Perlite

Will adding perlite to fox farm ocean forest give me bigger buds? What can I add or do to get bigger buds? 600hps, averaging about 1.5-2 zips a plant.

I'm in the same boat as you, my friend. I'm thinking I need to step up to scrog or hempy buckets or dwc or something to get bigger yields.

Scroggin and topping will probably help you out a bit with pushing the yield to the limits. You want fat wide lateral branches that you can weave into the trellising or screen. If you pull them out wide and even enough it will give you multiple vertical kolas on lateral branches. They will even grow strong up and orient their budding towards the light instead of upwards the side of the stem if they are healthy and big enough.

lmao. No. perlite is inert. It doesn't add any nutrients to your plants. Each perlite pebble can absorb three times its weight of water and it releases it very well, but really more then anything it just thins out your soil and allows it to drain better. You don't need to add perlite into Fox Farm, but I do so my potting mix goes further.

I'm not sure if this is true, but I head both Vermiculite and Perlite are harmful when used in soil of plants smoked or otherwise consumed. Has anyone else heard this? I know people use this shit on the daily, but I heard it from an old wise Hippie who was frankly surprised that its still for sale..... ?

Im using Perlite on my grow atm, makes getting the watering right a-lot easier imo, seems to provide more even distribution of the water and avoids soggy patch's (which was a problem with the first plant i grew).
But 'vindicated' is right, perlite is nothing but natural glass and contains no nutrients, its inert.

hmm...I use a 400 and average 3 or so per plant...so are you overfeeding perhaps...trying to get the biggest buds, sometimes makes them smaller.

Perlite is just volcano glass that happens to pop like popcorn if you get it hot enough...just like vermiculite, but vermiculite is expanded mica...neither are harmful, and if you don't mind a rock taste I am sure you could eat them with little harm...no more so than eating sand or dirt...which is to say it is not recommended, but won't hurtcha.

Try training the plant more during veg, so you have more equal tops..then flower...it sometimes takes a little longer in veg, but the more time you spend in veg, the more end product you get in flower...so...Like ok, I can veg a plant for around 3-4 weeks and get 2, 2.5 oz..but if I veg for 6-8 weeks with training i can get around 6 oz...but I would rather have 2 smaller 3 oz plants...which is what I do...just train them til they have more tops...and nute less

I know you're laughing your ass off, but I was thinking by adding more perlite it would help the water to drain causing the pots to dry out quicker, thus getting more feedings during a grow cycle.

Maybe I should have worded my question a little differently but anyone knows perlite isn't a nutrient.

I normally top once during veg, then later I supercrop. It would be hard for me to do a scrog (i'm thinking) because I normally grow 3 different strains at once and they're at different stages of flowering.

No.

a. Switch to higher yielding strains.
b. Top the plants, train them, and/or use a trellis/SCROG to ensure that every horizontal square foot of your growing space is filled with flowering tops. This is key.
c. Veg longer.

That would only help if feedings are the limiting factor in your grow.

In other words, only if you're not feeding your plants enough. If that were the case, you could just feed them more often or in a more concentrated way to fix the problem.

With the constant stupidity posted on this board, I wouldnt make that assumption!
