@Randomblame I have this in my shopping cart. It's supposed to be a newer model.
Whaddaya think of it?

Hey, bro! Most of the cheap lux meters are unfortunately not accurate enough without calibration. They can be used to adjust height, uniformity and intensity level of the light but calculated μMol/s numbers will not be accurate in the most cases.
I've a cheap ebay lux meter that looks almost the same (the red one, wired sensor too, 12 bucks, e3ay) but when I compare the calculated numbers with PAR meter measurings its ~12% too low.

3k/F-stips have a divider of ~69 so 69000lx should be 1000μMol/s/m², right?!
I've used a good PAR meter(a friend has one) and have placed it 10" below the light and have set the intensity level to 1000μMol/s but as I've checked the lux meter readings at the same spot I got only 60.500lx. ~12% less...

IMO it's necessary to calibrate them against an accurate PAR meter or at least to compare them to know how much % it differs. FrankCannon has tested his 8 HL boards with a lux meter last week and compared readings to the μMol/s and lux numbers of a spectrometer and the lux meter was almost 18% too low.

Finally lux meters are still useful but without calibration we could also use a free lux meter app to figure out how to get the best even distribution.

Thank you @Randomblame. I grabbed it just to be able to adjust my lights for even coverage.Or as much as I can muster.I'll use it for the uses you stated.Height adjustment, uniformity and intensity.
I'll leave ųmol and par readings for you cats that are smarter than I. I don't want to be waisting light.

You seeing the pattern with these lights?
Nice work my man!
Good information & stella job dude!
Quick question if you dont mind? I eead awhile back that you were gonna give TechNaFlora a shot. Ive been using it for yrs & was wondering how youre making out with the Recipe For Success? What media too? Thank you!

I've been gradually adjusting my opinion of QB96 light and even the spectrum of lights in general. I'm coming to the conclusion that not only is it extremely difficult to tell differences caused by lights but that unless one did years of testing with clones, how it's even possible to quantify any numbers to the point that they really do have meaning rather than just feeling.

This shift has been brought about watching the same beans under the same lights do completely different stuff. I only use the most basic parameters, pebbles, hydro, GH and white lights. The decision really just comes down to spread, the QB's give a stronger concentrated cob like source but better, or go with spread. For me the large flat boards never appealed simply due to the physical properties, I like to move stuff around and rearrange everything, a lot during the grow.

However I won a Mars TS2000 light recently which is a quantum board style light, except the SMD's are not Samsung (I think) and the two mean well style drivers are not built with the same quality as mean well. The boards have both cold and warm SMD's as well as some red dotted through. Overall visual colour compared to QB96's is overall greener. However they do pump out the light and they do have a good efficiency. But the most interesting aspect is that this long version is 40" long and the LEDs are spread the entire length to they do a 4' x 2' perfectly.

I have to say that both the plants I grew under this light and are currently growing are completely different from each other, and both are different to the same bean under the QB's. So for me the question is one of spread.

So while spread is nice, the more concentrated light of the QB's I find to be more useful in creating an overall diffused spread that still penetrates a decent depth.

I agree, it isn't possible, it is all one big fucking guess. Yet people keep shelling out hundreds if not thousands of dollars on new 'V2' boards that has single digit increases in efficiency or a little extra spike in the red spectrum etc etc. Starts to feel like the same marketing ploy that was done when LED was first coming around.

It just got water. Magic dirt. Drains pretty well. Drys up fast tho
https://www.magic-dirt.com/products/magic-dirt-premium-potting-soil

this?

"Contains no peat moss, coir, perlite, vermiculite" well what the heck is in it then? it doesn't tell you the base or the fertilizers.

those are all the best media for growing cannabis. I mean I understand their stance on peat because it's not a sustainable resource but there should be some perlite in there at least. It looks like its relying on those sticks for drainage? not ideal in my opinion, I would mix that with 30%-50% perlite when you up-pot.

so its made of "anaerobically digested fibers". I mean just looking at it, it looks like it would need more drainage. But its made in a lab and i've never used it so i really have no idea.

only mention i found of it when i searched the forums is here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/protien-shakes-for-plant-food.993622/page-2#post-15021408

but he added perlite and happy frog to improve drainage.

The small town I come, from. Can't find perlite anywhere and I,dont have a credit card so Icsnt order any. The soil itself is almost mulch like. Drains pretty well. Dries pretty fast compared to just dirt

Exactly correct.

Can anyone tell me if this is healthy for 2weeks old?
If anyone tells you that looks anything other than completely normal for that age then do not pay it any serious attention, or else you will disappear down the rabbit hole and after a few years of wandering around lost and confused you'll even forget why you went down the rabbit hole in the first place.

Well it looks fine right now, but that really all I can say, but anything can happen especially in soil. I just wanted t make the point that unless there is something catastrophic, it's very difficult to tell much from a seedling. I still worry regularly about everything, I think it's the concern for the plant that is all that's generally needed, they like the psychic attention.
