a total of 600 ppm. (lower nutes hopefully so they dont stretch out too too much, feedback on this would be great)

week three and four, or when they stop stretching, i will move to 400 ppm tiger bloom, and 400 ppm big bloom. 800ppm.

week five and six, i will move to 500ppm big bloom, 500 ppm tiger bloom, for 1000ppm, i probobly wont go above this.
