Perlite?

You add perlite to the soil so the soil will retain water better. Perlite alone will cause your plant to keep falling over as it will have no root support.

mix it with your soil. have about 15% perlite

like seosham said, there would be no root network so it wouldn't stand up.

ive seen soil mixes at 60% perlite
can i mix that much in?
or even 50%

to be honest, i don't really know.

i can't really see any benefit in that, nor problems really. i just followed a guide and everything is a ok, so that's what i do.

absolutely you can just grow in perlite.

Try the hempy bucket idea...thats my next project and looks like it will be fun..

100% perlite will be fine!:weed:

huh....really?

i would never of thought it possible.

you learn something new everyday, sorry for my previous posts.

i add lots of perlite and vermiculte... loosens the soil, easier for roots and also better drainage and o2 to the roots.

60% soil 40% perlite is perfect.
this is what i use(no vermiculite).
and neutral ph soil.none of this miracle gro shit.
just 100% scotts top soil.

I dont like vermiculite for soil. holds too much water. Even at a 50/50 mix with perilite for a hempy it keeps it way too wet.

Perlite for soil? awesome! really can't have too much. Keeps the roots nice and airy. (a little sphagnum moss works nice too, just watch the pH)

Straight perlite? Now you are talking hydro. Totally different ball of wax.

yes this is the best method but if you use scotts top soil it has sphagnum moss added already.so its just perlite reqd and the ph of scotts soil mixed with 50% perlite has a ph of 7.0(after a neutral ph water run through).
just put the mixed medium in its pot on a plate.do a run through and test the ph of the water that gathers in the plate after its ran through the medium.
