Roseman's Odor Bucket

so do you have to let the fan run the through the carbon filter 24/7?
During the end of flowering I do. Before then I don't have it in place usually. Sometimes I turn off the fans when the lights are off, really depends and it's more necessary to keep them on the later you get into flower.

Carbon eliminates odor
Pulling your stinky exhaust air through it will eliminate the smell
What is there not to get?

i just dont see how carbon filters work
not sure if this is easy enough for u but here goes.

the carbon has "pores" in it...... and Activated carbon has even more pores.
these pores actually "fill up" with smell
molecules, and once all the pores are filled the carbon no longer works. Same in a fish tank , the activated carbon takes out impurities like ammonia and others.
Now to me this is BY FAR the best way to get rid of "room odors" , it is very easy to use and really works for "heavy odors" :bigjoint:
i got a 40lb carbon filter and im on my 2nd crop with it. some say they last a year some say more or less, all i know is it has lasted over 3 months (24/7)
now if u was to try and take the smell out of a thousand plants then it would probably only last a half hour....... so u decide when its "full"

i would love to know how u had it hooked up?
only 4 and it didnt work..... geez what make/model of carbon filter did u use, so i dont ever buy that one :bigjoint:
maybe u just had a carbon "sock" ?
(i am using a cheap stanley blower(about 250cfm) to suck mine out and it works great.

Carbon filters only work if your grow room is sealed up. People love to just put a carbon filter in a room with a fan on it (not part of the actual ventilation for the room) and then claim it didn't work.

Or they'll grow in a closet with the door open and complain, well the odor is leaking out the other way! You have to ensure that all of the air leaving the room is going through the filter or they don't work. If you set it up properly, it works AMAZING at removing the odor. I've growin in a 2 bedroom apartment and had 6 plants in my closet. My roommate NEVER knew through 2 grows. Can -66 filter did it's job.

Now I grow in a 4x4 tent in my apartment (no roommate), but when family/friends come over they have no idea. It's completely cleaned, no odor at all. Like I said though, I have coupled it with an ozone generator for when my veg room is running and it's not going through the filter. It dumps air into the same room as the flower tent and the ozone generator keeps everything 100% clean. It's only on 15 minutes and then off for an hour and a half.

Smell? Smell's like the cleanest smelling room in the house.

CAN 66 in a 3x3. hooked up to a 440cfm fan. direct exhaust to outside

Man, there is no way you are running a can 66 filter and it's unable to scrub the air in your 3x3 tent. Unless that filter was sitting around at the hydro store for the last decade.

I've had my can 66 filter for a couple of years now. I figured I'd have to replace it by now, but not a smell anywhere.

I have mine hooked up to a 365 CFM fan and it exhausts my grow tent with no odors, no problem.

as laser said it was probably sitting around the grow shop for a decade (and possibly used) ...... or it might have got wet before it was sold to u? either way the carbon inside was not activated anymore so the smell just went right through it.

So did you ever fix ur odor ?

Cheap odor control

....Do you know the Muffin fan
...the muffin fan
.... the muffin fan.

Actually, the whole setup cost about $30, and that is including the ONA.
You will need:
1. A five gallon bucket
2. A "muffin" fan, or a round fan of some sort that has the motor built into the compact frame of the fan.
3. A drill
4. A one pound container of Soil Moist, which is a water absorbing crystal. You can find it at almost all nurseries and grow shops.
5. ONA, or Odor Neutralizing Agent. YOu can get it at most grow shops or "baby" shops for new mommies.
6. A 5 gallong bucket lid, which may be optional.

(For what it's worth, another twist on this machine is I recently heard that pinesol & water in the bucket works good too.)

Get yourself a muffin fan, or a Durex brand or Holmes brand circular fan with base. They are very common at Wal-Mart and can usually be bought for less than $8 US. The reason you should get this brand of fan is because after you have removed the base, it fits perfectly into a five gallon bucket.

Step 2.
Using a flat screwdrive, pry of the nubs on the base and remove the screws.

Step 3.
Remove the fan from the base. Keep all the parts in case you might want the fan again someday.

Step 4.
Place the fan into the five gallon bucket, frontside up. If you boght the holmes brand fan pictures here it will fit VERY snugly. You don't even have to secure it in place.
(If it is smaller than the opening, then cut a hole, smaller than the diameter of the fan, into the bucket lid. Use some floral wire and secure the fan to the lid so that you can place the lid onto the bucket.)

Step 5.
Drill about 8 or 10 holes around the bucket.

Step 6.
Remove the fan/lid and put about 9 cups of water into the bucket. Then put about 1 cup of the ONA into the bucket and mix it up. Be careful, it can smell pretty strong at first.

Step 7.
Put about a cup or two of the soil moist into the bucket. Make sure that all of the liqued is absorbed. You don't have to use alot! The crystals expand to about 50 times their size.

Step 8.
Set the fan on the lowest setting and put it back on the bucket. Plug it in and put it somewhere in the corner of your grow room. I don't actually have mine in the closet itself...

You will notice a difference in about 5 minutes!
If you have a big grow room, I'd imagine you just use a bit more ONA or put the fan on a higher setting. Not only that, but ONA has a pleasant smell all by itself. It just smells *clean*, which is the best way to describe it.

The great thing is that the Soil Moist is re-useable. Once it dries out, mix up some more water/ona and pour it right in.

I'd say that that a cup of ONA, with the other parts water, lasts about 4 weeks or so.

I've been using mine now for a long time, and its perfect. When ppl come over, they always comment that our place smells "clean."
Using the soilmoist crystals REALLY makes the ONA last longer.

You may need to tweak it for your own grow room, but that's the basic design. Thanks!

u guys really are preaching on and on about carbon filters but the fact of the matter is this is a cheaper, mayber not as good, alternative. For people on a budget growing less than 10 plants this will work fine. Thanks for the info Roseman!

Not activated anymore? Do you even know what activated carbon is? You can get it wet or rinse it off and it is still fine once it dries. Activated carbon just has thousands of pockets on each piece which "absorb" the odors. The extremely high amount of surface area is what makes it "activated". Its not an additive or anything.

better safe then busted...........:bigjoint:
i have tried the bucket (its not roseman's) and with pine sol it did not work now with ONA it would work a lil better ..... and i would even say the best alternative to carbon. But 10 heavy odor plants is very hard to hide and IMO the bucket will not do it.

The simple fact is that the bucket is about 10% effective. The carbon filter is 100% effective. I can't in good faith come on here and tell people that the buckets work. I've tried them, all of my friends have tried them and we all have carbon filters now. There's just not a comparison.

I'm going to unsubscribe to this thread because it still irritates me everytime I see it referred to as "Roseman's Odor Bucket". I respect Roseman and this is killing it, makes me want to hate the guy for posting some dumb shit about this bucket, it's greatness and taking credit as though it's his design and/or idea.

yes it is heated to a high temp to activate it ......... i did not know that fish tank carbon and air carbon was the same ...... i just figured the humidity or water could have clogged it up. maybe i was wrong on the water part but those "pores" do not stay activated for ever (of course meaning the carbon will have less "pockets" or pores) because it does "absorb" most of the bullshit outta the air .
im just sayin either the guy used it wrong or it was clogged/used when he got it.

I was just going to let you guys hijack the thread, but I have to say, I can't help it that I read about the bucket in many books and on many websites and built my own. I never said or claimed or meant that I invented it and built the3 first one. I only built my own and showed how.

I also have Roseman's CFLs, and Roseman's Grow, and Roseman's Tutorial but I did not invent those either.

Everybodys got to gripe I guess and if you can't get many visitors to your own threads, then...........
