Ok guys. I thought i had everything sorted out. I have a two week old seedling that iv just put in 12/12. shes on her second set of leaves (3 fingers) . But its got roots growing out the bottom. The plant itself isnt showing any negative signs. No yellowing, growth still the same ect. Iv had a look around on the internet and it could be one of two issue. A plant thats growing roots downwarss faster than apposed to outwards. Or its root bound. im not intirely sure how big my pot is but if you get a stamdard sized spiral CFL and place it next to it its as tall as the CFL. So not the biggest pot but definitly for two weeks old it shouldnt be root bound already? IMG_20141211_122406.jpgIMG_20141211_122406.jpg

Your good dude, relax. It looks like its in a 1gal pot. A 2gal pot is good for 6-8 weeks of growth. Transplant after a month and half. Depending on your grow plan it will depend on the size pot you want to transplant to.

2-3 months = 3gal pot
3-8 months = 5gal pot
6-18 months = 10gal pot

The bigger the pot the bigger they can grow. Usually a 3-5gal pot is sufficient. I had tripped myself out recently with my mother plants being in 18gal rubbermaid bins for like 8 months, wanted to flower them soon but didnt want to have to transplant them. Read through one of my books that I open from time to time for situations like this and this is what it said. Cheers! :bigjoint:

well my only problem is i dont have another pot lol. And iv gone to 12/12. i originally was gonna do 12/12 from seed but i let veg for two weeks first. I didnt think the pot size would of been such a issue iv seen 12/12 from seed in cups smaller than this pot and made it from seed to harvest

could i possibly cut them if they get too long? i realise that will stunt growth a bit but im not tooooo worried

This is the book I use, maybe you should grab one. I had it a few years back when I first started growing, lent it to a friend, never got it back so finally recently purchased it again. Love it. There are a million great books like this out there, I just like this one.download.jpg

VERY rarely will you see someones plant die or have crazy outrageous problems because it was rootbound. Just dont expect to grow a 4 month flowering sativa in a party cup with more then a couple grams lol. I am just finishing up 8 clones that I put into 3L pots which is less than 1gal so dont stress. They have been through 9 weeks of total growth, 7 of flower, one more week to go, my display picture is a picture I took today of them actually, just some bagseed Kush.

thanks :) so basically, from where i am today, i should be able to leave her as is untill harvest? Either way im going to have to but yeah. Someone elses opinion is always good reassurence

Ya man you will be fine. Some people pull off some nice weight with doing what you are doing, I of course have no idea what they exactly do but I see start pic and end pic and it can be pretty impressive (2-7oz). Seems a bit of some BS to me, but if I got an ounce i'd be happy.

A few signs to know when a plant is rootbound. Growth will slow down a LOT. The plant will only support what it's root system can handle. Also your pots/medium will dry out really quickly. A full watering every day kinda thing. Also you'll notice roots at the surface area of your soil. I haven't seen dope roots grow OUT of pots that weren't air pruned shortly. I left a plant in a 1.5 gallon smartpot to veg to see how long it'd take to become rootbound. Took around 9 to 10 weeks and even the top of the soil had roots poking out that were visible. Dug around to look and it was like a giant brilo pad of roots. It was enough to support the plant being heavily topped at every node 5x. So I had a super short dense bush that was about a foot tall but had 32 tops on it. Each one of those had 4 or 5 nodes. So it would support that much. Although it slowed considerably after the last topping. Damn thing exploded when t was thrown in a 5 gallon bucket.

so i can leave it how it is for atleast another 4 weeks surely? 4 weeks is the soonest i can get one including more soil. i do need to water often but i think thats coz my doil is quite barkey. Allows for a lot of air flow to roots and water to dry out faster. She looks good though growing well. Its on 12/12 though and roots grow a lot during dark periods? and theres alot of dark periods to come over 4 weeks so im a bit worried. Even if it does become rootbound, once it starts flowering can i trim SOME of the leaves to allow a bit of bud growth?

I personally wouldn't trim leaves but I'm one hell of a defoilhater. You could lst a bit since you're doing 12/12. I've played with lst and it pretty much tells your internodes to get their asses into gear and start branching. From what I've gathered from the lst crowd it can have great effects until stretching stops and around 2 weeks into flower. So more branches = more nodes which in the end means more budsites. If you're planning on leaving it in there throughout it's life cycle (it will surely be rootbound then) then it'll be a thirsty girl. A small water dish would help loads if you dont have humidity Probs.

cool as. Thanks for the help :) another question. Iv just Fimmed it. So it should slow down the growth a bit and focus more on branch growth? I will fully top it, maybe, when it has a few more sets of fan leaves.
