Poutine - Why Canadians? Why?

Frozen fries, cheese (curds if your rich) and beef gravy off the shelf got me through college, and to all the Americans saying this is gross. Coming from a country who bathes everything in gravy (including fruit) and live off fries I would think a bit more praise for this stroke of genius is in line for Canada. You only wish you invented this masterpiece of artery clogging art on a dish, which we need to survive up here in the cold lol.

We have a local cafe here with about 12 different kinds of poutines ranging from chillie poutines, the works, perogie poutine, pizza poutine etc.. all these weird poutines which is awesome when you get the munchies.

We take our poutine so seriously I know I get offended when it's even pronouced wrong in public, especially because im french and the only way to pronouce it is "Pou-ti-ne" theres a link between the "ti" and "ne" it's gotta flow. It's not "poo-tine" or "poo-tin" it's not a Russian dictator. lol

Now everyone run to your stores and combine the magical combination of canadian pride lol:lol:

Sorry to mislead you JO. I was using this thread to poke fun at the Canadian RIU members. I apologize if you mistook my meaning. If it were offered to me then I would most definitely try it. Hell, if I can eat sheep intestines a little cheese curd can't hurt me. ;)
No apology necessary. I was not offended.

If I mistook your meaning, then so did everyone who agreed with you; as well as the Canadians who defended their dish.

Claiming it was all a joke after someone calls you on it is weak.

Don't bother with Carne. We all know he's soft and fluffy.... Like a baked potato us ladies can't eat... It's all fine.

I assumed it was a joke because I seriously couldn't think of anything in particular to dislike about the dish. *shrugs*

I've had it in canada a couple times. I was not impressed. It was barely edible. It sounds like a good idea because all the components are good. It seems crazy that it is EVERYWHERE in canada, yet I have never once seen it in the states. If it's really so damn good why doesn't it spread out of canada?

Anybody familiar with another proud Canadian food called the beaver tail? Its basically a fried dough pastry with all sorts of wonderful different toppings. It is the size and shape of a beaver tail, hence the name. You cannot be Canadian if you have never had the opportunity to try such a delicious pastry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fried_dough:bigjoint:

Very much looking forward to trying it later on in the year :) After a night at the pub ent nothing better than chips cheese and gravy, so i can only imagine it is gonna be fairly tasty :) Would it be wrong of me to put some hummus on there as well though? Hummus is a rather epic addition to chips :)
