The 400w hps will be removed completely once I can get out of the ice age and into the 21st century and run just led's. Don't need the heat from the hps but for now think it will help with extra photons

My space available is 6x15 which would make a good 4'x8' flower room eventually with x8 qb96's, replicating or_gro's ppfd charts. Should have enough space left over for a veg/germ setup too.
Consider adding some far red strips/bars to complement the extra reds in the 96s and alone at beginning of lightsout, to turbocharge flowering photosynthesis

The rapidled/gromau pucks would be pretty expensive to adequately cover that space.
@Randomblame estimated there needs to be 1-2 pucks per 96 (the main problem with them is the diode layout, which would provide much better coverage if laid out in a strip rather than a square). Two 4’ growbright fr bars would do it. You might ask questions at “the far red” thread to get other options...

Hey guys, im about to order a pair of qb96 engines, i was wondering about how to drive them, ideally i'd like to set them up the same way HLG does with one of these as i'd like to hit that 360W-370W range that HLG's prebuilt does:

Im just wondering if theres more involved then simply hooking things up properly and turning it on? i have built lights before with meanwell drivers but i always opted for the A driver versions so i didnt have to mess around with dimmer switches, not only does this driver need a dimmer switch the data sheet also says its programmable, does that mean HLG tinkers with them in construction or is this just a plug and play operation and im over thinking things?

would using an HLG-320h-2800A instead also be able to achieve a 360w-370w range? or is it only possible with the invertronics unit?

Thanks, but the question is how much more..? will it operate at 370w? because HLG got third party ppfd measurements for the the qb96 370w light and i'd like to hit those numbers.

The 320h-b version pulls 340w at the wall (on 240v AC supply). I do like the "B" type because its easy to adjust the remote pot and simple to install.

However "A" version will drive harder, don't hold me to it but I'm guessing 360ish, tbone or random will know....

370w is pushing the straight 96 elite beyond the limit. I don’t see them saying it runs 370w here, https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/collections/all/products/qb96-elite-v2-quantum-board-engine
that would be almost 62 volts at the 6 amp absolute max.

I’ve had them up in the 340+ range, don’t know why you wiuld ever run them that high. Above that they start to flicker. The light gets really frickin hot way below 370w.
 
If we are saying 4 X QB96 V2 Elite in a 4x4 crushes it, I might as well pull the trigger. Currently have one QB96 on a 320H-54A awaiting my second and might order two more.

Hlg-320H-2800 would be the same as what we use on the elites pretty much.

This driver will not work with jus pot. They are not resistence dimming like meanwell. The only way to dim that or adjust anything with is by buying a programmer. Prg-mul2 is the part you need. Some models you can do it with a audio pot and resistor. But not that model. You need to hook it up to the programmer and computer. Download the software interface. And adjust it. That driver is set at 2800mA right now. And you cant change that without the programmer.

That dimmer will not work with this driver. They are not resistence dimming.

Got my 4 boards but it seems one of them shipped with the wrong heatsink. I've reached out to HLG to get it replaced.

The other three are setup and looking bright. I started with two initially and they ran pretty hot for my tent @ 125w. Hestsink too hot too touch. Ive added the third light and dimmed them down to 85w and now heatsinks just feel a but warm. Tent temps are a few deg lower too. Once I get all four going ill take some measurements to compare 2 vs 4 boards.

Size tent, please. Sounds like you have a small tent.

They’re supposed to get hot. Rated passive up to 200w/96. If too hot, put a fan on them to help move that hot air to exhaust fan.

I have 2 going in a 3x3 at 150w right now, had to turn off all fans, and turn on a radiator heater, to get above 68F.

Do you have driver(s) in tent now? if so, consider moving them out.

Be nice to know footprint size you are trying to cover, it affects how hot you have to run them for good, even coverage.

Sometimes you need more than 160-180w/96 to get good, even coverage. At 54v, 160w is less than half of rated max amps....

I've never used them. But I think most people are running them harder and just using a fan to blow air across the sinks. Not 100% sure on that though. Of course the softer you run them the better.
