Renting a house - how do I prevent unexpected visits.

How do you rent a house and insure the landlord isnt going to come in one day un-announced and discover you?

I know we could write something in to the contract that states 72 hour notice or something, but I cant even trust this really. Plus I think it looks suspicious, although it shouldnt.... gimme some freakin privacy ya know?

Ive also considered changing the locks - but even in my apartment rental contract they claim they will break windows and doors down if I change the locks and then charge me for it.

putting this out to see if im missing anything, or if i already know my only options. Maybe some of you might have a system for finding the right house/landlord already lol

im in Aus.. but here man its like law to have 24hrs notice b4 peeps can come round, see here we rent through real estate agents..private rentals thru the landlord/owner are much less common, and yeh even that dude shouldnt be able to rock up in ur pad
 
By default, we get privacy. Ive never seen a contract that didnt nerf all the rights i could possibly have as part of the agreement though. lol

"Trespass by Landlord - The tenant has the right to peaceful enjoyment of the property, but this right can be modified by the lease. Unless the lease provides otherwise, the landlord does not have a right to enter the property without permission of the tenant except to demand payment of rent or to make emergency repairs. A tenant can sue a landlord for violating the tenant's rights."

This is such an easy an obvious answer i can't believe people continue to ask this question. A large breed dog that barks loudly whenever anyone knocks on the door or sets foot on your property will solve 100% of your privacy problems. I've lived in the same 2 bedroom apartment for 4 years and not once have i ever had a maintenance man or landlord set one foot in my space without me knowing about it or giving them permission. A big dog is also the best deterrent against burglars.
 
one renter technique is to keep your grow in your bedroom, put a lock on bedroom door
this is a bit different from changing the main door locks, a bedroom has a bit of extra expectation of privacy
this is where i have sensitive financial information, computer, etc.

if your medical then ask him if he is ok with it. i did. when i first moved in he said no drugs it even stated it in the rental agreement. i was not medical then. i got medical a year latter and then approched him with the ? HOW DO YOU FELL ABOUTMEDICALMARIJUANA. he said if you have it in paper im ok with it and he lets me grow outdoors during the summer and have to room in the house forgrowing. just rember this saying..... CLOSED MOUTHS DON'T GET FEED:mrgreen: good luck
 
Not a dog guy. Did not think of this.

.....Pretty much sounds like a winner though. Thanks. Expensive, probably annoying solution, but will probably be the most effective.

If you are really concerned then consider doing a small grow in some kind of stealth box with an autoflower strain or a lst plant with fluorescent lighting (cfl or t5).

My lease says my landlord can't make unexpected visits...and he doesn't...I'm a medical grower though...so yeah.

I have been putting locks on rooms in my rented houses for years..

saying this..
I have irreplaceable documents and valuables in this room and I do not permit anyone to go into this room.

So therefore I have installed a lock on to the bedroom door in order to secure my possessions.
