the viparspectra uses all 5 watt led its true watt and a great spectrum . I never used it just did about 5 hours at work hours paid lol of research on them all great reviews .
my 1200w king has double chipped 10w diodes. it also draws 40w less than the viparspectra 600w but is also much brighter. diode coverage angles about the same for both lights. got 3 plants under one and 2 plants under the other with about 6in. overlap and the plants are all the same size, bushy, and green as fuck!

I know when I bought my first led I repaired them more than run them. Every cycle one had some LEDs fail. Here is an alleged 300w unit. The aluminum heatsink wasn't even touching the LED panel. Notice the white heatsink compound? It didn't even touch. I ran 5 units at one time. They worked. But not very efficient. ymmv

Proof in the pudding :

Mars Hydro - 600

ViparSpectra 600

I have ran Mars 300s , 600 and 900 .... Stayed with 600 ( better result ).
It pulled 278 @ wall .

The VIPARSPECTRA 600 has been the last one bought and will be a keeper.
It has a better blue spectrum that makes these plants explode. It is a nicer build quality
AND can be daisy chained together.

I even grew plants BETTER than most LED panels on CFL !
12 CFL with hood - 6500k and 2700k mix
This setup has given me excellent bud ( personal use ) and STILL USE IT.

LEDS make big claims , mostly bullshit . Stick with what growers " are using " not what is on paper. There good entry level panels like i mentioned. Maybe get your money back , try CFL or T5 for now and get a little more money together for something with grows under its belt.

My 2¢ ..... I'm really trying to help
Peace

i have a bunch of big cfls I've used for growing my seedlings for the garden. they work good but got to keep em' close and move often. thats why i bought the leds. plus would need a army of them to cover 5 plants in my 4 by 5. how many you use for that plant in the pic.? I've got 3 plants under my 600w also.

How do I go about setting up DIY lights and what types of good quality custom ones would you recommend?
i'm a T5 closet growers so can't answer your question. if I was growing in a space that large I would use a 630 watt CMH or a 600 watt HPS/MH combo

The way I see it is like this. You can buy a cheap light, they all work. Some better than others, obviously. Try the cheap one and hone your skills before dumping money into a hobby you may or may not be good at. I bought my Meizhi 900 watt light on Amazon and its the typical "blurple" if I'm not mistaken. 470 watts at the plug and works fine for what I'm wanting to do, which is growing 3 to 4 plants at a time.

And if you find that your light is lacking a little, just add a few cfl in there and that should do just fine.

Thanks for the inputs people. I am hoping this light will do me some good. I was hoping to get a great quality light but I only have $100-150 to work with and I probably couldn't get anything close to 1000W (or at least running around 300-400 true watts) for my budget.
Yes there are better lights and shittier, bottom line is - you own that one and it will grow plants. Put 1-2 plants under it and rock that shit bro! While they grow do some research and build your budget. Best of luck , hope u get a great grow !

Thanks for all this information people. As soon as I get my light I'll put pics up and examine it thoroughly and if I notice anything wrong with it, I will be sending it back. :D

i would get the meizhi 1200.... 289 bucks I personally own works great . or the vipar spectra 1200w 400 bucks I researched for many hours looks solid . the mars hydro . 300 and 600 watt units do not have uv . the green mars hydro reflector units the led are not as bright according to mars hydro product support. the mars 2 unit has uv all 5 watt led its the same as the top models but with out all the bells and whistles . but it costs 560 each unit unless you buy 6 units they will drop price to 460 each unit . meizhi is having issues getting more stock it brings warranty concerns in mind .

notice in the picture . the apolo is a lot more bright . the apollo has 3 watt led chips old led tech but still works . today we use 5 watt and cob new and improved .. the new light notice its very dim compared to the apollo look like 1 watt led . not ripping on you this is what i see at least . all running off 1 chip .

is that the king plus? i have the 1200w and i love it! i also have a viper spectra 600w that actually pulls more watts from the wall than the king but the king is much brighter. i think its the 10w double chipped leds that king uses makes the difference.
