running old filters?

I'm gonna have to give a glass tube a try lol. and is the 99.9% filter a carbon pre-filter from a coffee machine?
I think i kinda made a mess of this thread =/

No I'm weary of carbon...they remove odor from your grow and in my head will do the same thing to oil..they won't selectively catch stuff...but idk I've heard some people like them...I've never seen a successful attempt online

They have 99.9% carbon that removes a bunch of stuff..and there's also a non carbon one that removes chlorine and 99.9% of stuff also idk.....but it seems to work pretty good and it clips on the metal coffee filter I use

Well I'm sure the dude will get some ideas at least...hopefully...I think everything was covered:)

interesting . meta and qeizo seem to be in a loopy confusion ..

im gonna take it you have all these old filters ( which i hope have been stored and sealed after blast, and dry) ( i would throw mine in a ziploc)

well.. you got a whole combo of crap on them, if you only ran primo buds and trim, you might have a nice collection of filter oil to obtain.. buttt if you were running anything and everything, (which included a lot of nasty or not so pretty/tasting runs) then your oil will be contaminated with that( meaning you will only get such a good quality extracted out) ..

i used to collect ALL filters, rinses of tools, rinsed plates etc into one ISO jar in freezer.. welllll. once it came time to re winterize, my end product was well.. alright.. not comparable to a nice run, but shit, something to eat/smoke. ( a lot of it though :eyesmoke:)

i now divide collections of reallyyy good rinsed filters/tools into one jar, and divide not so good rinses into other jar.

my friend, in your case.

i have never packed an entire tube with blasted used filters...nooo freaking idea how well that will work.. but sounds interesting!!

i instead, would put all those filters into a mason jar.. pour enough room temp 99% ISO or better over the filters.. swirl around. swirl some more(dissolve everything in jar till liquid becomes nice amber).. from there, I would freeze entire jar over night, then strain liquid through (new clean) filter into pyrex..

freezing liquid helps it run through filter without getting it clogged.

Well currently my method is simple inefficient fast and quality....stressing inefficient
weed goes in a mesh strainer to let iso flow through quickly separating from the herb....I pour a bottle of iso through a mesh screen that holds a couple ozs it pours all over the weed and I pour for about 10 seconds maybe less idk.....immediately hits the filter below....coffee filter with some attachment filter that supposedly removes 99.9% of crap idk

Once fluid passes through...I throw a dash of iso through the filters to pick up anything

Wastes a lot of iso...10second or less wash but still picks up efficiently.....that's nit like "show off hash" just how I normally make to toke lol

If you pre-wet the coffie filter / filter paper with iso , the amount of "good stuff" caught in the filter will be reduced . Thats standard lab practice

I used to wet the filter first..sure it stops "wicking" but that's never been the issue for me..as the liquids swap places..if the exiting fluid has thc it will be the last to exit and some remains

Splash at the end will fix..instead of wetting at the beginning aaand the end

guess i will keep collecting and report back my results from running a mini tube of only filters. I would be afraid I would screw up the flavor if i used ISO over Butane

Surprised no greywolf yet. I believe he saves his filters for future run. I think the guy saves everything actually... bongsmilie

1.25" tube for making BHO(butane) is what we're talking about, I believe. At least in regards to tube diameter
1" ID max is what we've found most effective. Much larger and it is hard to pack evenly, so that the butane doesn't just find the easy way out and much smaller and it is a pain to load and unload.

OK, update time... I stuffed my chopped down sstb with used filters last night and sprayed just as I normally would. This is what I ended up with, that piece is a little bit larger than a quarter. Doesnt taste bad, I guess this would be an extreme mutt run... thoughts?

Sooo that's from filters? Or a combination... I got confused there
How old were the filters/materials...better than I expected to come out if all filter

yep, pure used unbleached coffee filters. Just enough to pack the mini sstb i have cut down to about 3.5 inches... i am pretty stoked...:eyesmoke:

they were from a baggie full i have been keeping them in for months so age unknown.

I just saw this thread but all my filters I use have plenty of leftover oil on them at the edges and wondered about blasting them too.....I was positive something good would come out and now I am for sure saving all my used filters!
