rat...its what's for dinner
Do you pre-kill or stun your rodents before feeding them?

I usually did with the ball's only because they are usually so shy, and generally non-aggressive. I had a buddy that had an albino that got a huge gash on its back from a rat biting it during constriction...sad on so many levels.

i usually just throw the rat in there. ive never had any problems with biting. when it comes to eating he has never had one get loose or anything. he always wins lol. i have ehard the horrors or what rats ahve done to snakes. especially when left in overnight. i never do that

When I lost a gopher snake that I had caught due to rat damage overnight that's when I decided that I would rather be out a mouse in case they didnt eat than my snakes...A fish and game guy that came in to our store took a rubbermaid shoe box and poked a hole in the top and would put the rodents in the box, put on the lid and then pump the CO2 in the hole...I just knocked them on the head with a stinger bat...

My Nile monitor on the other hand...we really liked to watch him with live prey...

Strange...most constrictors will actually sense the heartbeat and kill it...maybe all the inbreeding is finally becoming a detriment to the species.
