i have yet to try the coco blend myself. this summer i will use mostly sunshine #4. when searching for a decent place to buy stay away from grow stores for ganja growers they charge to much especially if you need a dozen or so blocks. at my grow/hydro store the want almost double compared to a local greenhouse (mom and pop place) $40+at the grow store and i pay $23 for the same 3.8 cu ft compressed bales just a short drive into the country and also buy really nice compost there as well.
 
packaging anything soaking wet including soil or buds it will mold especially sitting in the sun. it was all thru the bag. there standards were very low for these pallets anyway. i have used lots over the yrs and never seen it so wet
 
i spent almost $2000 for 60 bales and i could have done the same area for $50 lol i thought i was going to get a better result from having no weeds but the simple farmer joe soil kicked its butt. live and learn never again
 
yea that does suck in quite a lot of bags i have seen wet ones but the wet came from delivery and getting tears in the bags. i have yet to see it come wet delivered. in spring i will unload several pallet loads for the family greenhouse.

are you experienced with micos? and have seen the mold on top of super soil with micos after it has ben sitting wet? if bx has micos (i think so) they will form a mold like substance inside your wet bags, if dry it will not form unless moisture is introduced. look up bagged supersoil there will be an inch or more on the top of a bag when opened, especially the good stuff like tga supersoil

i want to say if the bales have it in the bx the moisture will surely form mold oo the top. and if this s micos doing their thing it's not worth worrying about.
 
i dont want mold anywhere including inside my house or greenhouse from lazy practices from packaging or shipping or certain stores lazy storing practices. i know stores that keep them in a heated greenhouse but it doesnt matter when premiere packages and ships wet. many local growers i know had problems with there mix last yr specifically the bx and rust.. judging by premier horticultures response no wonder.

Like you. I too have unloaded many pallets of Premier products, Sunshine products etc. and what you said is exactly the case. Once in a while a few bags get wet during transportation.
Nobody, regardless of brand, are going to package extra water into their product because more weight equals more cost in shipping.
 
It could be from storing or shipping them wide open in storms but being lazy and packaging it wet wouldnt surprise me. It doesnt matter i wont be buying there soils after that email lol i also will save alot of $$ and rust problems

And if something like that happened to me, I wouldn't be buying either. One question, are you growing in an outdoor plot or in a greenhouse. If you are using native soils in a greenhouse, be careful as there is a good chance of damping off. I lost an entire crop many years back for that very same reason. Like yourself, once bitten twice shy.
 
i use the 3.8 cu.ft. bales of growing mix. i have used promix, sunshine mix, fafards growing mix and others. i have had bales that were bone dry, wet, and partially frozen and very good results from all of them. i use about 6 bales a year at 49 bucks a bale. i am a little jealous that others are paying much less, but for now my option is 49 a bale and i pay it.

i used fox farms line up and start with just the big bloom at around the start of week 3. i also use MagiCal which has really helped with the fox farm nutes.

i did have a couple of young plants with some minor rust spots, but it has not progressed any further since adding a small amout of MagiCal about 2 weeks ago.
 
These rust spots some of you are referring to, I keep getting them when plants are young...then they always outgrow the problem.

And I haven't been able to find the source of the issue. Could peat be the problem?. This thread is from last November:

And this Malawi, never again...strain takes up twice the space and requires twice the time. Great strain for outdoor grows in Florida, not so great indoors unless you're a hobby grower looking for a sativa holy grail.

i grow indoors, outdoors and in a greenhouse. i noticed the problem with the bx only. the plants that were in the pro mix hp didnt have nearly as much trouble. i didnt use native soils in the g.house last yr but i was planning it this yr along with a top layer of rocks or good packaged soil to stop any damping off. thanks for tip.

the disease comes on hard when flowering triggers and although like they said in email it wont kill the plants it sure reduces yield and causes major problems, not something i take lightly like them. who want veggies or medical mj with diseases. the cherry is it will continue the next yr. i tried calmag no luck but hitting them hard with nitrogen helped the plants major.
 
sunbiz those spots your referring to in your pics look like straight nute necrosis (spl?) the bottom leaves will get them sometimes with a hot soil mix for the first few days after transplant. the plant almost always grows out of it and I have not seen big concerns from it. also I usually get it if I transplant from seed starter (light mix) soil to something like fax farms of.

Damn you're good, it's the peat pellets I've been using to pop beans as well as cloning into. I have suspected this for a while, TY for confirming.
 
I used pro mix in a commercial grow. I use sunshine #4 at home. The mixes are very similar. We had some problems with pro mix, hell one truckload came in hot... 3000 ppm run off, killed a bunch of plants. I've never had problems with sunshine. I think their quality control must be better. But it could also be sample size... since I've only used 100s of bales of sunshine in my time growing at home and 1000s of pro mix at the commercial, so there's a lot more room to get messed up bales of pro mix.

no, I'm sure the products are not exactly the same but pretty certain the two companies tried to duplicate each others.
I worked for a family owned nursery of and on for 15some year and having used both they both work well. sure you will ways get a bad bag, one that has been opened or got wet from holes but in all honesty in over a 1000+ bags I have opened the consistency is always on. dealing with commercial amounts a bad bag will slip by now and then but this is quality "base" soil. cheap an you will have to amend heavy to form a good cannabis growing soil, unless you use bottles which works really well with this soil as well.

i agree that is kinda my story had great luck other yrs employees change sometimes companies get behind and cut corners. there storing and shipping the product it isnt my job i expect gd soil i am just the guy paying for it so in the same boat we have alternatives.

ya not all bales are equal they ship tons of it at different dates. i am sure different storing sites shipping routes so nature can downpour huge and different digging sites. in the winter or spring density of stuff changes as well so many variables. i know to be more skeptical when buying it and cut it open in the truck :d if it sucks have them unload it lol the smell of gd fresh properly done promix is noticeable :weed:
 
i do remember some bales having a split around the seem and so much rain in the spring but they were so fresh at the store. so once again it makes me think shitty packaging job at the plant, machines fuk up as well. then in shipping they get soaked from rain traveling on hwy or storage sites. the truck driver just uses a lift to lift the pallet not each bale. csi sucks lol i thought it was strain related all along but some strains are stronger is all.

I have FOUGHT powdery mildew for the past 2 months basically on my sativa plants. I am using Pro Mix. 3 different kinds. Problems with all.
